Lincoln Riley interviews for North Texas job
Eagle-96 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Urban Meyer also denied Mac was a candidate the day we hired him. So could be coach speak and also could have been asked to deny by OU, UNT or both.- 67 replies

Sorry I mistyped Iowa instead of Florida. No reason to be a jerk about it.

I remember Harbaugh and Fisher in 2006 were names of coaches in the final mix before Dodge was hired. For the life of me I can't remember the names thrown around in 2010, let alone the finalists. I do remember that Mac was not a name that was in discussion much here on the board or in the media until right before it happened. I just remember that a new candidate was there and then RV and co flew to Iowa and he was hired in sort of a whirlwind. Who were the finalists in 2010?
-
Yep, RV was extended too. His contract runs through February 2018. Only 28 more months to go!

Fine. All of your points are well taken. However, most fans that were displeased with the results on the field tried to voice their displeasure with the pen and keyboard only to find out that 1. Letters were forwarded to the target of their displeasure without their knowledge. If this was done at the direction of RV then it is at best sad and desperate and at worst underhanded. 2. RV proceeded to publicly disparage those who dared challenge him. When the pen and keyboard are taken away then the next logical tool for the fans, and for any consumer of a product or service, is to speak with their pocketbook(donations, ticket purchases, etc...). It is not taking our ball and going home. It is saying enough is enough. We don't like the product you have produced so it is time for you to go. What would you have us do? Pull back on our donations to other areas of the school? Let's all punish the business school for the failings of the athletic department. How do you think the Texas AD was forced out? $$$$$$$$$$$

How Much Time Do We Give The New Coach To Get Us Bowl Eligible
Eagle-96 replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
Wow. A bunch of you think we should easily win 6+ games next year. I just don't see any game as easily winnable and I never will again after the Portland state game. Things to keep in mind: 1. We will have a new coaching staff running new schemes that are most likely going to be vastly different. Players are going to have to learn new playbooks and new in-game signals. The staff will have spring and summer practice to install an offense that is 180 degrees from what we did under Mac. 2. The new staff will only have about 2 months to recruit the players they need/want to run their systems. This puts us at a huge disadvantage for getting quality recruits.A lot of guys will already be off the board so we will have to flip players from other programs to get quality. 3. We have only had 1 winning season in the past 11 and 4 in the last 21. I have a hard time believing a coach is just gonna waltz in here and win 6. I hope he proves me wrong but I think we have to prepare ourselves for a 3-4 win season. -

Yeah but just to make sure we turned the iron off before we left the house. He's OCD that way. -

29 point dogs to a conference opponent in the current AD's 15th year

50% chance of showers and thunderstorms for the game on Saturday could keep scoring down. -
We should have a new coach on board within the next 3-4 weeks. He will have a short window to recruit high school kids(and an even shorter time to recruit JUCO mid terms) compared to other staffs with returning coaches. Hopefully he will keep a holdover from Macs staff to keep ties with the current talent. Maybe Perry and/or Patrick. The question is, how much of a leash do we give a coach that we could be paying in the $900K to $1.5 million range to get us to 6 wins and bowl eligibility? This is gonna be a tough process no matter who we bring in. Hell, I think Saban and Meyer would have a hard time. Do we accept 3-4 wins next year followed up by 5-6 in year two? What if we have a Chad Morris type season next year(SMU's only realistic win chance left is Tulane so they could go 2-10). My thought is that it is gonna take at least 2-3 years to get to a respectable level. What are our expectations?

You are a moderator of a fan board for teams that have been repeatedly and forcefully nut kicked for decades. You should be numb, hopeless and without feelings at this point. BTW: thanks for the info you and others with knowledge have provided thus far. -

I've already threatened to kidnap his loved ones and that didn't work so I'm at a loss here on how to escalate the situation. -

just find it hard to believe on three points. 1. That there is nothing anywhere online regarding either of them getting offered head coaching jobs at P5 schools in this day and age. 2. That either of them would turn down P5 head coaching jobs. 3. That Vito or any other journalist would include them on lists for UNT coaching candidates after they turned down vastly better jobs just last season. -

When he got here I really thought he would be one of the all-time greats when all was said and done. I think he got in the dog house a couple of times with Mac and he had some fumbling issues. Combine that with JW being here and it sent him to the bench. He could be electric at times and then make you say huh? at times(and not in a good way).

Is this more of a money-whip scenario that we would have to pay to get the guy we really want or more of a realistic dollar figure you have heard tossed around.

Coaching Search Ticker-North Texas Candidates
Eagle-96 replied to dml7007's topic in Mean Green Football
Cerebus, We have your (insert loved ones name here) and are holding him/her hostage. We do not wish to hurt him/her but will do what we have to. Please give us the name(s) of said coach(es) that have interviewed and we will release (loved ones name) unharmed. We are serious. It will only take a few names. -

How is he less qualified? Because he doesn't have a dad that is the head coach at a P5 school that hired him? Briles has had one year experience as an OC. I would say that Applewhite is more qualified in that he has coached at multiple schools under multiple coaches including Nick Saban, Todd Graham, and Mack Brown. Applewhite has also spent 6 seasons as an offensive coordinator. -

What P5 head coaching jobs were they offered? I have read of P5 OC job rumors and interview rumors for G5 jobs. I have not seen where they turned down P5 head coaching job offers. -
Mac was hired at the end of November. Look for the same timeframe this time around. Unless we choose a coach on the staff of a playoff team he will be available by end of the regular season
