  1. Yes! Making this alignment shift seems to have allowed the players to read and react much quicker. The extra LB out there has helped set the edge more consistently. Credit to the defense yesterday. They played well and definitely kept us in the game while the offense was sputtering early. Was really nice to see. Big improvement on that side of the ball these last two games. Credit to the players and coaches for making the change.
  2. Great encapsulation of our strengths! Nice to see that all pulled together. Maddening that our history of middling football hires is the reason we’re not at the forefront of the current round of conference shuffling discussion. All the more reason myself and others were advocating for a “surer bet” as HC with some skins and name recognition this past go around. Especially given what we’re capable of paying.
  3. To be clear - we’re 100% blaming Morris for the defensive mess. Caponi didn’t hire and retain himself.
  4. Agree. And our version of it is horrifically bad. We are soft everywhere. It particularly awful on running plays where the back ends up bouncing outside or passing downs where things break down a bit and the opposing QB decides to run outside. We consistently crash inside and have ZERO outside contain. We let so many teams off the hook in 3rd and medium/long yardage situations because of this alone. It’s soul crushing. Doesn't even get into CB’s being lined up 10 yards back from WR’s. None of it makes any sense for the personnel we have or are realistically going to be able to acquire.
  5. I mean the fanbase wasn’t really onboard with this hire to begin with. What are we expecting reaction wise? People are pissed and they should be.
  6. Same. Tired of the excuses.
  7. 7-5 or better and a Bowl win. Otherwise, why bother firing Seth?
  8. The fact that we are even discussing a game being included on this list is all that really needs to be said. Abject failure.
  9. It’s not a knee jerk. We’re watching historically bad defense for the 2nd year in a row - like Ron Mendoza bad. That’s on Morris. Many of us have seen this movie before. Hard pass.
  10. Maybe. Point is there were much surer bets out there for North Texas to hire if we were moving on from a (and I know this will trigger some) successful UNT coach in Littrell. Coaches that have proven to build much more complete looking teams than the one side of the ball focused mess that we are right now. Considering all the chess pieces moving all over the board in FBS right now, a huge swing and a miss in our football leadership has the potential to be devastating to the program long term.
  11. Reminder that we could and SHOULD have pursued coaches on the market with proven FBS HC success - Gary Patterson, Justin Fuente, Tom Herman, Barry Odom, Mark Mangino, ect. We didn’t. You reap what you sow.
  12. Absolutely pathetic so far. How are our guys not fired up to play this game?
  13. Recency bias is a real thing in college sports media & fandom. Most are idiots. UNT beats Tech tomorrow and Wyoming in 2 weeks and all of a sudden we’re a “top expansion target”, on our way up, hired the hot upcoming coach who Tech’s gonna hire away, ect. I like Texas State’s coach & they’re playing tough - reality is he’s probably gone after this season. Maybe one more if they’re lucky. Can you hire again successfully? Harder than it seems. Such is the life of a “have not” in this sport.
  14. Glad we got the W. Said in the other thread that if we only scored 35 pts in this game that I’d be very disappointed. And I am - with the offense. The 3rd string center being in there is brutal and caused all sorts of problems tonight. The snowballing of bad penalties with lack of discipline was hard to watch. Defense is still bad, but not AS bad as last year’s version, which was historically atrocious. Like last week, they have some moments and find a way off the field in some key situations. There are some positives to build on. Turned the ball over 4 times and still could/should have scored 42 pts - kneeling it out at the 2 yd line. Tighten up offensively and we can win the next 2 if we play the way we are capable.
  15. Not gonna lie. If we only score 35 pts in this game after what we saw last weekend out of Morris and crew - I’m going to be very disappointed.
  16. Totally agree. Flew under the radar a bit due to Morris and Ward both having explosive performances. He did a great job stepping up yesterday, plugging in seamlessly. Very impressed.
  17. The offense was impressive to watch today. Morris is so poised out there. Ward and the WR group was fun to watch. Defense managed a few key plays. Still concerned on that side of the ball. Happy with a big road W to start the year!
  18. What’s the story with Sides being out? That sucks.
  19. They’re about the only exception to this in FBS. I also don’t care about those other programs. I care about North Texas and that’s it. My point is you’re saying that we make all kinds of excuses for struggling with attendance - I’m pointing out the obvious and ONLY reason/excuse that matters in regards to this. We haven’t and don’t win at a consistent enough level to warrant it. Almost all G5 programs have pretty poor support overall, so I agree with you there. Having 3,000 extra fans a game inside the stadium last year wouldn’t have made a difference in the W-L record. Doesn’t matter if we all cheer extra hard. Blaming the UNT fanbase that exists and supports this mess throughout the years is ridiculous. We don’t hire the bad coaches or play the games. But I do support $$$ and consume the largely poor product.
  20. So no examples. Got it. I’m tired of excuses too. But the ones I’m tired of are the lack of performance on the field, poor coaching, choking big moments away, ect. Others get it done with way less. Sick of blaming our fans who may be the some of the clearest examples of sports masochism you’ll ever encounter.
  21. K. Show a bunch of G5 programs with sustained losing records for approximately 20 years that have “impressive” attendance. Can’t wait to see this list.
  22. How bout we try putting out a sustained winning product for a change and see what happens?
