Hard not to get excited about this basketball season. Interesting to hear C-USA coaches think so highly of Umoja Gibson and the impact his return could have on the season.

I would like to see us consistently win in all sports across the board. It would also be good to solidify ourselves with the best recruiting classes year in year out. Keep in mind it wasn’t that long ago when we were struggling a bit in recruiting. So for now I would like to see us become a major power in C-USA west and then take it from there.

HUNTINGTON — Commissioner Judy MacLeod thinks Conference USA men's basketball is better than the national perception and she wants it to get more respect. To achieve that, C-USA went with a unique scheduling format. "It's really just one of our strategic initiatives to improve basketball," MacLeod said in a Monday interview at the C-USA Basketball Tip-Off event in Frisco, Texas. "I know our basketball is better than what some perceive it to be. We've had great success in the NCAA Tournament. We had half our programs win 20-plus games last year." C-USA actually had six 20-game winners last season among its 14 members, but MacLeod's point was made. Of the six big winners, only Marshall University (25-11) got into the NCAA Tournament, the Thundering Herd receiving an automatic ticket as the conference tournament winner. read more: http://www.herald-dispatch.com/sports/marshall_sports/commissioner-c-usa-men-s-basketball-deserves-more-national-respect/article_75525469-731d-57af-8927-f49978ce91a1.html#utm_campaign=blox&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social

Taking a look at the Oline prospects for future
Harry replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
When people speak to the fact that we lose fine I get that, he's a once in a lifetime QB for sure. The difference now is we have some young talent beneath him. Jeremy Bean for instance could add a running option to the QB position that Fine didn't have. My point is the QB stable is so much deeper than in past regimes and this bodes well for the future of the offense. -
FRISCO — Conference USA media day felt completely different for North Texas men’s basketball coach Grant McCasland on Monday compared to his first time at the event a year ago. Back then, McCasland was just trying to teach the players he inherited from a downtrodden eight-win team coached by Tony Benford that playing hard was a vital part of winning games. The Mean Green are way beyond that point now. “I have talked to Roosevelt Smart a lot about it,” McCasland said of taking the next step as a program. “Our approach to winning can’t just be to play hard. That is the initial part of winning games. Not that we didn’t want to execute at a high level, but your execution better be elite when people know what’s coming.” Read more: https://www.dentonrc.com/sports/mccasland-mitchell-confident-at-c-usa-media-day/article_25d71fba-4cad-5c85-9c9c-0288c73a468f.html

Current ol on 2018 roster: https://meangreensports.com/roster.aspx?path=football&roster=25&sort=position RT/LT's Mayfield and Murray graduate after this season Jordan Redfearn true frosh - 6-3, 305 - not played at all to my knowledge; likely redshirting Jacob Brammer 6-4, 270 - has played some this season - redshirt freshman Sosaia Mose - 6-2, 301 redshirt junior; starter Chris Beckham - 6-5, 316 true freshman walk-on from LD Bell Ted Fausak - 6'4" 288 lbs - redshirt senior juco transfer - reserve Chad Hickson - 6-4, 281 redshirt soph transfer from Panhandle State Brendon Weatherspoon - 6-4, 289 redshirt freshman scholarship player who suffered injury from LD Bell Jevin Pahinui - 6-4, 290 redshirt senior who has had injuries and never played Thomas Preston 6-4, 282 junior who has played a lot in a reserve role - juco from Scottsdale Manase Mose 6-1, 294 redshirt frosh Euless - stud Cole Brown 6-4, 257 frosh Conroe HS - walkon Chandler Anthony 6-7. 299 redshirt soph from Tuttle OK - perhaps the hope at one of the tackle positions next season Elex Woodworth 6-4, 288 redshirt junior - starter and good player who will be back next season and could play tackle Daizon Carroll 6-2, 322 freshman Waco Midway - good size; has potential to help at guard 2019 verbal OL commits John Brunner - 6-5, 300 out of Brock Texas Daxton Buyers 6-5, 295 out of Tuttle OK Chris Cassidy 6-4, 275 out of Angleton, TX Thoughts: 14 coming back at the position off of the current roster - 5 appear to be preferred walk-ons. Scholarship number is 9 current and 3 in the 19 class assuming we stand pat making the count 12 scholarship OL for next season. I would not take too much stock in any of the 3 signees helping right away (in 2019) as you want to redshirt those guys if you possibly can and put on weight strength. The good news is the interior of the line is back and they appear to be pretty solid. Brammer and Woodworth appears to be possibilities to step in at tackle and perhaps Anthony. Preston seems versatile and solid contributor. The bad news is you lose your two starters at tackle and there is no guarantee that their replacements would be better or they might already be playing. Seems to me the biggest need area on this team with a weapon like Fine at QB is the OLine. Not sure that we can expect a step up necessarily without signing some juco transfers who could compete for starting spots and provide depth.

Wow that’s impressive!! -
Three things we learned from Conference USA in Week 8
Harry replied to Philip Ferguson's topic in Mean Green Football
As much as I hate to admit it you may well be right. I wonder if their heavy reliance on transfers last year is not hurting them a bit as well. -
I agree with the exception of UTSA. That is always a tough one to predict.

'17 OL Josh Donovan (College Station HS) [Verbal: TVCC]
Harry replied to GMG24's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Dang it - really could have used him next year. -
I think Jeff Wilson singlehandedly hid some of the major oline deficiencies we had in the oline last season. If there is a silver lining this season has revealed to us the issues we need to address to move the program to another level. That said, these issues are not unique to Littrell or this team. UNT and many other g5’s struggle to lure and develop top flight o-line and impact pass rushers. I am willing to give Uab credit for the win however, it is fair to state that they were given a SWEET deal in so far as how many juco and 4-year school transfers they could accumulate after shutting their program down and that needs to be looked at by the NCAA. How is it possible that a school can drop football and be this competitive so quickly in such a short time is problematic.

We have to address this position to be competitive in this conference. We created a monster in UAB now as they will be able to recruit better high school players.

game over. Tough loss. This hurts.
