Good game and W today! Nice to put a complete game together. Great to see Rubin have such a good game. Dominated the hustle stats. Press break looked much cleaner and more efficient. Allen continues to play well for us. Measuring stick game against FAU next. Looking forward to that one.

Scott plays much better offensively when Rubin is available. Hope they can stay in a groove into the AAC Tournament.

Always love the road wins!

Allen coming up big again. Key FT’s in crunch time.
-
Horrible turnover to giving up a three on the other end sequence. Last thing we needed.

So sad and weak. Come and play at our place but scared to play away. If you’ve gotta duck Colorado State and North Texas, you’ve got serious issues as a football program.

Calling This Before I Can Say "I Told You So"

Sometimes I question if getting the Basketball Forum placed on top of GMG was a good thing. -
Exactly. To be clear for everyone in the thread - I’m not advocating firing the guy or that his seat is hot. Just find it interesting that certain players on here consistently receive criticism (some warranted) but we’re hesitant to scrutinize the person in charge of it all & proclaim that we’re all good at that spot. I’m just not convinced is all. It’s still very early in his tenure, but I had a way different feeling about Mac in Year 1 vs Hodge Year 1. Grant inherited a disaster of a program and quickly righted the ship. Ross took over a 30+ Win NIT Championship team. It’s not even close to the same situation. This with the caveat that I do acknowledge injury struggles this year. There are certain issues: late game offensive sets for last shots, late game management, press break, giving up offensive rebounds in critical situations ect. that have been recurring issues throughout the season regardless of player availability.

Is it time to open the discussion about Ross Hodge? I mean there’s been tons of talk on here about how he was the reason for Mac’s success and we’re getting a 1 for 1 replacement if not better. I’m not so sure about that at this point. We play awful situational basketball in crunch time.
-
In this case I’d feel like we got the dart OUT of his neck.
-
We look terrible so far. Very sloppy
-
Pretty terrible half of basketball. Not a ton to like.
-
0-5 from 3. Ugh

Texas Tech, OSU, CBI Finals against USF, La Tech, WKU are the immediate standout games that come to mind. All of those crowds and experiences are seared into my brain. Illustrates what North Texas can be when we choose to.

Just unwind with some Musical Starscapes and let it go! He’s harder to talk shop with than Andrew.

Why is that?
-
Again - some of this is about the amount of energy expended to advance the ball into our half court sets. This disrupts our strategy/flow offensively and has a cumulative effect on wearing our guys down throughout the course of the game. Do you agree that our FT shooting percentage as a team has suffered since we’ve been dealing with these injuries? Why is that? Did they just forget how to shoot em? Or are we tired? There’s a larger scope strategy at play. All I’m saying is that this is clearly affecting our team’s top end potential. We’re still good and competitive in all these games.

Allen coast to coast!!! And 1!
-
Robert Allen and 1!!!’ Love it!

Maybe a bit. It all looks pretty similar to me to be honest. I’m not saying we’re playing “bad”. Rather that teams have adjusted to our clear depth related weaknesses and we continue to struggle with the same issues game in and game out right now.
-
Only a couple by my count today - but turnovers aren’t the only effect that full court pressure provides. Our entire offense suffers when we’re late into our half court sets. Over the past month or so, we’ve gotten caught very late into possessions firing up ill advised shots as the clock expires. We’ve gotten bailed out by Buggs several times. We’ve also gotten tired and run down in almost every game resulting in way more foul calls and creating pressure on how we can defend late in games. If you’ve got a well oiled press break, you can force teams out of it by converting easy buckets on the other end. We simply don’t. The book is out on us, and every team we play now is defending us this way - and they should.
-
Bears repeating - Allen has been such a huge addition for us. Love his game.
-
Not sure about that. We still can’t handle full court pressure well without our true ball handlers and guys like A Scott look gassed early. Lack of depth is killing our top end potential even though we’re still playing tough every game.
-
Also - though the officiating getting whistle happy was maddening, hat tip to UAB for knocking down their FT’s. Dragged themselves back in the game taking advantage of it. We missed key FT opportunities and they didn’t.
