  1. Prayers for all impacted. This thing is treacherous and far from over. Small potatoes in comparison of course but after reviewing Emmitt's photos, I'm starting to wonder if this Lamar game will even happen...
  2. "Mean Green vs. Golden Arches" is about a developing land dispute between McDonald's and the University of North Texas. It seems both of them want to own a 1-acre parcel of land at the intersection of North Texas Boulevard and the Interstate 35E service road. The story provides a classic case for why UNT needs a regent who lives in Denton. More on that later in this editorial. Old-timers will remember when an Exxon station, a McDonald's and an IHOP were all crowded next to one another. The project to widen the interstate came along and the Texas Department of Transportation aquired a chunk of the property. The Exxon and the McDonald's shut down and were razed. The IHOP is still operating. UNT owns the surrounding property and wants the parcel in question for an as-yet undisclosed building project. McDonald's, with support from IHOP, is working on a deal to rebuild its restaurant at that location. UNT is an arm of the state of Texas. As such, it wields the power of eminent domain, meaning it can force condemnation of the IHOP/McDonald's property if the parties cannot reach a negotiated sale. This newspaper does not like to see UNT throwing its weight around in a way that some observers might see as bullying. With that said, we believe it's important for the university to present a visually striking gateway to its campus that can be seen from the highway. read more: http://www.dentonrc.com/opinion/editorial/2017/08/27/unts-land-plan-needs-local-input
  3. Stanford takes it 80 yards on a standard off tackle run play on the very 1st play from scrimmage. Bad start for Owls. Stanford 7-0 in like one minute.
  4. Watching game right now #19 USF up 21-16. Closer than I thought. Weird seeing Charlie Strong on the sidelines. Man if you thought we had attendance issues.... it's embarrasssing for San Jose.
  5. That's not as bad as it could have been. Need to work on their O it sounds like.
  6. I'm interested to see what type of player this kid turns out to be. His success could really help us in Denton. our inability to tie into Denton talent has always perplexed me. The story Inhave always gotten is that it's that players want to get out of their hometown and UNT'd proximity is a negative. I don't buy that. I think under Mac and with coaches before him we got into a pissing match and walked away. My hope is that Littrell will cultivate Denton pipelines. There is so much talent there and other outlying communities.
  7. How they looking?
  8. Long shot I know but hope they make a good showing for the conference. 9pm game. Football is here!
  9. He can flat out play.
  10. Man that's great!
  11. Is it just me or are they obsessed with outdoing us? For the life of me I never understand why Mac didn't give a $hit about them and put no emphasis into the game. Not sure that Littrell does either. Fans and alumni sure do.
  12. I haven't watched one on FBook but I did see a game on Twitter and it was really high quality.
  13. Pretty cool in my opinion. ESPN had it's day in the sun. I am ready to have more competition for these games. It will bring more innovation and different perspectives. It will also help C-USA land more lucrative deals.
  14. No we haven't been able to find an app to work with the new software yet and coding it would be a biatch. Still working on it for the future but unlikely to happen this year.
  15. There is also some fun tailgating over on the west side of the stadium:
  16. There is also a group that camps out the night before the 1st game and spends the night. Tony fertilizes and puts ant killer on his tailgating spot prior to the season: There is also tailgating on The Hill, primarily Fraternities and Sororities but also families and other groups:
  17. DENTON -- Seth Littrell came to North Texas a year ago with a national reputation as an offensive guru and vowed to "tee it high and let it fly." The path UNT's head coach took to reach that goal seemed a little unconventional, to say the least. Littrell had been on the job just a few days when he handed his offense over to Graham Harrell, a Texas high school and college football legend with a short coaching résumé. Littrell's decision to hire an old friend as his offensive coordinator and play-caller resulted in a few bumpy moments, but it paid dividends overall. UNT will head into the second year of the Littrell era off a turnaround season that came largely out of the chemistry the pair have developed together -- and with their players. "Those two guys have a great relationship," UNT quarterback Mason Fine said. "Coach Littrell respects what Coach Harrell is trying to do. And Coach Harrell will bounce ideas off Littrell. Their attitudes complement each other. Coach Littrell is more laid-back, while Coach Harrell is always yelling. I am very comfortable with both those guys." read more: https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/collegesports/2017/08/22/tandem-seth-littrell-graham-harrell-getting-unt-football-back-track
  18. Hi there -- here is a link to our annual tag your tailgating thread put together by @UNT 90 Grad: Here is a direct link to the google map where some of our fan tailgates are mapped: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=201091365063211794234.0004e1e616fa14ccb41aa I hang out at "Tony's GoMeanGreen.com Tailgate" and our group would love to have you join us, but there are many great ones you can visit, and honestly all of them that I know would welcome you with open arms. I am sure that Tony will be posting more info closer to game day.
  19. Let's be honest, UNT did not always support the program to the level they are today. They were doing just enough to be able to say they had a program and reap the positive aspects of marketing etc. I see much of this occurring during the Hurley regime. Yes a move was made to I-A but that was done on the cheap, building crappy metal bleachers to meet the attendance requirements. Other than that not much else was invested. At the time you got caught up in the move to I-A hoping it would lead to bigger things. In hindsight you realize that it was a shell game, smoke and mirrors and had little chance of much success. During the Pohl administration I think they really actually started to realize that it would take investment. You saw Gene Stallings come in and give his assessment. You saw the move to the Belt which was the best we could do and did give us access to a bowl game. You had 4 straight bowl years under Dickey which were a great step but we could not beat or compete with an out of conference opponent to save our lives. That diminished the value of those bowls in the eyes of our fans in my opinion. I do believe the bowls and success gave us just enough push to make much needed facilities a reality however and for that I am eternally grateful. Next you had the Gretchen B/Dodge years where we were able to finally get the athletic center and stadium finalized. Wow - huge step forward for UNT historically, but when compared to other similar sized programs we were just playing catch-up. I think many of us fell prey to the belief that the facilities would change the game when in reality it was something that we should have done a long time ago. Rawlins shows up and the facilities combined with our location gives us a spot in C-USA which was the best conference we had been in since Fry. I marked 2011 as the first time that UNT was really in this deal. Prior to that, our coaches were woefully underpaid and we played in a dilapidated stadium, sub-par facilities etc. We paid Mac decent money and allowed him to pay his assistants. We had a nice stadium and decent facilities. Mac looks like the guy, then has major health issues and other than a terrific 2013 season things go downhill in recruiting and on the field. But at least starting in 2011 we had a fighting shot. Fast forward to now (2017), and we have highly thought of coaches and assistants who are well compensated. We make buy-outs to get the guys like McCasland that we need. We identify issues in our facilities and set goals to get them repaired or in place. We have a very highly thought of AD who has a track record of success. So in my mind, we are well above where we were in 2011 which was the high water mark in my years of following football. We have all the pieces in place to be successful in this conference. Will it be easy? Hell no. Every school in C-USA is throwing major resources at their sports programs. Heck, UTSA just announced the matched our salary for Litrell paying Wilson $900K. But even with that being said, we are well positioned to have success in this league now versus underfunding the program in past years and hoping for the best. So in that particular regard, I do agree with Vito that there is a lot of excitement and optimism around UNT these days and for good reason.
  20. @Brett Vito are you out there? Is everything ok? Are you being held hostage?
  21. Good player. Long shot for us but good that we took a shot.
