  1. There is no doubt that Littrell taking this program to a bowl game last year, after a one-win disaster in 2015 was a great accomplishment. In fact, for many programs, you might see an even stronger sense of momentum on the back of this sea change. Don't get me wrong, I think many of our die hards realize how much things have changed and what a great game coach Littrell appears to be. The problem as I see it is some of our fan base is hesitant to jump all in at this particular time. I was scratching my head as to why and I believe the 2013 season under Mac is the main culprit. 2013 was our first year in a new conference (C-USA) and after 2 losing seasons under Mac we were treated to an amazing 9-4 winning bowl year. many including myself believed that Mac had finally turned a corner with the program. As we all know that season turned out to be more of an enigma or outlier than anything else. In 2014 Mac went 4-8, and of course the meltdown in 2015 where Mac went 0-5 was of epic proportions. So, I don't put too much stock in the current perception of the football program at UNT. It is going to take time and consistent wins to get this thing back on track. This should not cause discouragement from either Littrell, Wren or their respective staffs. When you combine that with the extremely long off season we have without baseball and it can seem fairly quiet.
  2. Good news and this was a position of need. ACU's conference has some talent so good to know he is battle tested.
  3. Secondary. Could be the best unit in the conference.
  4. No. 99: North Texas It didn't take long for first-year head coach Seth Littrell to bring optimism and excitement back to North Texas. Just one year after going 1-11, the Mean Green have returned to Conference USA relevance. 2016 Record: 5-8 (3-5, Conference USA) For just the third time since 2004, North Texas won five games in a season. It was a dramatic turnaround for a program that couldn't move the ball or stop opponents from doing so a year earlier. While their three conference wins came against teams that won a combined 10 games, and Army was their only victory over a team with a winning record, the Mean Green were much improved. Head Coach: Seth Littrell (2nd year, 5-8 overall) North Texas clearly liked what they saw from Littrell in his first season; in February, he received a five-year extension that keeps him under control through 2021. The former Oklahoma running back and North Carolina assistant head coach began revamping an offense that ranked 115th or worse in total yards per game, passing yards per game, completion percentage and points per game. The offense still struggled, four times scoring 17 or fewer points, but they raised the completion percentage nearly 12 points and averaged 28 more yards and nine points more per game. His staff was gashed by losses. Three assistants, including co-defensive coordinator Mike Ezelker (to Littrell's former boss Larry Fedora at North Carolina), left for Power Five jobs. "It's a good sign that people want our coaches," Littrell said this offseason. "We have great coaches who will do a good job." read more: http://herosports.com/college-football-100/north-texas-football-preview-ahah
  5. Good update CJ! Thank you!
  6. Guys and gals I am very proudly of how this conversation has allowed differing viewpoints without decaying into personal attacks and stone throwing. This is good, rational discourse and what we hope that the Nest will allow for in the future. Thanks and please carry on.
  7. Interesting although I can't confirm.
  8. Good stuff. Very good move by the conference.
  9. I think you are dead on. I read that they intend to add 6000 seats to their 21,500 capacity stadium. Old Dominion will help them fill it up and in their mind give them a winnable game in front of the home crowd. They hired Turner Gill and Ian McCaw the Baylor AD. They have a clear plan and tons of money. I would not be shocked to see them join C-USA at some point in the future as they have the type of budget and resources you can't ignore.
  10. Wren knows the low hanging fruit for UNT is selling out Apogee for the 1st time. The closest we have come to doing that was the opener against Houston. Don't kid yourself, having that occur under Wren's watch would be a huge accomplishment for us and for him professionally. My guess is that he is trying to get in an opponent who has the ability to sell Apogee out for the first time. Maybe Oklahoma State or Texas Tech? The usual critics will step in and say "we should sell it out with our fans only.." but you have to take baby steps to get to that point. Not selling out Apogee was a big issue for RV and I really think he underestimated how difficult it would be to do so. He also did not schedule the type of team that would help us make it happen. He wanted to get revenue out of every inch in the stadium and I think he could have been more strategic with his ticketing in the Wing zone.
  11. Disappointing news for sure. Best wishes to him at OU.
  12. Let me tell you their schedule is being built on games against teams they believe they have a decent shot of beating. We will see how it plays out but this could be a very challenging series for us. Their program is moving upward very rapidly.
  13. Wow beautiful brand new looking stadium with amazing views of mountains. Big video screen. I gotta say I was impressed.
  14. I am still scratching my head on this deal and specifically what role Coach Terry has in it. Feel like we need a flowchart or something to understand this.
  15. President Trump is about to speak at the Liberty graduation ceremony and it is being carried by many of the major TV news stations this morning. It appears to be taking place in their sports facility which is on campus.
  16. Memphis: Head coach Mike Norvell has signed a 1-year extension with a “significant” salary bump for assistants, according to SI’s Pete Thamel. Norvell originally inked a 5-year deal that paid him $1.8 million in 2016 before leading the Tigers to an 8-5 mark in his first year on the job. Memphis paid Norvell’s assistants $2.15 million in ’16, sixth-most among AAC public schools according to USA Today. read more: http://footballscoop.com/the-scoop/
  17. I echo this. His family is very loyal to UNT and has been for many years.
  18. semi highjack but it appears that Liberty is signing a lot of juco talent... here is the latest:
  19. Agreed. But if it ultimately helps us land a winnable p5 game home + home AND helps us get Apogee to finally sell out I'm game...
  20. It's pretty clear that he has reopened his recruiting.
