  1. I get this sentiment and I also share it but I do think there is another side to this story that needs to be told. I know you to be a very knowledgeable fan so hear me out and let me know your thoughts. So you come to UNT, after many of the bigger more prestigious academic schools pass you over. UNT believes in you and gives you a shot. You make the most of it. You study your ass off and do well. You do great in school and heading into your senior year with numerous academic awards and scholarships/opportunities after graduation you decide to transfer to a bigger more prestigious school that passed you by the 1st time. You finish up at that school and become very successful in life. Your degree says that schools name, the school that originally passed you over but decide to jump back into the picture when it became beneficial for them to do so. All of your classmates who participated in your ascension academically are now questioning themselves and wondering should they too look for greener pastures? Why did he leave us? Do you see anything wrong with this picture? I know the common reply is we do the same thing but I don't think that makes it necessarily right.

  5. I think Joe Greene is a testament to the older generation -- my thinking is Fine could be someone the younger folks could embrace and know. The younger folks are our future. I agree there are plenty of guys that could be recognized and are deserving. The Fine story is so emblematic of North Texas, the underdog that had to prove himself against all odds.
  6. My thinking is it will be similar to what they did with the Mean Joe Greene statue, but on the student side. Thoughts?
  7. As Holtz has studied film on the Mean Green, who have had a disappointing 2019 up to this point, what he’s seen hasn’t surprised him. And it doesn’t cause a fiery response. For the Louisiana Tech head coach, it’s the same concern that comes each season matching up with North Texas. “They’re everything I thought they’d be,” Holtz said. Saying the 2019 season has not been smooth for North Texas, the preseason favorites to win the Conference USA West division, may be a bit of an understatement. With plentiful starters back from last year headlined by senior quarterback Mason Fine, the Mean Green had their sights set on their second conference championship game appearance in three years. read more: https://www.thenewsstar.com/story/sports/college/louisiana-tech/2019/11/05/la-tech-football-expects-north-texas-best-shot/4159061002/
  8. I think the shocker for me was Bell came on so strong. Kid can play. I was expecting al little more from the other new guys. Geu only getting 2 boards is concerning and Mohammed isn't going to help much underneath as he is lean. It's just one game but the concerning thing for me is that we don't appear to have added a quality big guy that can work the glass and sub out good minutes for Zach so he isn't playing all game. You need that against Bassey and the good bigs on the schedule...

  10. Don't forget Kuehne waiting in the wings as well. Monumental battle this spring.
  11. Grant's comp is $650K. He has a $500K salary and $150,000 in Retention, Radio, TV, Official and Other Appearance stipends. Great resource here for finding out comp for hoops coaches: https://www.midmajormadness.com/2019/11/4/20946421/ncaa-basketball-head-coach-contract-salary-database-mid-major-2019-20?utm_campaign=midmajormadness&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter Comparison: Steve Henson at UTSA makes $325K and receives a minimum of $50,000 but up to $100,000 in supplemental compensation for media appearances. Receives $1,500 for a win over a Power 5 program. Receives $12,000 for each year attendance is greater than 1,000 per game. Receives $5,000 for each season the student attendance is greater than 500 per game.
  12. 42 yards on 4 carries against UTEP and I like his size in short yardage. I think we are in pretty good shape on O at the skill position just need immediate help on the line. Defense is another story altogether. Here's the box score in case you missed it: https://meangreensports.com/boxscore.aspx?id=4252
  13. Shorter is a play maker!
  14. TOUCHDOWN DARDEN! 7-0 UNT lead!
  15. It looks to me like it is the question of G5 Program recruiting philosophy. Do you recruit to "Culture" or do you recruit best talent available to win. SMU has gone out and gotten great talent and focused their attention on the model of getting great athletes from the DFW area and Texas who went to P5 programs to transfer in. North Texas has focused on getting great high school players who best fit the culture that has been developed by Coach Littrell. Sonny scoured the transfer market for the best talent he could put on the field right away. Holgerson has adopted the same philospohy at Houston. I have not studied Boise, UCF and other elite G5's but I sense that the transfer / juco player fits into their recruiting philospohy as well. In a perfect world, you would do all of your recruiting out of local and state high schools but this SMU season has clearly illustrated that formula may work well for the G5 schools. Here's the issue for SMU is what happens after Buchele graduates? Does he make the transfer methodology work so well? It's too early to say but I think we would all agree he is a helluva player. I think we need to study what is going on at places like La. Tech who have less resources yet consistently put together good talent and winning teams at the C-USA level. We need to make data driven decisions in recruiting and I think culture can be a difficult measurement to gauge.
  16. I like Mooney. Is he Cole Hedlund? no. Is he Trevor Moore - hell no. That said, he is only a soph and he has had some nice moments this season.
