  1. Houston said the running back group is one of the most talented they have. It sounds like they are replacing a very experienced QB this year similar to us so that will be challenging.
  2. Extremely excited about landing this kid for a lot of reasons. Great size and big arm plus he is a proven winner. It just doesn't get much better than that. I also wonder if him transferring schools didn't take him off some of the bigger school radars. This coaching and recruiting staff has been working hard and it is neat to see it payoff. GMG!

  4. Eric Morris was officially named as the 20th head coach of UNT football on December 13, 2023. That is 29 weeks or two hundred days ago. He has yet to coach a game but that will change in a couple of months. And yet there has still been a fair amount of analysis on how Morris has fared in terms of his short tenure, with a primary focus on recruiting. While many UNT football recruiting fan heads have been spinning with the advent of NIL and the Portal, Morris has put together a solid recruiting team that has had its share of success along with a normal amount of disappointment that was to be expected this early. The real tell on how good a recruiting class can be occurs years after the class is finalized. The recruiting databases, and school offers are typically the only data points we have. The recruiting services have never invested a lot of resources into analyzing borderline 3-star recruits and so you could argue that offer lists may be even more important. One aspect that could differentiate Morris from his predecessor in Seth Littrell could be how many of these classes and players inside these classes stick and stay with the program or leave, commonly referred to in the business world as attrition. Under Littrell, it was pretty bad. Just eyeing 2022, UNT showed twelve signees and nine transfers for a total of twenty-one. Of that total, six have already headed to the exits or 30 percent. Not to mention existing players who also have exited the portal, like Jyaire Shorter and Larry Nixon That 30% seems like a lot, but in this era of portal and NIL it will become a lot more commonplace. If Morris can keep that attrition down and lower the number of players entering the portal due to NIL, it could make a big difference for the program, but UNT will need to ramp up NIL funds to aid him in that regard. 5. OUTSTANDING NEWS> We are receiving confirmed reports that the new UNT stadium naming rights sponsor will be Denton-Area Teachers Credit Union (DATCU). This is reported to be a long term partnership that will be extremely beneficial to both parties. More to come! GMG LINK to the DATCU Story: https://www.datcu.org/More/Our-Story
  6. Impressive that we were able to get to the top with fairly mediocre results in football at best. From 2021 so it did not capture the NIT run and other things. A great story as we started somewhere in the middle of the pack. Things about to get a lot tougher in the AAC.
  7. Agreed! Won't be as hard to find games for fans in the future.

  11. Two of the 12 FBS coaches in Texas lost their jobs after the 2022 season when North Texas parted ways with Seth Littrell and Texas State moved on from Jake Spavital. Yearly turnover is the norm with that many programs, and the number grows to 13 in 2023 as Sam Houston moves up from the FCS ranks. Where do things stand heading into 2023? HOT SEAT Dana Holgorsen – Houston Wanting to play big-boy college football requires big-boy expectations. Holgorsen was hired after the 2018 season when Major Applewhite’s eight-win campaign wasn’t up to snuff. Holgorsen has only won more than eight games once in his four seasons in charge. On one hand, he led the team to a 12-win season in 2021 and is 20-7 over the last two years. On the other, a mass of offensive linemen left the program since the end of 2021, the star running back just entered the transfer portal, and the defense is waiting for key pieces to arrive in the transfer portal. A sub .500 finish in 2023 could spell doom. Mike Bloomgren – Rice Fair or not, Rice expects to be in bowl contention regularly and Bloomgren is only batting 20 percent in terms of achieving that goal. His Owls have reached one bowl game in his five seasons in charge, and that was last year with a 5-7 regular season record. He inherited a program in the basement and has increased its win total by one in each of his five seasons. Reaching six wins in 2023 earns more time, but the competition steps up in the AAC. Rice is arguably the toughest FBS job in the Lone Star State and Bloomgren’s reestablished the program in his tenure. read more: https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2023/05/10/texas-college-coaches-hot-seat-meter-2023-update?ref=article_preview_img

  16. The University of North Texas G. Brint Ryan College of Business saw its part-time Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) jump ahead of dozens of other universities across the nation to come in at No. 68 in the nation – and No. 6 among Texas public universities. View Full Article
  17. Take a look at the AAC 2023 football schedules and you will see some really interesting things going on, in particular with SMU. It is shocking how easy of a draw SMU has received in conference this season. To put this in perspective, in 2023, UNT will play Tulane (AAC conf champs) , UTSA (cusa conf champs), and UAB who is always tough no matter what. SMU on the other hand will NOT play Tulane, UAB, UTSA... instead they get Charlotte, Rice and ECU. Seems like SMU will be the favorite to win the AAC title next season before it even starts. Wonder how that happened?
  18. Pretty much but Ruder’s stock has gone up a lot from where it was in the past few months which is good news. I still think if they find a really good QB in the post spring portal they would consider taking him.
