Pick a prominent college football program — in any conference in any part of the country — and there is a good chance it has extended a scholarship offer to Tommy Bush.
Alabama, Florida State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas are among those courting Clemens’ talented wide receiver, who has a total of 44 offers. Bush has yet to commit to any of them, even though they are encouraging him to make a binding decision by December.
This year, for the first time, high school seniors can sign national letters of intent in late December instead of waiting until the traditional signing period in early February.
But Bush, who is 6-foot-5, 195 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds, is in no hurry. He knows some of his suitors will have coaching changes toward the end of the season or shortly thereafter, a time frame that coincides with the early signing period set for Dec. 20-22.
And although he can play for just about any college he wants, more offers could still come along.
“That’s why we just want to wait it out and make sure it’s 100 percent set,” Bush said. “I’m most likely not going to sign in December.”
