Deep, I think that Jerry may finally be realizing that he CAN'T do it his way and win in the current NFL. Hopefully he will swallow his pride and give the reigns to Parcells. One problem is that Parcells will not be able to have Bill Belicheck(sp?) as his defensive coordinator, as he is already gainfully employed. The next few weeks could be VERY interesting. GO Mean Green!!!! Go Big Tuna!!!!

Has DD set a time frame for finding a replacement? It is pretty important for a recruit to know who his position coach will be. I think that DD needs to make a decision soon so it doesn't hinder recruiting. On The Bright Side: A UNT coach that somone else wants for their staff. Couldn't say that a few years ago. On the Not So Bright Side: Is that school really a step up? GMG!!!! Beat ou!!!!

Man, that's terrible. The obvious question is: Who steps it up to fill the void left by Leonards absence? GMG!!!!

You're right on the money Cerebus, the strobes are for photographers. You can notice the same thing next time you watch a Stars game on TV. Every now and then you will see an instantaneous flash every few seconds. You don't notice until someone points it out. After a friend pointed it out to me several years ago, I was going crazy noticing the flashes. GMG!!!! Kill the Cats!!!!

Why RV has failed as Athletic Director
Eagle-96 replied to MeanGreenTacoBean's topic in Mean Green Football
Nice post LoveMG, Where's your reply TacoBean? Sounds like some pretty good examples of the good that RV has done. Stop being a hater and get on the bandwagon. There's still room for everybody. BTW: Are you related to Helwig? GMG!!!! Crash the Wave!!!! -
Tech gets a really early pledge Greenville basketball player commits to Tech – in 10th grade 11/20/2002 By BRIAN DAVIS / The Dallas Morning News All Greenville sophomore Justin Wilkerson wanted to do was secure his college future. The 16-year-old with size-17 shoes may have walked into history in the process. Wilkerson, a 6-8 forward, orally committed to Texas Tech on Monday, even though he won't be able to join the Red Raiders basketball team until the fall of 2005. Recruiting experts say it's the first time a Texas high school player committed as a sophomore. Oral commitments are non-binding. Wilkerson cannot sign a national letter of intent until November 2004, when he will be a senior at Greenville. Wilkerson said Tech coach Bob Knight has promised a full scholarship even if the sophomore gets hurt in high school. Wilkerson can wait, though. He's more preoccupied with sophomore English and borrowing the family car since receiving his driver's license this summer. Wilkerson's birthday was in March, but he was too busy playing basketball to get a license then. "This is a done deal," Wilkerson said. "Coach Knight was real excited. He said congratulations, and that this will help our team and our recruiting and all kinds of other good stuff. He's just real excited. He's more excited than I am by the way he sounded." Knight is no stranger to dealing with younger players. While at Indiana, Knight offered guard Damon Bailey a scholarship when Bailey was in eighth grade. Bailey became an All-Big Ten and third-team All-American as a Hoosier. Wilkerson has averaged 19.5 points and 16 rebounds in Greenville's first two games this season. He averaged 16.1 points and eight rebounds as a freshman on the varsity. Wilkerson also had 100 blocks and sank 40 3-pointers. Greenville coach Rusty Harden said Wilkerson resembles former Tech center Andy Ellis, a player who could post up, rebound, play solid defense and step out and hit the occasional 3-pointer. "He fits ideally in a way they play," Harden said. "But I don't know if he's through growing or not." Knight first saw Wilkerson at the Great American Shoot-Out tournament in Denton this summer. Soon after, Wilkerson's mailbox started filling up with Tech information along with that of Baylor, Illinois and Tulsa. Wilkerson said it was so early in the recruiting process that he had not developed a top-five list. Turns out, he didn't need one. Mike Kunstadt, editor of Texas Hoops, has been tracking Texas basketball recruiting since 1988. During that time, no other player has committed this early, he said. Only a small number of juniors are beginning to commit early. "Texas is just awesome with the talent in this state," said Kunstadt, who also organizes the Denton tournament. "The young kids today, they're not like young kids were 15 to 20 years ago. There's just no comparison in their game." Wilkerson's commitment also gives Tech a better recruiting foothold in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Knight has wanted to reach into the talent-rich area since arriving at Tech in March 2001. Kunstadt said Tech's area recruiting efforts should improve once players see how Knight's program grows. GMG!!!! Beat SMS!!!!

