http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/082405..._kuale001.shtml LSU's Kuale out four-to-six weeks By CARL DUBOIS LSU expects senior weak-side linebacker E.J. Kuale to miss four-to-six weeks of practices and games with an ankle injury, and coach Les Miles said that will mean more playing time for converted tailback Jason Spadoni, probably as the early-season starter. "I think Jason Spadoni will probably be the guy at that side initially," Miles said late Tuesday night following a scrimmage in Tiger Stadium. Kuale, Miles said, suffered a left ankle injury Monday in practice. Miles would not say if Kuale broke or sprained his ankle. LSU opens the season Sept. 3 against North Texas. The Tigers will play Arizona State a week later, then have an open date before playing their third game against Tennessee on Sept. 24. All three games are at home. A senior from Daytona Beach, Fla., Kuale was the projected starter at weak-side linebacker. He played as a junior transfer last season, including two starts at strong-side linebacker. Senior Cameron Vaughn remains the starting middle linebacker. Senior Kenneth Hollis is the strong-side linebacker. Miles said strong-side backup Ali Highsmith, a sophomore, will also be in the mix with Spadoni on the other side. Sophomore Luke Sanders, Miles said, will remain a backup to Vaughn in the middle. Spadoni, a running back at John Curtis Christian School in the New Orleans suburb of River Ridge, switched to defense in the spring. He spent his previous seasons at LSU far down the depth chart at running back and played mainly on special teams. Why did Miles move him to linebacker? "So he could play," Miles said. The first-year coach said his first-year linebacker has proved capable, and naming him the probable starter Tuesday night was a confirmation of that. "He's pretty instinctive at 'backer," Miles said. "He's athletic. He's new to the spot, but not new to football." Miles said LSU coaches weren't sure Spadoni would make the transition smoothly. "Not until we got him there," Miles said. "We knew he was big enough. We knew he was strong enough an athlete. Lining up at tailback's not necessarily a criteria for linebacker; only the athleticism, but he has toughness and competitiveness." Miles said Kuale was injured Monday when an offensive player slid off his block on a defensive player and fell onto Kuale. "He was in the wrong spot in the wrong time," Miles said. "It was a noncontact drill, really. Very unfortunate." It was the second major injury of preseason practice. Alley Broussard, LSU's leading rusher last season, suffered a season-ending knee injury Aug. 13 in a scrimmage. Miles said Spadoni and Highsmith looked good during the scrimmage at the weak side, but he said he will know more when he reviews the videotape today. Freshman Darry Beckwith, hobbled by a lingering injury, did not participate, Miles said, but should return to practice Saturday

North Texas finished ahead of Denver, who received three first place votes, while Middle Tennessee picked up the remaining two first place votes and was picked third. North Texas sophomore forward Heather Hutyra, who was the 2004 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, was a preseason All-Sun Belt forward. Hutyra had six goals and 17 points last season. Denver forward Lleane Grimditch was named the league preseason player of the year. The junior recorded 17 points in 2004 and had three game-winning goals. Joining Grimditch on the preseason All-Sun Belt team, also voted on by the league coaches, were midfielders Jenna Billingsley and Laura Mann. Rounding out the team included Middle Tennessee midfielder Claire Ward and defensemen Katy Rayburn and Sara Wohlhueter. It was down to two players I think are ready for breakout years but in the 8th round of the Mean Green Adopt-A-Player Draft I will go with LB Maurice Holman. He showed us what he could do against Southern Miss and I think it will be hard for Monroe to win his job back at this point. Holman will turn some heads and I think he is heading for All-Conference honors this year.

DT's Shaun Rodgers and Marcus Jasmine are also nursing injuries at the present time which should give Bogger more reps in practice.

According to the Detroit Free Press the Lions waived both players today: http://www.freep.com/sports/lions/lions23e_20050823.htm The Lions are off today. Rogers is expected to practice Wednesday. ... The Lions released long snapper Jody Littleton and defensive tackle Kevin Carberry, a rookie free agent.

We can't forget that we all thought Scott Hall would be a star safety for us when DD recuited him. He flew up the depth charts and ended up starting for us so I wouldn't be surprised to see Phillips playing QB early for us if Meager can't go.
-
I think we may have broken the record for a single thread.

Cruel and unusual punishment.

So, you think it's funny to make a grown man cry?

I beleive that CFN asked this question and there were posts on GMG that asked what former Mean Green player we would add. What one college player currently playing on any other team in the country would you add to the Mean Green. I would go with the obvious and pick Matt Leinhart out of USC. We would be dangerous and have the ability to be a balanced team with the Heisman Trophy winner calling the shots.

Harry, When do you think we will know if the 3 players on the bubble have qualified or not. Is this along the lines of the next couple of days. BTW: Is it possible that DD & Co already know and just haven't said anything yet.
-
I am the guilty party that made reference to DD's contract length and recruiting. If a coach has one year remaining on his contraact, that is going to scare recruits away due to the fact that there is an apperance that the schools administration lacks confidence in the coach. Players choose coaches as much as they choose schools. I am sure there are running backs that have chosen NT due to our ball control run first philosophy used by DD. If a player thinks a coach might not be around for the length of the players time at a school, that might affect their decision. You can be sure other coaches will use a contract lenght against a lame-duck coach as a negative.

Could you elaborate a little.

There are reports that a second sipper was seen holding a Diet Rite behind a wooden fence but these have not been proven.

By new wrinkles do you mean run 66.3% of the time instead of 66.2%

Stupid Keith Hernandez and his magic loogies.

I just don't think we can equate a lack of aggresiveness with giving up.
