The report will tell us things we don't already know....you know, like we need to win more football games, need a bigger fan base, winning more football games will help to build a bigger fan base, new stadium may help us in recruiting (recruits would rather play in a fancy new stadium as opposed to one like Fouts...I did not know that), etc. There...don't you feel better informed now??

And why don't we throw over the middle more? We have thrown too much to the sidelines for short gains. I am getting frustrated to to see us slowly move it down field...burn up the clock...just to turn it over b/c of stupid penalties. What ever happened to using the tight end more???

Does North Texas Change Its Shade Of Green & Tweak

Perfect...+1 -
Um...yeah...there is a reason why there were 2 QB's ahead of Riley on the depth chart. Injuries...maybe...capability...definitely. With Riley as the starter we are guaranteed losses...

I agree with all you have to say...VERY demoralizing this loss was. I made the trek up from NC (yes, the trek back DID really suck after that loss) for the game...sorry we did not meet. I was able to speak with Coach Canales for a while, and also met Derek's dad. West Point is an absolutely beautiful place. The weather was perfect (cloudy at first but did clear off) and looking up the Hudson was awesome! The people there and the cadets we spoke with were very gracious to us...even as we boarded the bus to head back to our car after the game. However, these kids were not prepared to play. I, too, am wondering if they have lost faith and confidence...either in themselves or in the coaching staff.

Dodge, Unt Players Say They Still Have Something Left
NCMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
TD stated that once we were down by 14 points, he had to go in a different direction offensively. Soooo...the answer was simple: DO NOT GIVE THE BALL TO ONE OF THE BEST RUNNING BACKS IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!! Although Lance's longest run of the game was called back by a holding call...it was a beautiful run. I am fairly confident that Lance Dunbar knows what he is doing, and is very capable. So capable that when we are down and need some points, Todd Dodge decides to.....NOT GIVE HIM THE ROCK!!!:angry: So, anybody still thinks he knows what he is doing?? -
Dodge, Unt Players Say They Still Have Something Left

I am sorry...I hate to keep saying it over and over, but I was there...and these players flat out gave up before the game even started. Whether it is because they do not have faith in this coaching staff (or maybe just HC?) I do not know. Why are we supposed to believe they will "turn it around" when they showed NOTHING in that game at Army? Seriously...they looked REALLY, REALLY bad at Army... -
If Riley is our starting QB...we will never win another game the rest of the season. First of all, has anyone actually seen him in person...he is about 5' 8". I have often wondered why he has had so many passes batted down, and has hit so many lineman in the back with the ball. Now I know... More importantly, we did not win when he was our QB. He tucks and runs too much...probably because he is afraid of getting hit. At the Army game he slid (in bounds, of course) and missed the 1st down by one yard. There was not even a defender there, really, he just slid. If you are going to do that, at least pick up the first down young man. Also, I remember a plethora (my NT education! ) of people giving me a hard time because I was concerned about his injury situation and questioning whether he could hold up to the rigors of Div I-A football. Well...anybody not wondering about that now?? Did I mention he was, like, 5-8?? If I were the coaches...I would do something drastic. I mean hell...you having so many pieces missing anyway...not like shifting focus will be that disruptive since you have so many new players now.

SOME of us actually went to the Army game. SOME of us actually witnessed this team give up. SOME of us watched the confusion from the coaches (wasting precious time before calling time out at the end of the second quarter...NOT going for it on 4th and 1 at the 45 yard line???, etc.). SOME of us noticed the look of despair and utter defeat on the players' faces BEFORE the game even started (and, of course, Army marched it right down for a TD to start the game). SOME of us were HEARTBROKEN to witness the frustration from Lance Dunbar because the coaches were too inept to call a play in...then wasted a good 18 precious seconds before calling that timeout. Lance Dunbar plays with heart...to witness the frustration when he came off to the sidelines was sickening to me. Broke my heart..... SOME of us were not proud...and I would be remiss to totally excuse the effort (or, lack thereof)....coaching (or, lack thereof)...and the fact that we looked like we did not even show up. No offense to Army (I cannot say anything bad about the Army or USMA as my father was in the Army for 26 years)...but it is not as if they are a perennially Top 25 team. BUT...they absolutely CRUSHED this team. SOME of us are realistic. SOME of us realize the futility of this season. SOME of us realize the best course of action would be to cut our losses and move on to a new regime.

I cannot agree more...this was one of my favorite football trips of all time (other than the "football" fiasco!) The post was awesome (beautiful architecture)...cadets we spoke to were fine young gentleman and proud they will be the leaders of tomorrow...awesome stadium...probably my second best experience ever. Watching the parachute team was ALMOST as good as witnessing the Navy fly-over (but that will NEVER be beat...those jets looked to be about 20 yards above Fouts!!!) Army band was good...playing our fight song was a nice touch. However, we spoke to some of the players before the game...and they looked very lethargic and not very pumped up at all. There was no excitement...no intensity at all. Then the game started...and the onslaught began. We witnessed players outright missing tackles...lolly-gagging...and not playing with any vigor whatsoever. I will not point out any names...but very disappointed by some of the personal efforts. Robertson had a HELL of a game, though...maybe Phillips too...but that was about it. Defense had an OK game...offense was non existent. We were able to speak with Coach Canales for a while (what an awesome guy, by the way) and he seemed excited about the game. Time to make him HC?? Anyway, not much else to add...had to drive from West Point to DC after the game. That drive sucked after that kind of loss. Honestly, it is like the team never even showed up. One more thing...should have went for it on 4th and 1.....

I met Derek's Dad at the game, and he could not have been a nicer gentleman. He answered every question my brother and I had aout Derek...and I thoroughly enjoyed talking with him. I feel sooo bad for him, Derek, and his family. He is so very proud of his son...and that pride was extremely evident. He was beaming about being able to watch his son play and start. I wish Derek and his family well....and hope for a speedy recovery.

IF we lose to Army, should TD be fired during the season, or should RV hold up his end of the bargain and see if we can actually get to 7 wins?

I bounced this off of Vito and the Green Gang...and the consensus was that you need to win NOW so need to put your best athletes in. Yes, there is a huge risk if your best players getting hurt on special teams...but we nobody can argue that we do need to win NOW!!!
-
...that if we lose against Army that it is all over (for Dodge, that is)? I mean, seriously...enough is enough...

Me and my brother...another NT grad...

Oh, yeah, sure.....but it is visibility into one's program...whether or not it is the whimsical musings of an ignorant person or not. The reality is...and we can all agree here...being on the Bottom 10 just is not a good thing.

No...no...sorry, I totally disagree with that. We just lost to a VERY bad Rice team. Does anyone honestly think we could get seven wins this season? So...we are gonna beat Troy? ULL just beat ASU (who I thought would spank us, btw) so I am not looking for us to beat them. Face it...the lowly SB has passed us by. We held on to a dud of a coach for too many years. Tired of the excuses. Tired of the "we are showing improvement". In Year 4 you WIN...you do not show improvement!!!! TD is finished here...

Seriously...I am SICK of hearing about Riley Dodge! I got jumped all over when I said he was too tender for Div I-A ball...well look at the results! Kid is WAAYYYY overrated...and his daddy cannot coach.
