MGB: Details of UNT's contract with Bethune-Cookman
Eagle-96 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Well RV set the deal so I assume Florida will cover our airfare on Spirit Air and throw in 15 fee checked bags and cover our insurance co-pays for up to 20 injuries. I think they are also throwing in a free pregame meal from Perkins(tip not included).- 22 replies

Weather experts on the board provide your analysis
Eagle-96 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?map.x=186&map.y=68&site=fwd&zmx=1&zmy=1#.V9K9jk0rLL4 Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Light north northwest wind becoming north 10 to 15 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. -
I just want to win. IF(and that's a BIG if) we win going away then put in the back-ups and get guys some experience. Freshman need to be playing right now at any opportunity that presents itself. We can't worry about protecting red-shirts. We just don't have enough bodies under scholarship. We need as many experienced players on this team now and in the future. But the first priority this week is simply to win. This team and this fan-base needs it right now.

Guess the UNT-Bethune Cookman attendance
Eagle-96 replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Football
17,300 Forecast for rain for the first 2/3 of the day and a MEAC opponent does not bode well for attendance. -
Or Brihm wanted to stay close to his home in Delray Beach. He is also listed at 5'11" which probably puts him closer to 5'9" or 5'10". That takes away a lot of offers as our own Mason Fine knows all to well. Matt Davis is listed between 6'0" and 6'2" depending on the source.

And therein lies the problem for CUSA, MWC, MAC, AAC etc... Wait(hope) until the Big 12 implodes and pick off leftovers. The payoff is possibly getting better schools in a few years if the implosion ever happens. The downside is the Big 12 sticks around for many more years and you lose the chance to get schools that choose to go elsewhere in the meantime. It is a calculated risk for sure. The only thing we know for sure is that the DFW market can make up for A LOT of blemishes when it comes to conference opportunities for UNT.

I sense some sarcasm in there but not sure so here goes. Conferences fail when they are reactive as opposed to proactive. The SEC was fine as a conference but wanted to get stronger so they invited A&M and Missouri. They could have waited on other dominoes to fall but they were proactive and now have the strongest football conference in the galaxy. This is also why the Big 12 is expanding now. They don't want to implode. They want to get stronger. I believe BYU and Houston/Cincinnati would do just that. After that happens then the AAC replaces 1 or more. CUSA replaces 1 or more. The MWC better get there first or they may go the way of the WAC. This is also assuming that any Big 12 leftovers(if they implode) would be interested in the MWC.

Rain helps the offense a little in that the WR knows where he is going before the play while the DB doesn't. It can be tough for DBs to keep up with the cuts and moves on the slippery turf. The slippery field can make the difference between being tightly covered and wide open. I'll take the rain in this case.

Mobile QB. Size on both lines. These are the things that worry me. We need to be disciplined on D and not allow Brihm to kill us with his legs. Anyone and everyone on the team that went through the PSU debacle last season needs to let this team know not to overlook ANYONE. UNT 31 BC 21

The DFW TV market and the fact that schools want to play a game here every other year in the DFW recruiting hotbed are our only crutches in expansion. We certainly don't have anything to offer from an athletic standpoint. Baker must push the market size and recruiting angle to the MWC and AAC every chance he gets.

Expectations for the rest of the season
Eagle-96 replied to untjim1995's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm sticking with 2-10. I had BC and UTSA as the wins. This will be a long process and might not be as fast as we like. See Southern Miss as the blueprint for success. -
One time target Devante Kincade had a good game in his first game for Grambling Passing 10 of 18 for 107 yards 2 TDs and 3 INT Rushing: 4 rushes for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns

I'm just glad he doesn't sugar coat his views. Morris made the wrong read and SL let everyone know it. The best players are gonna play regardless of class. This is a refreshing change. I can't stand coach speak and I am glad we're not getting it. I imagine Seth during the 4th down play was like the video when Tom Landry was on the sideline in a game yelling" No no no" during an audible BTW: Morris looks like a genius if he hits Tee on that pass.

DRC Monday column: Loss to SMU brings challenge into focus
Eagle-96 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
The blitz gave us problems all night. The good thing is there is A LOT of film to look at regarding blitz protection. The most confounding part was that when they showed blitz, they came with it. They didn't disguise it much and it still worked. Morris has to work on his internal clock. He held on to the ball and waited on plays to develop rather than going through his progression and either throwing the ball or tucking it and getting out of there. The good thing is that these problems are all coachable. I feel good about BC and our chances this week. It will do a world of good for everyone's confidence if we can go into our BB game at Florida with a 1-1 record. -
DRC Monday column: Loss to SMU brings challenge into focus
Eagle-96 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
We don't know the circumstances of why Morris was a no show. Hopefully there is a valid reason other than not wanting to face the music. If that was the reason then I would hope the players "hold him accountable" this week. He is a captain and he needs to act like it. -
Lack of explosiveness will make for a long year for UNT
Eagle-96 replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Football
Smoooo blitz packages really caused trouble all night. The disappointing aspect is that they didn't really disguise them at all. If they showed blitz they came with the house. They knew they could rattle a new offense and QB and it worked. We never made them pay for blitzing. That is where we need to work is the blitz pickups by backs and Olineman. Receivers need to have better hot route recognition. It will get better and so will the offense because of it. -
I'll never know why Smoooo can't bring more fans 35 miles up the road. It's not that hard. Underwhelmed again.

This is my 5th coaching change and 3rd AD. Each time in the past it felt new and the optimism was there but ended up being a band aid on a sucking chest wound. There have been a few highs and many many lows but we were always mired in the doldrums. This time around we changed the HFC and the AD in what feels like one fell swoop. It really feels like there has been a top down culture change here. It feels like there is a sense of urgency here and two guys with legacies to build. We may not see the improvement on the field that we all want to see this year but just give it some time because SL has us headed in the right direction.

I'm up early. Couldn't sleep. Dreamed about your delicious, glistening, hot balls all night.

I thought it was $10 IIRC.
