  1. Good update! Thank you for sharing this good news.
  2. That was a huge play at a key point in the game. I think he will have a lot more play opportunities now that everyone we play will load up on Guyton.
  3. Creighton Barr is my adopted player and I could not be more proud of him and his performance against Southern Miss.
  4. North Texas caught wind of an eyebrow-raising ESPN ad promoting this weekend’s clash between Big Ten rivals Michigan and Michigan State. In the ad, Michigan State was referred to as the “Mean Green.” Shortly after criticism of the ad began going viral on social media, North Texas athletic director Wren Baker fired off a tweet saying he will be sending a cease-and-desist letter to the Worldwide Leader. North Texas owns the trademark to the nickname, and has for a “very, very long time.” read more: https://campussports.net/2017/10/04/north-texas-sends-cease-desist-letter-to-espn-for-using-mean-green/
  5. A television ad for this Saturday's Michigan-Michigan State showdown refers to the Spartans as "Mean Green." An athletic director in Texas isn't happy about that. Wren Baker, the athletic director at North Texas, tweeted on Tuesday night that he's sending Michigan State and ESPN a cease and desist letter over what he calls the unauthorized usage of a trademarked nickname. North Texas says it has been using the moniker for its athletic teams since the 1960's, when its defensive line featured future NFL Hall of Famer Joe Greene. Baker told USA Today on Tuesday night that the school's attorneys planned on sending letters to Michigan State and ESPN on Wednesday morning. He also referenced a basketball game last year, when Michigan State wore lime green uniforms that were referred to as "Mean Green Hyper Elite." According to a Michigan State spokesperson, Spartans athletic director Mark Hollis reached out to Baker on Wednesday morning "expressing MSU's and the athletic department's awareness of the importance of the trademark, and assuring him that we would not intentionally intrude upon its connection to North Texas." read more: http://www.mlive.com/spartans/index.ssf/2017/10/north_texas_upset_over_tv_ad_t.html
  6. LANSING -- Michigan State University may have a new rival this week as its football team prepares for Saturday's game at the University of Michigan. A University of North Texas athletic department official accuses MSU and ESPN of stealing its school's trademarked words "#MeanGreen." Message left Wednesday morning by the Lansing State Journal with Baker at his office in Denton, Texas, where North Texas is located, were unsuccessful. Jason Cody, a MSU spokesperson, said in an email Wednesday morning to the LSJ that he will look into the matter. The website Justia Trademarks says the term "mean green" is North Texas' trademark and was registered 2011. On Jan. 23, 2016, the official Twitter page for MSU's men's basketball team referred to the term "mean green" in a tweet that mentioned new Nike uniforms for players. read more: http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/news/local/2017/10/04/michigan-state-vs-north-texas-twitter-threat-may-create-new-rivalry/730742001/
  7. For those select few who continue to pine for our use of the generic “Eagles” —. Does this situation help you to “get it”? Programs wouldn’t give two $hits about stealing “Eagles” from us but “Mean Green” is unique and desirable. Mean Green is cool. It will serve us well as the program builds and grows. and in RV’s defense he did press for Mean Green after Craig Helwig tried to distance from it.
  8. I gotta be honest. They are nice. I hope we can do something similar someday. Looks like they took some notes from the UT ones.
  9. I think people underestimate how starved this fanbase is for success. So yes we do get excited with performances like we saw on the road at USM. It is a good thing in my mind. It gives us much needed hope for the future.
  10. Gene Stallings suffered a serious heart attack. Former Alabama and Texas A&M coach Gene Stallings suffered a “serious” heart attack last Friday night, according to a report by Rick Karle of WBRC news out of Birmingham. Karle reports that Stallings is currently on a ventilator. Stallings has suffered two strokes recently, but this isn’t good news. Stallings was always very good to UNT and helped us in our move to solidify our move to I-A in a consulting capacity. 11. Got word that one of our own UNT RTF alums will be directing the UTSA vs. UNT TV game broadcast. The show is from a TV station in SA but a large portion of his crew is from the Bill Mercer School of Sports Broadcasting, including the on-air talent. Always makes proud to see one of our own having success in their chosen fields. GMG!
  12. I meant Darnell Smith dammit! Always screws me up lol.
  13. Probably one of the most heralded players in UTSA's short time in I-A iwas QB Eric Soza. He was not that tall but a very good player.
  14. I know it's still early yet but it's interesting to compare these two squads. Derek Thompson or Mason Fine? brandin Byrd or Jeff Wilson darnell Harris or Jalen Guyton? Zach Orr or Josh Wheeler? Marcus Trice or Khari Muhammed? Danny Mac vs Littrell?
  15. Great observation. Agree 100%
  16. One thing I noticed from your clips is how damn good a blocker Kelvin Smith is down the field. What a gem he has been for the program. And he's only a sophomore?

  18. This was a nice comment from a fan: "From listening to the game (I wasn't about to pay a dime to stream a cUNT game that UTSA wasn't in.), it sounded like Fine was just chucking it up to Guyton and none of the USM Db's could cover him. UNT really only has 2 players, Guyton & Wilson. The midget at QB doesn't scare me."
  19. "We are heavy favorites in all our games except UNT and LA Tech and the swamp rats don't look very good. This isn't a surprising prediction." Read more: http://www.rowdytalk.com/showthread.php/9385-At-UNT-might-be-our-toughest-game
  20. Sorry to hear. Good man.
  21. The visitors’ three-headed monster that consisted of quarterback Mason Fine, running back Jeffery Wilson and receiver Jalen Guyton accomplished the bulk of the bombarding. Fine threw a pair of touchdowns and racked up 366 passing yards. The majority of them went Guyton’s way. The one-time Notre Dame signee caught 14 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown. For good measure, Wilson — C-USA’s leading rusher — collected 148 yards on 30 carries and scored three times. “Yeah, Fine is their gun,” Hopson said. “He’s the guy that makes it go for them. He did a good job making some plays. He made some big plays. It’s a tough loss.” read more: http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/story/sports/college/southern-miss/blitz/2017/09/30/southern-miss-starts-strong-falls-flat-loss-north-texas/697934001/

The Mean Green trailed 14-0 and 21-7 before the defense stiffened and the offense went high octane, racking up eight plays of 20 yards or more, including four by Guyton, as North Texas scored 26 unanswered points. Running back Jeffery Wilson followed up his 211-yard performance of a week ago by rushing for 148 yards and three touchdowns, including a 43-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, capping a streak of 26 unanswered points, overturning a 21-7 deficit and pushing the Mean Green to a 33-21 lead. Wilson's most impressive running, however, may have come on a two-yard carry on fourth and one at the midfield and a six-yard touchdown run that responded to a Southern Miss TD that cut the North Texas lead to 33-28. North Texas becomes the first team this season to score more than 24 points against Southern Miss, which came into the game with the eighth-ranked defense in the nation, and the first to score in the first and fourth quarters against the Golden Eagles. "I was really proud of the way we bounced back after some things went against us in the first half," North Texas coach Seth Littrell said. "It took a little bit for us to get settled in, but once we did we had some positive plays and got some momentum. "They wanted it," he added said. "They've been itching to finish off games. The critical road win over the Golden Eagles, considered one of the top contenders in Conference USA, pushes North Texas to the top of C-USA's West Division at 2-0 in league play and 3-2 on the season. Its North Texas' first 2-0 start in league play since 2004. This was the conference opener for Southern Miss, which is 2-2 on the year.
