Winning football games on a consistent basis is the greatest cheerleader of all time.

He absolutely did his research. Scott gave tidbits of the interview on his Twitter account. Sidway specifically called RV out on a statement regarding how basketball attendance as a whole had decreased in the NCAA and that the attendance drop under Benford was on par when the exact opposite was true regarding NCAA BBall attendance. RV was busted.

You could be right but I am never in the camp that believes things like these are not intentional and calculated. Leaks like these happen by people with something to gain.

Two possibilities: 1. RV "casually" tells someone in the department in "confidence" or "accidentally" leaves the information on a table in the AC(oops) with the intention of it getting leaked. He does this to let the public know we are going after good candidates. 2. Riley "casually" tells a friend who then leaks the info so that OU knows he is wanted in an attempt to get a nice raise. Either way it was definitely intentional and done for personal gain.

Hayden left disillusioned about our station in life much like many coaches have here. Once he knew we were never getting in the SWC if SMU had anything to say about it(which they did) he was gone gone gone.

This is what I remember as well. The coaching record was reason for pause but then everyone looked at his ability to get a program like Iowa State to bowl games and ignored the record. But then the domestic abuse issues came to light and some did not want to be associated with that. That too was overlooked. Fast forward a few years and domestic violence in football has come to the forefront with Rice, Hardy, Peterson, etc... I am not sure hiring Mac would pass muster in today's environment.

I prefer it this way. Sure we all want as much information as possible. It's great to debate the candidates and talk about who we want/need. The reality is that the candidates more than likely are demanding that we be discreet so as not to cause harm to their current teams in regards to recruiting, coaching, fan reaction, etc... I don't want the the athletic department to cause ANY candidate to shy away due to "leaks". Now if reporters, bloggers, etc... know information and report it, that's a different story. Reporters should not be beholden to the confidentiality wishes of UNT or anyone else. This is an exciting time. We will all know in a couple of weeks and we will get to debate the decision. We will get to talk about who he will hire for the staff. We will get to talk about recruits and then BAM Spring ball is here and we get to see the new product on the field. Hope springs eternal.

Scott tweeted a week ago that it was taking a while to transcribe the full 2 hour interview. I also think he is tied up with his ongoing coverage of FC Dallas in the MLS playoffs.

Most initial interviews/indications of interest are done over the phone. Next step is face to face interview. We are paying too much money to have it over Facetime. We are also in no position to make demands of candidates regarding time and travel when they are still employed by someone else. We are at the mercy of the AD at the candidates school. If Lincoln Reilly/Mike Norvell says "Hey the phone interview was great. I'd like to formally interview for the job. I only have 1-2 hours due to my current job. Can you come up to Norman/ Phoenix?" We should be on the next flight. Period. We're not begging anyone. It's not about pride. We are doing what everyone does in this situation.

It will probably only take the 4 playoff teams out of the mix for us but I doubt we are looking at the staffs of Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Iowa, Oklahoma State. This could put a wrench into Lincoln Reilly plans as OU still has a shot at making the 4. Teams will generally release assistant coaches to their new teams if they are in a regular bowl game. Keep in mind that the coaches we are interviewing are still working, gameplanning, recruiting, coaching, etc... at their current jobs. These guys probably have been granted only a limited amount of time to interview and talk to UNT. It just isn't feasible(and maybe not allowed by the their current head coach) to take additional time to fly or drive to Denton. We may only have an hour or two with these guys and need to make any concessions we need to get the best possible candidates.

If we go down the OC or assistant head coach path from a P5 school then it's: Reilly Briles Norvell Cumbie Meacham We also have to realize that RV is telling the candidates exactly what HE wants them to hear regarding how difficult the situation is/will be here at UNT. He may be able to sell him on how "easy" it will be to win here like he most likely did with Dodge and Mac. It won't take them long to figure out the difficulties and get disillusioned though. I hope the new coaching prospects do their due diligence and know what they are getting into.

Congrats on a very big win. Maybe the biggest win in program history. With as bad as the women's team has been this is akin to the new football coach going to Gainesville and beating Florida next year.

There is only one type of funk that can solve our problems. And that's the P-Funk.

He's resigning due to his CANCER. pretty sure he won't be coaching anywhere. Not sure his situation is LOL worthy.
