  1. I’ve said many times that he’s a good player. As @Censored by Laurie stated though, he’s not a “special” talent. He’s not Perry, or Hamlet, or White, or Thompson, or Davis. I think we can find a better ball handler, more efficient scorer & a longer, more tenacious perimeter defender. We’ll see though. That’s Ross’ job to get that done, not mine. And as far as this season being “good enough” - it’s a matter of perspective I suppose. The AAC wasn’t THAT much tougher than CUSA of past. We were kinda mid pack. Didn’t really beat the good teams in league play. We did get into the NIT though - but there were tons of teams on the declined NIT invite list. Happy we played post-season basketball but still think we left quite a bit on the table when it was all said and done.
  2. Stating facts about his game is “ripping” him? And with NIL - I’m comfortable with it. So are most of the rational posters here. If these dudes are “paid” athletes now, they can handle criticism - especially from fans that fund the program (season ticket holders, MGSF, & NIL collective donors). This isn’t college athletics of old. It’s not as fun. And if they don’t stay and get degrees, you’re not really one of us. You’re someone who played here for a year or two then changed teams like a pro athlete does.
  3. Volume shooter to get his points. Poor ball handler and questionable decision maker in crunch time situations. Liability on defense. Not clutch offensively like Perry or Hamlet.
  4. Probably but still. Ugh. Need a basketball only facility.
  5. They said on the pre-game if we win we’re away in either scenario because of a conflict at the Super Pit this weekend 🙄.
  6. Glad we were able to close this one out. Made it tough on ourselves down the stretch but it’s a great road win to start the NIT push.
  7. Pleasantly surprised that we got selected! So important to continue building on the “North Texas plays post-season basketball” expectations.
  8. Agree. Too many nights Edwards is a volume shooter to get his points. Look at the box from last night. Edwards 8-22 to get his 26 vs Davis 8-11 to get his 18. Then Goldin 7-12 for his 21. Scoring efficiency matters in these really close games against good teams. We wasted lots of good looks/possessions throughout this season - including last night. He would be incredible in the scoring firepower off the bench as a 6th man. He probably doesn’t want that role though, which I also understand.
  9. Mixed bag for me this season. Sustained injuries to multiple key players makes it really hard to evaluate. I tend to lean harsher on the criticism because of the roster Ross inherited and elevated expectations for the program in general. But we’re competitive with really good teams and were rarely embarrassed. On the flip side, end of season hindsight, we didn’t really amass any wins of true significance - maybe Memphis but they faded so hard. The good OOC and AAC teams all handled us. Hope the portal is good to us in the off-season to add some size and toughness in the middle.
  10. Congrats to FAU. They make the winning plays consistently. When they’ve beaten you 5 straight, they’re just flat better.
  11. The way things are shaking out there’s definitely a reasonable pathway for us to win this thing. We gotta slay the FAU beast though. We owe em one!
  12. If we’ve got to get his “off game” out of the way, this was the night to do it.
  13. That dunk was nuts! Great play by Noland!
  14. Congrats to FAU on the win. They flat beat us. Davis is a great player. They made the winning plays when it counted. Thought our situational basketball down the stretch was suspect, particularly the bad inbounds play. Impressed with FAU’s athletes and their physicality.
  15. Honestly who cares anymore? This realignment stuff has gotten so stupid.
  16. Good game and W today! Nice to put a complete game together. Great to see Rubin have such a good game. Dominated the hustle stats. Press break looked much cleaner and more efficient. Allen continues to play well for us. Measuring stick game against FAU next. Looking forward to that one.
  17. Scott plays much better offensively when Rubin is available. Hope they can stay in a groove into the AAC Tournament.
  18. Always love the road wins!
  19. Allen coming up big again. Key FT’s in crunch time.
  20. Horrible turnover to giving up a three on the other end sequence. Last thing we needed.
  21. So sad and weak. Come and play at our place but scared to play away. If you’ve gotta duck Colorado State and North Texas, you’ve got serious issues as a football program.
  22. Sometimes I question if getting the Basketball Forum placed on top of GMG was a good thing.
  23. Exactly. To be clear for everyone in the thread - I’m not advocating firing the guy or that his seat is hot. Just find it interesting that certain players on here consistently receive criticism (some warranted) but we’re hesitant to scrutinize the person in charge of it all & proclaim that we’re all good at that spot. I’m just not convinced is all. It’s still very early in his tenure, but I had a way different feeling about Mac in Year 1 vs Hodge Year 1. Grant inherited a disaster of a program and quickly righted the ship. Ross took over a 30+ Win NIT Championship team. It’s not even close to the same situation. This with the caveat that I do acknowledge injury struggles this year. There are certain issues: late game offensive sets for last shots, late game management, press break, giving up offensive rebounds in critical situations ect. that have been recurring issues throughout the season regardless of player availability.
  24. Is it time to open the discussion about Ross Hodge? I mean there’s been tons of talk on here about how he was the reason for Mac’s success and we’re getting a 1 for 1 replacement if not better. I’m not so sure about that at this point. We play awful situational basketball in crunch time.
