***OFFICIAL UNT vs FAU In-Game Discussion***
Green Lantern replied to Mean Green Newz's topic in Mean Green Football
What a win! Unreal. We didn’t play well but we f’n STOLE it. Great mental toughness on display. -
The better sign to UNT admins related to this group would be “Quit hiring outside talent when you have dedicated degreed alums on staff who would crush this leadership role”. Grass is NEVER greener (pun intended) outside the UNT family for these roles. It’s a passion business. All our experienced and highly regarded alums that worked there and/or in tangentially related UNT Advancement roles have been poached away by other institutions (SMU, Colorado, OK State, Sam Houston, A&M Commerce, amongst others) or left for private sector roles that compensate appropriately because of being passed over for external hires (minus the smart KFra hire) time and time again.
-
Or basically any of the other UNT stars (excluding the Murphy Twins) who portaled out of here at the height of their powers. All those dudes would have been better off, including as potential pro prospects, if they’d just stayed put.

Correction. One winning season - 8&5 last year - and a 2-2 record so far this year. The Texas State infatuation in realignment talk is bizarre to me. Nothing against the school, I just don’t get it.

Good Game for Caponi and the Defense
Green Lantern replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes! Making this alignment shift seems to have allowed the players to read and react much quicker. The extra LB out there has helped set the edge more consistently. Credit to the defense yesterday. They played well and definitely kept us in the game while the offense was sputtering early. Was really nice to see. Big improvement on that side of the ball these last two games. Credit to the players and coaches for making the change. -
Heading out to try Osteria II Muro b4 the game
Green Lantern replied to Tommy Gadberry's topic in Mean Green Football
Enjoy! It’s incredible. -
Great encapsulation of our strengths! Nice to see that all pulled together. Maddening that our history of middling football hires is the reason we’re not at the forefront of the current round of conference shuffling discussion. All the more reason myself and others were advocating for a “surer bet” as HC with some skins and name recognition this past go around. Especially given what we’re capable of paying.

Morris needs to own the Caponi hire
Green Lantern replied to Tom McKrackin's topic in Mean Green Football
To be clear - we’re 100% blaming Morris for the defensive mess. Caponi didn’t hire and retain himself. -
Agree. And our version of it is horrifically bad. We are soft everywhere. It particularly awful on running plays where the back ends up bouncing outside or passing downs where things break down a bit and the opposing QB decides to run outside. We consistently crash inside and have ZERO outside contain. We let so many teams off the hook in 3rd and medium/long yardage situations because of this alone. It’s soul crushing. Doesn't even get into CB’s being lined up 10 yards back from WR’s. None of it makes any sense for the personnel we have or are realistically going to be able to acquire.
-
I mean the fanbase wasn’t really onboard with this hire to begin with. What are we expecting reaction wise? People are pissed and they should be.

Same. Tired of the excuses.

Mosley: Fire Morris or leave as well
Green Lantern replied to Marcelo's topic in Mean Green Football
7-5 or better and a Bowl win. Otherwise, why bother firing Seth? -
The fact that we are even discussing a game being included on this list is all that really needs to be said. Abject failure.

Mosley: Fire Morris or leave as well
Green Lantern replied to Marcelo's topic in Mean Green Football
It’s not a knee jerk. We’re watching historically bad defense for the 2nd year in a row - like Ron Mendoza bad. That’s on Morris. Many of us have seen this movie before. Hard pass. -
🔥🔥🔥Official UNT vs Texas Tech IN-GAME DISCUSSION🚨🚨🚨
Green Lantern replied to Cooke County Kid's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe. Point is there were much surer bets out there for North Texas to hire if we were moving on from a (and I know this will trigger some) successful UNT coach in Littrell. Coaches that have proven to build much more complete looking teams than the one side of the ball focused mess that we are right now. Considering all the chess pieces moving all over the board in FBS right now, a huge swing and a miss in our football leadership has the potential to be devastating to the program long term. -

Reminder that we could and SHOULD have pursued coaches on the market with proven FBS HC success - Gary Patterson, Justin Fuente, Tom Herman, Barry Odom, Mark Mangino, ect. We didn’t. You reap what you sow.- 618 replies

Always. It boggles my mind. -
Recency bias is a real thing in college sports media & fandom. Most are idiots. UNT beats Tech tomorrow and Wyoming in 2 weeks and all of a sudden we’re a “top expansion target”, on our way up, hired the hot upcoming coach who Tech’s gonna hire away, ect. I like Texas State’s coach & they’re playing tough - reality is he’s probably gone after this season. Maybe one more if they’re lucky. Can you hire again successfully? Harder than it seems. Such is the life of a “have not” in this sport.

****OFFICIAL SFA vs UNT In-Game DISCUSSION****
Green Lantern replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Glad we got the W. Said in the other thread that if we only scored 35 pts in this game that I’d be very disappointed. And I am - with the offense. The 3rd string center being in there is brutal and caused all sorts of problems tonight. The snowballing of bad penalties with lack of discipline was hard to watch. Defense is still bad, but not AS bad as last year’s version, which was historically atrocious. Like last week, they have some moments and find a way off the field in some key situations. There are some positives to build on. Turned the ball over 4 times and still could/should have scored 42 pts - kneeling it out at the 2 yd line. Tighten up offensively and we can win the next 2 if we play the way we are capable. -
Not gonna lie. If we only score 35 pts in this game after what we saw last weekend out of Morris and crew - I’m going to be very disappointed.

Totally agree. Flew under the radar a bit due to Morris and Ward both having explosive performances. He did a great job stepping up yesterday, plugging in seamlessly. Very impressed.

Green Lantern replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The offense was impressive to watch today. Morris is so poised out there. Ward and the WR group was fun to watch. Defense managed a few key plays. Still concerned on that side of the ball. Happy with a big road W to start the year! -
