Re: Independent vs Conference#536665 By cruzan_flame13 - September 14th, 2017, 8:48 pm I see us going the route as Notre Dame did back a few decades ago. I'm not saying we will be identical to Notre Dame, especially the fact that the game isn't the same as it was. I do feel we will go the independent route for awhile and continue to contain great connections with other school AD's that are close with AD McCaw. At the same time I see this helping our Olympic sports and the blessings that we have in facilities. If we can get into a nice conference that is not football affiliated, I don't see the point of having football in a conference. If some reason the Big XII finally put aside their pride and add some other schools and then some how we can get a spot with the AAC, then I would think that LU might consider. Anything lower than the AAC in G5 terms is not worth it for football. Of course I would hope that LU would get an opportunity with the A-10 or Big East for their Olympic sports (hopefully they'll progress on a sufficient and discipline manner without any unlawful deals with student athletes/prospects). I really see LU getting very noticeable on an athletic level from now on. In conclusion, independent is the way to go since the crew can create great schedules for football(hopefully that will rub off on the other sports). read more: https://forums.aseaofred.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=25847

SMU is bringing in a LOT of p5 transfers similar to Houston. They will have the Texas QB Shane Buchele and other p5 talent at key positions. This is a completely different team compared to what we played last season. Last season they were breaking in a new coach and a new system.

HUDL film is impressive: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/8596613/5c189c078cd45e07ec21adc5 Looks like he was at Woodrow and is transferring into Madison (Dallas). Sort of under the radar but jumps out in the game film.

DRC breaking news: UNT finalizes deal with Littrell
Harry replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
“This is an unbelievable place,” Littrell said in the days leading up to spring practice. “It’s a great community and I am in my footprint close to home. We are also on the same page with our administration. The sky is the limit for North Texas because of the people who are in place here with our administration and fans.” -
I voted now please everyone else do the same!! GMG!

Q&A: Fine Discusses Manning Passing Academy
Harry replied to MGNation92's topic in Mean Green Football
So true. There will never be another Mason Fine at North Texas. He is one of a kind. -
Great article! The only thing I will nitpick is how the scouts miss Fine's greatest attribute - the speed of his release. He gets rid of the ball in a hurry which helps him against a pass rush and leaves defensive backs flat footed. I do appreciate the publication listing him as an NFL candidate. Thanks for posting this is was a good read.

Man it totally depends on how we fare leading into the Houston game. We will have a decent crowd for ACU. The UTSA game (wk 3) could be really good if we beat ACU and Smu in Big D. We also have Cal on the road which could be a toughie. We could be 4-0 or 1-3... Houston has OU (likely loss), Prairie View (sure win), The Pirate at Advocare in Houston (tough game) and Tulane on the road (could be tough!) prior to coming to Denton. Same deal for Cougars they could be 1-3 or 4-0. If we are both 3-1 and we have a loss to Cal and they OU we could still have a nice crowd for the game. Perhaps a sell out or close. If we are both 4-0 that game is a sell out! Houston game is as good a chance as we have had but a lot of it will depend on how big a crowd Houston brings.

UCONN's departure from the AAC... by peruna81 » Thu Jun 27, 2019 8:32 pm in other sports to go back to the Big East makes sense for them financially, but it is going to hang their football program in an interesting place if the AAC decides to push back. Can't be good overall for our current conference, and I am curious where this is headed long term. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse READ MORE: http://www.ponyfans.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=87211&sid=77eac46838fcf1da16b8c8692dd996c4#p1306084

It’s funny but in a way we play a partial AAC schedule this year with SMU and Houston... that makes 5 Texas teams, 6 if you count ACU. That’s a pretty damn nice schedule. Think about when we were in the Belt and had not one conference team in the state.

“There are only a few schools that probably make any sense at all,” he said Aresco. Aresco didn’t name names, but we can. Brigham Young? Attractive brand but so many headaches, pride among them. BYU isn’t joining a Group of 5 league, even if it deems itself the Power 6th. Boise State? Add Boise to a conference with Temple, UCF and South Florida and see how fast AAC non-revenue sports burn through their budgets. Army? Not sure AAC football member Navy would be crazy about this. North Texas? Mason Fine’s final season as UNT quarterback coincides with UConn’s final season in the AAC. Bummer. Http://www.tulsaworld.com/tncms/asset/editorial/47747039-f65c-50bc-82e7-0a93f00a7bd2
