North Texas picked up a pretty nice commitment in Manvel quarterback Kason Martin. Martin is a hidden gem and highly productive player for a 5A Power. We hate relying on highlight film to do any sort of evaluation because...well, it's highlight film. It can be instructive in a couple areas. One, you can't hide a bad arm on a highlight reel. Two, you generally get a good idea of how a player rates from an athletic standpoint. Finally, you tend to get an idea of what a player was asked to do in his high school system and how well or poorly that translates to the next level. You can see his junior highlight reel, here. A few observations: read more: https://swcroundup.com/news/2017/6/20/wednesday-playcard?utm_content=buffere4c18&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

At the time we built it was small but nice. It was a lot better than what we had before. People need to understand, the university ignored facilities for so long it was becoming dangerous. So when we finally updated the athletic center and stadium everyone thought we were home free. Actually we were just catching up from years of neglect. That said, it's not just the size that matters, it's how you utilize the equipment and resources you have.

DRC: UNT unveils upgrades to Kuehne facility (slide show)

THANK YOU ERNIE!!! GMG! -
We don't need Litttell to be a great recruiter. We just need him to hire coaches that can. Who is the recruiting lead on this staff right now? Does Littrell have the recruiting support he and the program needs?

Solid post. You raise some valid points here.

Lincoln Riley may look to UNT's Graham Harrell as OU QB Coach
Harry replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I would take it as a compliment as well. -
Respectfully we've been down this road before. You need to recruit AND develop talent. Our fan base uses "coaching up" as a shield defense for our ongoing concerns on recruiting issues. Dan McCarney was a big advocate of this mentality. We saw how well it worked out for him. If you want to move this program forward you have to start winning these battles against other G5 programs. Period. Littrell's "coaching up" may not be here for very long. His name is already coming up for p5 jobs. The players we sign will be the foundation of the program for 4-5 years. Plus recruiting success helps build interest and excitement in the program. You absolutely have the right to support the program and and hope for success while still voicing your concern over recruiting results.

'18 RB Devonte Lee (John Marshall - OKC)

He is impressive on film as well. -
If Riley were to move either Gundy or Bedenbaugh to offensive coordinator, he may also add a quarterbacks coach. A name to keep an eye on would be Graham Harrell, who Riley coached at Texas Tech, and is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks' coach at North Texas. read more: http://www.oudaily.com/sports/oklahoma-football-lincoln-riley-looking-to-potentially-add-help/article_05b7af9e-4d14-11e7-b6bd-ff2659c2bea4.html

Summer camp has Jacob Medrano rolling again. The Muskogee senior quarterback’s off-season wasn’t one of constant drills. He spent it on the tennis court. Since then, there’s been the two weeks of work in May and a couple of camps, one at former Rougher Seth Littrell’s camp at North Texas and the other at the University of Memphis, and the start of passing league. No one’s complaining that he lost much of anything on the tennis court, where he was part of the seventh-place No. 1 doubles team at state in a sport he once confessed he took up just to be out of school for tournaments. “I didn’t harp on him about staying in football,” said his father and the team’s offensive coordinator, Jason Medrano. “He’s got to take those short, choppy steps, he’s got to keep his feet moving and I think that correlates perfectly with tennis. His arm isn’t in the same natural motion in tennis but he’s keeping his arm active and we don’t have to spend a lot of time getting it back into throwing shape.” Even as a first-year starter, Jacob Medrano knew the position well. His father coached him through youth football. But his confidence grew in what was a 9-2 campaign that brought Muskogee its first district championship since 1989. He threw for 2,516 yards and 21 touchdowns and had just one interception until the semifinal loss to Lawton where he had three, two of which were caused by route busts, in a 35-28 loss. “His leadership, I couldn’t have asked for more from him,” said Muskogee head coach Rafe Watkins. “His touchdowns to interceptions ratio was just exceptional. He executed well and made good decisions. He had a good year in everything he did and I anticipate it to be the same going forward.” Both father and son look at the wins against Bixby and Stillwater and even the loss against Sand Springs, where Jacob guided the team to a late go-ahead touchdown before the Sandites rallied to win with a touchdown and bizarre two-point conversion, in molding that success. He also rallied the offense after Stillwater jumped out early in the first-round playoff encounter. read more: http://www.muskogeephoenix.com/sports/summer-seasoning-camps-help-get-muskogee-qb-back-in-groove/article_ed5b8430-524e-11e7-a427-dfb1d046651f.html

Arizona State has appeared to fire a warning shot in the direction of head football coach Todd Graham. Jeff Metcalfe of The Arizona reports....possible replacements include: SETH LITTRELL Current Position: Head Coach, North Texas Like Mike Norvell, Seth Littrell has rocketed up the coaching ranks in the last decade. The former Oklahoma running back was offensive coordinator at Arizona and Indiana, and associate head coach at North Carolina before taking the North Texas job last year. The Mean Green went just 5-8 last year and still may be couple years away from challenging for a Conference USA championship. However, it wouldn't be the least bit surprising to see the 38-year-old field Power Five calls after a strong 2017 season. read more: http://m.herosports.com/college-football/todd-graham-arizona-state-hot-seat-candidates-ahah

