I Have A Theory

That guy is unbelievable...the first time I thought it was a bit. Makes for entertaining radio, though. -

That pretty much summed up the discussion on the Ticket...I thought the point about our country looking for the best PG's, running backs, and hitters instead of the best midfielders like they do in every other country was a great point. -

They're talking about this topic right now on the Ticket...good discussion and some good points. I'll summarize when I'm not at work. -
Soccer In America

Wow...that's the weakest arguement I've ever heard against the game. There are many occasions in any sport where the better team/competitor does not end up winning the game. -

That maybe the case for 5A (and 4A?) in Texas. But I went to a 3A school that had neither a men's or women's team. We had plenty of other sports, but no soccer. -

Football and American Football are tied for my favorite sports. By the way, how the hell did "football" get attached to the american sport...maybe tackle ball would have been a better name. -

No...not really. I would argue that a big reason many kids leave soccer after their younger years is lack of a strong high school and college presence and a pro league that is not as popular as the "big 4" leagues. I would have loved to keep playing soccer if my high school had a team and/or there would have been more of an opportunity to play it in college. But, I wasn't given that "choice". In most cases, I believe what sports you gravitate to are the ones your parents are into. -

I could use your arguement to explain why soccer isn't as popular in the US...lack of choice. For decades, the US hasn't had a legitimate (long standing) professional soccer league. Part of this, I blame on the other four professional sports leagues. The other part I blame on the European leagues being so much higher in quality (pulling our best players over there). The MLS (now in its 13th season?) is on its way to becoming a legit league, I believe. Attendance has been on a steady rise (the increasing Hispanic population helps this), league expansion, and continual improvement in the level of play point to it. It may take another 2 or 3 decades, but I see soccer being comprable in popularity with hockey and maybe even basketball in the future. While we're throwing out opinions...let me just take the opportunity to state that baseball sucks donkey poo. I'm baffled as to how it has become as popular a sport as it has. Its like modified cricket. -

Really?...well lets just see what these organizations say about the subject: Looks like NASA disagrees with you Oops...looks like NOAA does too. See FAQ topic #3 Interestingly enough this topic #3 also states that the upper atmosphere has cooled due to the greenhouse effect holding warmer temperatures closer to the surface. Learn something new everyday. As for the British science institute, my quick google search did not come up with anything from there website that I saw. However, I got quickly distracted by the following headline from the BBC that did pop up in my search: Great Tits Cope Well with Warming Guess the future won't be too bad. For as much preaching about accepting the "truth" that the conservatives on this board do, your little gem of a statement does nothing to help your credibility. Besides, I thought its been pretty much determined that the planet is indeed warming. If I'm not mistaken, the debate lies in what is causing it and if it is a natural cycle.

True...I can reference single days that "prove" global warning is occuring: Back on February 6, 2009, Denver had a high temperature of 68, which is much higher that the average high of 46 for Denver in February. I was excited I got to dust off my shorts and sandals early Denver, CO 2/6/09 Average Denver Temperatures Take that, Global Warming Denying Nut-jobs! (before I get forum raped...note the sarcasm in this last statement) You're right about that news anchor...yikes!

Shock And Awe
BeanCounterGrad'03 replied to meangreenbob's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
wow...and I thought the doomsday prophecies from SUMG, FFR, KRAM1, etc. were a little silly. You just took it to a whole new level. -
Isn't that how religion started? Maybe I should stop going to church, reading the bible, or listening to the opinions of posters like meangreenbob. How dare they tell me to turn the other cheek...that pacifist hippie liberal Jesus! (and before people think I'm comparing Obama or any other political leader to Jesus, I'm not...just having fun with hyperbole) I don't think the main objective of (most) law and policy makers is to tell other how to live their lives, but rather to lessen the burden on society in general (i.e. lower insurance and healthcare costs, cleaner environments, lower dependence on foreign energy, etc.).

I don't believe that "selective breeding" could be considered evolution, so maybe the height example wasn't a good one. I don't think it was necessarily a "leap" from a less evolved being to humans, but more like a "slow crawl". Maybe another good example would be differences in skin color between races. Humans living closer to the equator developed darker skin tones to better adapt to the greater exposure to the sun. Don't think this has been proven, but only a theory. (Apologies if I offend anyone...not my intention)
