Good question, my thought is we may have some who want to donate but not play and they could help offset the costs. I will throw this out to the sponsors and see what we can do. The other idea, is if you have a business you could look at sponsoring players or for advertising like sponsoring a hole etc... perhaps you may be able to write it off as a business expense. The money we raised last year was great but we are needing to replenish to help support this new class. The tourney is a great way to do that and they have been very successful doing this at other programs. I think everyone is going to be VERY pleased at this new group of players and our getting behind this event will help keep the momentum going. Thanks for your support! GMG

To Our Most Passionate Supporters, I hope everyone had a great summer. We finished up our eight-week summer training and I am thrilled with our progress. Our guys worked extremely hard in the weight room and on the court. Off the floor, they are meshing nicely as several new faces have arrived in Denton. We just started back with fall classes and can’t wait to get back to work. You will love this team. Thank you for your amazing support of UNT and our basketball program. Due to your generosity, we are able to compete on a national level in recruiting and on the court. Your contributions to our players Name Image and Likeness (NIL) initiatives and other specific giving initiatives are game changers for us. I would like to ask your support of a golf outing/NIL event our players are hosting on September 30th at Denton County Country Club. I also will be there and we would love to see you. Per NCAA rules, an outside entity is coordinating the event and not UNT, but my staff is allowed to promote and appear at the event. The same company operating this event did the same thing at Gonzaga, Arizona and Houston recently. You will be contacted soon about your interest in participating and the details on the outing. THIS helps us win. THIS helps us recruit. GMG! Ross Hodge DIRECT LINK TO GOLF TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION: https://www.campiosports.com/register-motg

Agree that 30 is more reasonable from where we have been. We have had one of the worst defenses in the NCAA, 131st out of 133, 2 places out of dead last. Sound like a broken record every year saying this, but this South Alabama opening will really give us a better idea of where this defense is, at least talent wise. It is going to take them time to gel with so many new faces.

Agreed. I don't think anyone has questioned Morris' ability as a QB. His durability seems to be what most are concerned with. Looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Classy move of Johnny to allow our Bleed Green squad to practice at his TSU facilities prior to the game tonight in Houston. Should be a fun game tonight. Go Bleed Green!

The Mean Green Collective (MGC) has a primary focus on UNT basketball (both men's and women's). That said, if a donor wants to direct resources to other sports, we 100% will make that happen. Ernie Kuehne, Curtis Clinesmith and I are UNT alums who run the MGC and 100% of every dollar we receive goes to the players except for online banking transaction fees which allow our fans to donate simply and securely. We 100% self-fund the administration of this Collective and have 0% overhead. The other collective is Light the Tower, which was originally started by RV and is now being run by a group called TheLinkU. Light the Tower does primarily football but also other sports for UNT. I believe they are being run by University of Houston graduates and to my understanding they charge 20% of every dollar donated to their administration. Light the Tower or TheLinkU represents in some capacity the following schools: University of Houston, College of Charleston, Florida Atlantic, Texas State, UCLA, and South Alabama. TheLinkU appears to be an NIL aggregator and the more schools they can add to their group the more potential money they can make. I have not seen any aggregate numbers in terms of specific dollars raised for UNT players through this organization. We started the MGC back in Oct of last year and we were able to raise $225K in both large and small donations which had not been done at UNT before. We have distributed $200K of those funds as of today. We are proud of that, and we appreciate every donor who has and continues to support the MGC. As Ross Hodge shared with us just a couple of weeks ago, we would not have landed the new class of players without the MGC funding that was provided. That said, despite all the recent success UNT has had in basketball, it has still proven difficult to raise money in this NIL/Portal environment. The funny thing is, we run an NIL, and we really don't like the NIL system and what it is doing to college athletics. What was supposed to be a way to support the players and their families has become a pay-for-play scheme that the richest schools primarily benefit from. Despite our fundraising efforts, we could not compete with players receiving 600K, 400K, 150K... I don't blame them for taking that kind of life-changing money and I wish them well. The program will move forward and continue. I think Ross Hodge is a good coach and I am excited to see the new team he is building. Jason Burton is a big-time coach for women's basketball, and we expect him to do some remarkable things very quickly. Our efforts did, however, help us land an extremely competitive replacement group that some prognosticators believe could better position us in the coming season. So, the money we raised and provided for the players was not for naught. The NIL landscape has changed quite a bit since we started this, and I expect it will continue to evolve. Thanks to everyone who has and continues to support us and GMG!

Mean Green Collective is Making a Difference
Harry replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Thank you, good question and we very much appreciate your donation and support @Hunter Green. The Mean Green Collective focuses on men's and women's basketball. My understanding is the other collective is for football. Our collective is very lean by design and is 100% self-funding our administration. While other collectives charge up to 20% or more for admin costs, we are doing our best to get as much money to the players as possible. Our Collective is run by UNT alumni and fans who truly bleed green, we are not doing this to make money. To the many others on here who have supported our cause like @Hunter Green we can't thank you enough. Your support is making a difference in the lives of these student athletes. GMG! -

We are all so very proud tonight of our Mean Green ladies and their outstanding win to secure a coveted inaugural AAC Championship! Also, a huge shout out to Coach Jason Burton and his assistants who did a fantastic job coaching this team! Credit to AD Jared Mosley and his staff as well as they have provided a great support structure for this program. The future is so very bright! I am also proud of what we have been able to accomplish in about 5 whirlwind months with the Mean Green Collective. We have been able to donate $191K (cash not pledges) to both the men's and women's programs. We could not have done this without the support of so many of you and we appreciate every donor that stepped up to help us. 🙏 The future is extremely bright for Mean Green Basketball and we want to help support the teams in reaching their full potential both on and off the court. The road ahead does not get any easier for us as we will have other teams coming after our players and we need to raise more money to keep them here as well as attract others. If you would like to be a part, we could use your help. Please join us at MeanGreenCollective.com. Thank you again for your support and GO MEAN GREEN!
