  1. These are fair game and we are glad to state where we see things now. That said the final decisions are more likely to be answered after Fall camp starts. Two deep could change depending on what impact the new guys have.
  2. If Fine has not been injured we would have made it more of a game.
  3. It’s a recruiting podcast but we also tackle other subjects including this week realignment.
  4. “They realized late that they needed another defensive end. They reached out to my coaches and were wondering if I was still available."
  5. Looks like he played for Trinity International University in 2017: https://tiutrojans.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=2798
  6. I think @MeanGreenTexan is right if we can just have adequate tackle play we should be pretty decent.
  7. If this is so why does UTSA have a baseball team?
  8. Sow is not on the roster: https://meangreensports.com/roster.aspx?path=football&roster=148&sort=name
  9. I really like being able to attend away games and I know it helps recruiting to tell a kid that we will have games there in his hometown... it helps believe me. Having 4 schools in Texas is super sweet to me.. it ties us with the Big 12 in terms of being the conference with the most Texas schools. I also think that the C-USA 2.0 was built on the potential of certain programs, ie FIU, FAU, Old Dominion, UTSA etc.. I can see a nitemare scenario where we leave C-USA only to see it grow and reach higher levels of success. Then again maybe not. Here's the upside for Mountain West, we would give them the DFW market. Do we own DFW no, but they can use us being here to their recruiting and marketing advantage for sure. They have some great destination schools like Vegas, Reno, San Diego, Hawaii. From being at the bowl game in Dec I can attest to the fact that New Mexico has nice facilities and Albuquerque is a fun town. The downside will be our travel costs will go through the roof. Remember its not just football with 6 games a year its basketball, soccer etc... As far as budgets -- I think with the focus on student debt and tuition rising, schools like Tulsa and Tulane etc are going to have a harder time trying to justify spending so much money on athletics. But I also understand that the schools who pay their fair share want to be associated with others that do the same. Same goes for facilities.
  10. That's funny I was thinking the same thing. Of course I believe BYU was in the Mountain West at that time as well as some other programs who are no longer there. I am still pro-CUSA but more open to Mountain West than before.
  11. Here's some historical GMG discussions on this subject:
  12. If there is one thing I have learned through several renditions of the conference realignment is you don't use the fans anecdotes as gospel. I will admit I have not been interested in the Mountain West (at all) and would prefer being able to play Texas teams and have the option to travel to games. I like the current configuration of C-USA west and the teams in it. That said, it intrigued me that this sportswriter had caught wind of some North Texas interest from the Mountain West. These sportswriters like @Brett VitoVito all know one another and in my mind lend more credibility to rumors etc. Here's why - we see Colorado State recruiting here in Texas a lot as well as San Diego State, Utah State, New Mexico and heck even Boise from time to time. It would seem to me that it would be beneficial for them to be able to tell recruits and their families that they will have games in Texas. So let me state clearly, I am still supportive of C-USA West and would love to be in AAC with Houston and SMU/Tulsa etc. That said color me intrigued with Mountain West IF they would give us a Texas travel partner like Rice... here's the reality of that league from a travel perspective: Air Force (Colorado Springs) Boise State (Idaho) Colorado State (Fort Collins) Hawaii (Manoa) Nevada (Reno) New Mexico (Albuquerque) San Diego State San Jose UNLV (Vegas) Utah State (Logan) Wyoming (Laramie)
  13. NORTH TEXAS Pros: No C-USA school is doing a better job of investing in facilities than UNT, which has also earned some buzz as a future member of the Mountain West Conference. The football program is ascendant and it’s not inconceivable that UNT could work as a football-only member. Cons: The AAC already features SMU in the Dallas-Fort Worth market and there’s not much love between the two programs. Even with a beautiful football stadium and a winning team, attendance continues to lag for UNT football. The Mountain West Conference may be a better possibility down the road. read more: https://www.sunherald.com/sports/college/conference-usa/university-of-southern-mississippi/article231899688.html Read more here: https://www.sunherald.com/sports/college/conference-usa/university-of-southern-mississippi/article231899688.html#storylink=cpy

  15. Fewer than nine years after the Huskies played in the Fiesta Bowl, they’re waving the white flag on ever reaching such lofty heights again. They’re surrendering any hopes of eventually being invited to the ACC or the Big 12. They’re acknowledging that they have screwed up so bad the last half-decade in football that the only way they can save their athletic department is to cut and run from a conference that’s actually trying to compete with the big boys. Oh, sure, UConn football will go on in some form. That’s all to be sorted out, just collateral damage in a decision that’s entirely about basketball. Maybe someone like the Mid-American Conference or Conference USA will allow UConn to park its football program as a one-off, although it’s hard to see what value the Huskies would bring at this point. read more: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/1536302001
  16. Best replacement for UConn in AAC?
  17. Good for nUTSAck but key terms I see here are “planning” versus “funded” and “covered” versus “indoor”...
  18. Guy was listed as 6-3, 270 in high school so I guess it is possible. That 6-4, 253 must have been from his junior season... noted his Hudl from senior year highlights lists 6-3, 270. Here is some footage from him in high school -- how is it this kid only had one offer? Crazy... he was dominant! http://www.hudl.com/v/29FAUN
  19. Impressive prospect! Nice find @jdennis82
  20. I like him as a player. High nastiness factor on film.
