MGB: Kirby taking leave of absence, UNT trying Buyers at WR
Eagle-96 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Buyers also has the innate ability to avoid blockers and sniff out the receiver on the bubble screens. Go back and look at his tape. One of his best traits is his elusiveness defending the bubble. That will serve him well in the slot when he is trying to avoid tacklers. Could be VERY interesting. Littrell is showing that he will do whatever it takes to get his best players on the field. I have a feeling we won't be "playing to keep it close" next year. -
MGB: Kirby taking leave of absence, UNT trying Buyers at WR

Buyers at WR. Is it that we will have a lot of new depth at DB or that Buyers will really give us a weapon on offense. Not sure what to think about this. So sad for Kirby. A lot to handle at such a young age. Family comes first. -
The sign will get attention only when it donates more money. I thought this was understood already. M'fin sign.

Did English play. If so, how did he look out there?

Confused ... has spring ball started?
Eagle-96 replied to NorthTexan95's topic in Mean Green Football
Wow, can't get a signal to be able to liveblog practices. If we only had a LAN provider we could contact to help us get service out there at the practice field. Oh well. -
Sooooooo any chance RV was steering while Riley worked the pedals? Wait, no no no it was Riley hiring the coaches while RV drank Grey Goose and showed people where his back needed patting. I sure miss the days of Craig Helwig and nobody even pretending they cared. Thems were the good old days.

Promotion ideas for next year's men's basketball games

#Hit13 #Hitafreethrowanyfreethrowpleasebutseriouslyjusthitadamnfreethrow 2016-2017 UNT Basketball - We Put The M in Mediocre! You can't spell nut-kick without UNT! Vision -
I drove by this weekend and thought the very same thing. It's the little things that we should have been doing a LONG time ago that will help our program.

No question the bold sleeper is Rip Van Winkle. 20 year nap! I don't think the competition is even close.

1. Vito is correct that we will have 91% of our scoring back. We will also have everyone back from one of the worst defensive teams in recent memory. It doesn't matter if you score 90 points if the other team scores 100. 2. IT CAN GET WORSE Vito. Do not tempt the fates. The fates have us on speed dial. 3. Tomorrow's edition on Why UNT Will Be Worse will be a two word article and both words will be capitalized.

Pro-tip: RV, The Board of Regents, Lee, Neal, the 17? They DO NOT CARE what you or any of us think. We DO NOT COUNT. RV stays in budget and that is ALL that matters. I'll say it again. Staying in budget is all that matters. The admin at UNT hasn't cared since Theron Fouts was here. They have been running off anyone who did care for decades. If they cared then we would have had a new football stadium decades ago. We would have had baseball years ago. We would have had a completed center tennis court. We would have done WHATEVER it took to get into the SWC. The UNT administration tolerates athletics. Noting more. They allow it to exist as opposed to using it to its fullest potential as the window to the university. Did I mention that staying in budget is all that matters?

MGB: Benford says he will be back, confident in future
Eagle-96 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I concur. Aston was, to me, a perfect storm. Goestenkors had success at UT but only won 1 tournament game in five years there. Unfortunately Goestenkors followed a legend and UT expected Final Fours. UT knew what Aston could do as she was a long-time assistant. They knew if she could win 15 games ay UNT then she could be successful at UT. They ponied up the cash and Aston was gone. -
MGB: Benford says he will be back, confident in future

This is what we should be shooting for in the revenue sports. We hire the right kinds of coaches, they are successful, they take higher profile jobs. We are not P5 and cannot expect to compete with the big boys to keep the coaches that succeed. In football, if Littrell wins 22 games in the next 3 years(say 5, 7, 10) he will be gone and then we will have to hire the right replacement ala Boise State thus starting the cycle again. JJ was successful and moved on the greener pastures we just didn't make the right replacement decision. -

Just think of all of the fans and money that have walked away without saying a word. Remember that for every person that publicly complains, 26 others remain silent and just go away. The problem goes beyond just wins and losses. The very survival of UNT athletics is at stake and the guy driving the train is asleep at the wheel. I guess like Clayton Williams says, "We should all just lay back and enjoy it". -
Rick Villarreal lies about basketball accountability
Eagle-96 replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Did anyone seriously think that RV would fire Benford? If you listened closely to the last Barbershop podcast RV was on, you heard all you needed to know regarding Benford coming back. RV was unwilling to commit to any benchmarks for Benford. He has hemmed and hawed about committing and now we have AT LEAST one more season of Benny and the Nets. RV is pushing ALL of his chips to the middle of the table and praying that Beneford suddenly learns how to coach in year 5. He is betting the farm that Benford will duplicate what JJ did in year 6. The difference is that JJ inherited one of the worst teams in program history whereas Benford inherited one of the best and crapped the bed on his way to losing season after losing season. If RV is right about Benford(Pro tip - He's not) then Benny and RV get extensions. If he is wrong about Benford then RV rides off into the sunset in 23 months. Edward Smith would have jumped this ship a long time ago. -

You will be waiting for a loooooong time -
This is the scary thing about next season. Every time Morris takes more than 2 seconds to get up after he gets hit will seem like an eternity.

Both Rick Villarreal and Tony Benford should be fired

At this point we've moved on to Soylent Green. -
OR Smith and the staff mutually agreed to part ways due to reasons that none of us do or should know. I love it when people automatically assume its due to grades, attitude, work ethic, etc...It's even better when people come on here and say emphatically that they KNOW it was because of these reasons. Better yet they heard it from the coach! IF, and that's a BIG IF, Coach Littrell told anyone outside of the staff that Smith was released due to grades, work ethic, etc... then Coach Littrell is doing a huge disservice to himself, the university, and the athletic department by airing this to anyone that does not have a need to know. And yes, the 17 don't need to know.

I'd kill for him!... I mean I'd kill to have him on our team.

Yeah, pretty crappy of UTSA with how they're handling Coker.