Congrats to the ladies. This year should be pretty interesting after losing possibly two of the best to ever suit up for the Lady Eagles. I wonder who will step it up this year to fill the void and take this program to the next level. Tina is a good coach AND recruiter, and it seems that two of her freshman played quite nicely in the first tune up. This year should be exciting. GMG!!!! Go Lady Eagles!!!!

Jason Miller may start for Oklahoma State
Eagle-96 replied to Buford_Julep's topic in Mean Green Basketball
The way I see it is he quit on us. So if he sits the bench the whole year, that's fine with me. If you sign a scholarship with someone, you play with them for the duration. You don't turn tail and run when the going gets tough. You stick it out. So good riddance to Mr. Miller. GMG!!!! -
Thanks Lifer. GMG!!!! Arrest the Vandals!!!!

Shane, The point I'm making is that if the discussion was about XX million dollars for improvements to the journalism department at the expense of improvments to "existing programs, parking and even our drainage system" then the Daily would not have printed the editorial. And I 2nd Cerebus in that if the Daily prints their eidtorial as "opinion" then why don't we have the right to air our opinion about the editorial? (As well as the drinking part). Please don't ask me to feel sorry for art students that have to buy there supplies. Last time I checked most students in most majors have to buy their own supplies books, paper, pens, etc... That being said, Shane I am not attacking you. I just think that the Daily is too quick to jump on things that bring about progress. GMG!!!! Beat LaMo!!!!

Guys, It's pretty simple to see why they printed the editorial. People that think like that only want progress at UNT if it means that the resources for their department or major are not used to further the goal of the university as a whole. They fail to realize that each department must work in concert to advance the vision of the entire universtiy. "With the growing number of students it would seem like a feasible task, but there is no guarantee that NT will continue to grow at the current rate and many programs may be left in the cold". I beleive that the university's growth projections are based on population trend studies. Where does the Daily get their information to contradict this study. Did they pull it out of their a$$es. It's almost as if they're saying "Wow an engineering and law school would be great as long as you don't take MY funding". The editorial staff is acting like a bunch of 5 year olds that want to take their toys home because they are not getting their way. If the Daily had it their way, we would still be North Texas Normal. GMG!!!! Yes to UNT LAW!!!!

With all of the talent we lost(Reades and Mitchell) are we really expected to vie for the division crown this year? I expected the start of a rebuilding stint but the poll is encouraging. GMG!!!! Go Lady Eagles!!!!

"The current plan for athletic facilities is still on track. Liberty Christian is still being bought, the athletic center is now past design development and at the the technical plan stage and new lights and a new basketball court will be in place for the regular season opener" This is a quote straight from RV on the Football board. Anyone know if there is a change to the BBall floor design and what it will look like? Julep, Cooley, ANYONE GMG!!!!

Don't hate me for the following statement but, The next few years of JJ ball at UNT could make us forget about football alltogether. And I mean that in a good way. GMG!!!!

Reb, The MCL is the Medial Colateral Ligament in the knee. It is not nearly as bad as the dreaded ACL(Anterior Cruciate Ligament) tear. The MCL injury can take a couple of weeks to heal(strain to a partial tear), to a few months if it is a complete tear. MEDIAL COLATERAL LIGAMENT (MCL) The MCL is a 2-layered, fan shaped ligament that limits the ABDUCTION (moving away from the body) of the Tibia and external rotation. Injury is normally caused mainly by side-to-side stress by CONTACT when the foot is planted to the ground. The MCL strain is usually coupled with an ACL STRAIN or TEAR. GMG!!!! Beat uh!!!!