The University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law received provisional accreditation from the American Bar Association on June 3, less than a year after it was denied such accreditation. The approval comes at an opportune moment for the law school’s inaugural class. The 74 graduates who participated in the first Juris Doctor hooding ceremony on May 20, will now be considered graduates of an ABA-accredited law school when their degrees are conferred later this month. Most importantly, those graduates will be eligible to sit for the July 2017 Texas Bar Exam. “Our goal has always been to equip graduates with practice-ready competencies and the practical knowledge to pass the Texas Bar Exam,” said Royal Furgeson, founding Dean and President of UNT Dallas College of Law. “We now have a clear path to demonstrate that the innovative curriculum and the resources we’ve established will support exactly that kind of success.” The provisional accreditation is a big victory for the state school, but comes with some compromises. In August, the accreditation committee denied approval due to concerns with the school’s low admission standards and uncertain financial future. UNT Dallas had deemphasized LSAT scores in the admissions process in an effort to attract a more diverse student body. But to get accreditation, it had raise its LSAT profile. The law school elevated the 25th percentile LSAT score from 143 to 147 by requiring a supermajority of its admissions committee to approve admission for any students who scored less than 142 on the LSAT. The UNT Dallas Board of Regents also stepped in to support the law school, bolstering its financial reserves from $3 million to $6 million, Furgeson said. “The ABA process has strengthened our law school and made us a better law school,” Furgeson said. “The first rejection was challenging to work through, but it highlighted our weaknesses, and we made adjustments to make us better.” read more: http://www.nationaljurist.com/national-jurist-magazine/unt-dallas-gets-aba-accreditation-after-raising-lsat-scores

WAXAHACHIE — A Texas High School Football Hall of Fame coach with three state championship rings will soon help lead the offensive unit of the Southwestern Assemblies of God University football team. The university announced the hiring of Sam Harrell as the new SAGU offensive coordinator late Tuesday evening. Harrell formerly led the Ennis Lions from 1994-2009, during which the program won three 4A state championships. After medical issues sidelined the coach for several years, he has since returned to the coaching scene to serve as the quarterbacks’ coach and offensive coordinator at Fort Worth Christian High School. The Cardinals won a TAPPS 4A state championship in 2015. According to the SAGU announcement, Harrell went 153-51 with the Lions, which included state championships in 2000, 01 and 04, as well as state semifinal appearances in 1999 and 2003. The Lions also appeared in the playoffs for 11 consecutive years and had nine straight seasons of 10 wins or more. “Coach Harrell has an incredible resume and is an unbelievable football coach,” stated SAGU Head Coach Frank Tristan in the SAGU announcement. “But more impressive than his resume is his character and integrity as a man of God. Our program and institution will be better because Sam Harrell is part of it.” read more: http://www.waxahachietx.com/news/20170523/sam-harrell-tabbed-to-lead-offense-of-southwestern-assemblies-of-god-football-program

My guess is this kid will bring 10-20 local fans to every game. We need more of these. Glad to have him and his family on board.

Growing up Green Despite being born in Austin, Jerod is as true a Dentonite as there ever was, with many of his childhood memories being formed around the UNT campus. He remembers watching Fourth of July fireworks outside his father’s office in Chilton Hall every summer, followed by autumn Saturdays at Fouts Field cheering on the Mean Green. “We’d always have season tickets to football, so I grew up going to games at Fouts Field in the days when they would throw tortillas on the field and all that,” says Jerod. “It was a good time growing up in this community, for sure.” Athletics have always played a big role in the Fritsch family. Cheryl was an All-Southland Conference softball player at Sam Houston State, where the couple met, and although Eric’s basketball career ended in high school, he’s always been a passionate football fan, admitting he even tunes in to the Tuesday night college games that “probably nobody else watches.” So it should be no surprise that Jerod developed a love for football as well, going on to play for the Guyer High School football team that won back-to-back Texas Class 4A State Championships in 2012 and 2013, finishing with a combined record of 30-3 through his two varsity seasons. And as an all-district and all-area first-team selection at 6-foot-5-inches tall and 250 pounds, Jerod had plenty of collegiate options to choose from. read more: http://hps.unt.edu/giving-mean-green-family-new-meaning

At the University of North Texas, whose $5,516 price ranked second highest, slightly more than 10 percent of undergraduates have taken advantage of its flat-rate plan, which included higher tuition to help the university pursue its goal of becoming a top-tier research institution, said Bob Brown, vice president for finance and administration. http://www.mystatesman.com/news/state--regional-govt--politics/one-ranking-happy-not-highest-texas-tuition-fees/effS7djtcnK1PYCdn74mbK/
