Fritz' 2nd Year FBS Triple Option In The GoDaddy Bowl
Eagle-96 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Interesting that Georgia Southern produced their highest point total in the one game Fritz didn't coach. Just sayin'. Look, I think Fritz is a terrific coach who has won everywhere he has been. He would have been a great choice to coach here if he was hired. We simply don't know who turned who down and most likely never will. He is not our coach and no amount of posts about triple option football, Georgia Southern Bowl wins, and champion high school offenses will make it so. Let's all move on and concentrate on who IS here and how he can turn UNT into a destination for high school athletes.- 116 replies

"See you later McNeese State" Seeing a sea of Green on Bourbon Street. Sticking around to see us come from down 11 points with 7 minutes to play to beat Oregon State after 3/4 of the crowd left early in the 4th quarter in 1995. Mills to Redwine on the fade.

That was the first thing to pop into my head when Scott had the contract detail scoop before Vito. I truly hope that is not the case and will give the benefit of the doubt to Sidway. Although without the transcript of the interview as promised it's hard for us to surmise anything else. If Sidway posts the interview then it is probably a matter of him getting the FOI request in before Vito. THAT, I can live with. If it is as you think then what a crappy thing to do by RV and what a horrible position to be put in for Scott. But, that would probably be a good lesson to learn for his future career.

$725,000 base + $45,000 Radio/TV + $45,000 retention bonus $815,000 per year is the true figure and it could go to to $955,000 with a 10 win season, and a division title. Not a bad contract.

No question Littrell et al have a lot of work to do, but the fact is that he is doing the little, simple things that Mac didn't. Spending an hour at a high school shootin' shit with a high school coach can go a LONG way in improving our image. It shows them that we have enough respect to actually visit them and show them we are serious. Inviting staffs to practice to see how we do things make them feel important. High school coaches want to be wooed and Littrell is doing that.- 63 replies

Details have been updated in the original article: $5K academic bonus for GPAs and APR. $45K retention bonus for every year he stays at UNT. $45K for Radio/TV Buyout is $1.1 Million if fired before 01/31/2018

My guess is Scott still has alot of legalese to dig through in the contract.
-
The bigger story here is. Did Sidway scoop Vito AGAIN? Here are the details http://ntdaily.com/new-head-football-coach-littrells-contract-worth-3-625-million-over-five-years/
-
Speaking more to determining the contract details of each. If Fritz took less money to coach at Tulane then we paid Littrell then coaching in a perceived better conference meant more to Fritz. If not, then it's about the money.

That would be a fun experiment.

Mac simply had NO incentive. He wasn't coaching for his next gig. He wasn't worried about his financial future. He was already a god in Iowa. If I don't recruit well then eff it. Still got a whip-ass bank account and pension and I never have to buy my own drinks in Ames. Littrell has incentive that Mac never did.- 63 replies

I am curious to know the details around Fritz and UNT. 1. Did UNT reach out and Fritz wasn't interested? If that's the case then why wasn't he interested? a. UNT didn't offer enough money for him and/or his assistants. We will see once the FOI requests are granted. b. Fritz was interested in a higher rung on the ladder like coaching in the AAC instead of CUSA. Can't blame Fritz if this is the case. 2. Did UNT reach out to Fritz and we turned him down after the interview? If this is the case then we will see if this was a wise decision in 2-3 years.

It will be interesting indeed. Kids just don't hold UNT in high regard right now and haven't for some time. One way into their minds is through their coaches. Texas high school coaches have big egos and they need to be stroked. Littrell is out there pressing the flesh with the guys that can influence decisions. I realize that kids are going to choose colleges based on their own criteria(playing time, TV time, winning, education quality). One of the factors is the opinion of the high school coach and some coaches have considerable sway over where these kids end up. For some of these kids their high school coach is one of the main male influences in their life and they value their opinion. I've seen statements that Mac simply stopped contact with high schools. Just stopped coming around. Stopped calling. High school coaches remember that. Recruiting to UNT needs ALL the help it can get and I like the fact that Littrell is out there letting coaches know who he is and what UNT is about. Will this help our classes? Time will tell.- 63 replies

61% of high schools nationwide run a variation of the spread. The next closest offense is the Wing T which is run by 11%. The fact remains that most high school kids are familiar with the spread in some form. There are more players that run a variation of the spread in high school making the transition easier to running it in college. i.e( we have more players to choose from now that we run the spread). These kids play football at the high schools they do because of the town they live in. They don't have a choice in what their coach runs. Ask them and they will tell you that they WANT to play in a spread offense so that they blow up their stats and get the hot chicks that dig them stats man.- 63 replies

2016 Wins 1-2 Might be the reality we are looking at. Rebuilding takes TIME. We have 2 positions that are above average(RB, DB) and that's from a 1-11 team. SMU and BC are are real opportunities next season. 3-4 If we can get this many then Coach Littrell has earned his paycheck considering the dearth of talent available(no degree of green tint on your glasses makes that statement untrue) and short recruiting season. 5-6 This would be a minor miracle considering we are installing a radically different offense and a(hopefully) radically different defense with players recruited to play something completely different. A 5th year QB could make this possible. Just ask La Tech. 7-8 Littrell would get CUSA Coach of the Year honors. 9-10 Give this guy a lifetime contract(just kidding RV.) 11 + PCP is a hell of a drug.

Good for them, Its all about doing what you can with the budget you have. Hope it works out.

My expectation for next year is to be competitive in the games we play which is something we didn't do this year. 4-5 wins would be a tremendous turnaround. We looked overmatched every time we stepped on the field.I overpredict every season because of my eternal hope that "if everything goes just right then X will happen." I can't do that anymore. We have to be realistic with what we have back and what we know we will have next year(as of right now) We are an absolute train wreck at QB and in the absence of a 5th year transfer or 4-star freshman then we will be in serious trouble again next year. Our O-line was average at best and we lose Banogu to graduation. At WR we lose one of the most productive WR's in UNT history. Other than that we have "potential". One bright spot is RB where we should be strong again with Wilson and Ivery. Add to that the fact that the offense is changing 180 degrees from the Buick. On defense our lone bright-spot is the defensive backfield with Gray, McClain, Buyers, Brooks, and Preston back. I actually feel really good about what this group can do with a competent DC. We have 2 mid-term JUCOs that should be able to contribute midway through next season. I will be thrilled if Littrell can pull off a 6 win season as it would be a minor miracle. Ask Justin Fuente and Todd Monken how easy it was to take their terrible teams over. The point is that it might take until year 3 until we see the fruits.