"Pay attention, do some research, learn the basics of how journalists do their job and you will get much farther in life. " I don't care how the"Journalism World" works. We don't need to be journalistic experts to write a response to a paper, just as you don't have to be a football coach to comment on a game. "And as I have said before, if you want to live someplace where the govt controls the media, I hear Facist Italy was a nice place or maybe prewar Afganistan? Nazi Germany? South Africa? Columbia? Cuba? You get the idea?" We ARE trying to control the media. If a publication prints an article that you disagree with, you tell that publication your feelings. If enough people voice that same opinon then the publication, if it is smart, makes changes. Guess what, papers don't print articles to make themselves feel all warm and fuzzy. They print articles to gain readership to in turn gain sponsors and sell ads to generate a profit(papers in general). "But I can tell you this......... Whatever good was done from RickV's letter was undone by the letters posted on this board" If that is the stance that the Daily takes, then our comments about them seem pretty accurate. The Daily would be a bunch of third graders if they acted in this manner(no offense to third graders). "Be insulted if you please, but I truly belive that 99% of you are disgruntled because you haven't a clue (I didn't call anyone clueless in life in general) about how to deal with the media. " Once again, it aint rocket science. "But the simple, hard to swallow fact of the matter is that NT (and much as I love em) has not accomplished the things that OU UT ATM ND and the other schools that are regularly on the front cover. When they do, I am sure that they will warrant that kind of coverage. They also don't have nearly the fan base. " We can agree on one thing. GMG!!!! BEAT nicholls!!!!

Do we get fight songs in this version. I hate it when a game has everyones fight song but just puts a generic song in for schools that are lesser known. GMG!!!!

Thanks for the reply, Reb. I know Denver will be tough and we're on their pitch for the game this year. Aside from Denver, who do you see as a threat to the title this year. A second question is: Do you know if the Liberty field will be designed as small as the current one? The small surface gives or ladies an advantage when other teams come in and are somewhat restricted by the size of the field. Whereas we are used to the field and can use that as an added weapon. GMG!!!! Saw 'em off 08/31/02(Sorry Reb. I bleed GREEN)

Reb, I know that most pre-season polls are just a bunch of hooey, and are nothing more than a popularity contest(especially in football). My question to you is: How accurate are pre-season soccer polls and does popularity come into play? My point is that Notre Dame, for instance, is usually in the football pre-season top 25 regardless of their talent level. They are basically there on name recognition. My quetsio also applies to the selection process for the NCAA tourney. How much of a favorites game is played by the selection committee? GMG!!!! Beat nicholls st.!!!!

Reb, Don't get me wrong, I never said the score and stall game was pretty. And I certainly don't like to play it. It can be very effective though. You are correct that the Brazilians have won their share of Cups, but Germany has taken their system to a few titles as well. And let's not forget that Khan lost the title game for Germany. Abysmal goalkeeping at best. Khan had no decisiveness to his game. He didn't know when to come out and when to hold his line. Reb, you are right on about the Dutch "Total" soccer system of the 70's. You had to be versital to play in the system because everybody had an offensive responsibility. Even the keeper had to distribute effectively and get the ball into te attack as soon as possible. And when sweepers and marking backs went on the attack, the midfielders and forwards would have to have the defensive abilities to be able to cover the holes left open by the backs moving forward. You simply had to be a fundamentaly sound soccer player. Actually Ajax is my favorite soccer team outside the U.S. and I have had the pleasure of seeing their stadium in person. If you haven't seen the stadium or a picture of it, I suggest you go to an Ajax webpage. This stadium, with a retractilbe roof, is considered the finest soccer venue in the world by some. GMG!!!! Beat texas!!!! (Sorry Reb, but I bleed Green.)

"As most people like to say that a good defense wins chamopionships i have to disagree! The best defense is a great offense there for they never have to defend and are always well rested" Tell that to the German National team. I beleive they would disagree. Plain and simple: Get a lead(whether it be off the set play, a quick counter attack, or timely distribution from the back) and then bunker down and sit on the lead. It may not be pretty but it is effective. Look at the U.S Germany game at the World Cup. The Germans got a goal off the set play and then lad back and let the game come to them. Sure the U.S. team outplayed the Germans that day, but that's not what counts. The final score is all that matters. And please don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm 30 years old and I have played soccer since I was 5. GMG!!!! Beat texas!!!!
