This was a guy mentioned as a replacement for Mac. Looks like he has turned Tulane around pretty quickly. Winner -- Tulane coach Willie Fritz: He has a history of taking big steps forward during Year 2 of rebuilding projects. It looks like Tulane is next to take that step following a whopping 62-28 win over Tulsathat included 488 yards rushing. This was a 48-7 game at the half. Fritz has won everywhere he's gone, and at this rate, he's earning himself another job -- perhaps in the Power Five. Tulane may not win the AAC -- although at this point, who knows -- but they're going to be a thorn for a lot of opponents. This is a fun team. read more: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-winners-and-losers-week-6-strong-showing-from-state-of-texas/

“So I see we are back to blaming the losses on Sturm...This is what happens when you start looking ahead of the competition and don't worry about the opponent that you are playing that week. We need to take it one game at a time, and it starts with the fans. c-UNT did a really good job coming to this board and getting us to think about them instead of Southern Miss. I believe this team will wake up and go win the rest of the games. We beat c-unt next game and we have the tie breaker for the lead with our overall record. c-unt are not world beaters.”

NCAA About to Release Findings and Penalties on UNC
Harry replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I'll be honest, this is going to be a slap on the wrist. UNC is where Michael Jordan played and one of the biggest moneymakers the NCAA has. I will be shocked if there are any major penalties -- which is a sad statement. -

The Mike Price era was reborn Wednesday morning, as the new interim head coach conducted his first practice. Price took over Monday after former UTEP football coach Sean Kugler announced his resignation at the start of this week. He had a meeting with the team Tuesday afternoon and went to work at practice early Wednesday morning. Price is 177-183 all-time as a head coach and came back to the gridiron after being the UTEP head coach from 2004-12. Instead of taking a hands-on approach, as he said he wouldn’t do, Price roamed both sides of the ball during practice and took notes while the teams prepared for Western Kentucky Saturday. “Here’s the situation, we have really good guys who try hard and work hard. The problem is the product isn’t good,” Price said. “Don’t know why that is. If I find out, we can win some games. It’ll take me some time. Hopefully find the key and open it up.” As the practice unfolded, Price did little to mix up the pot and didn’t want to interject what the players and coaches were used to. read more: http://texashsfootball.com/mike-price-story/

Since the late 1960s, University of North Texas sports teams have been known as the Mean Green, in honor of UNT defensive tackle and future NFL and advertising star “Mean” Joe Greene. UNT trademarked the name in 2011. To the consternation of some alumni and local sports broadcasters, that didn’t prevent ESPN from billing Michigan State (known by the far lamer and more generic “Spartans”) as the Mean Green in a promo for MSU’s upcoming game against the University of Michigan (“Wolverines,” also wacker than “Mean Green.”) As of Tuesday night, the same promo had also ticked off UNT athletics director Wren Baker, a man blessed with three things: the righteous little-guy fury of an often overlooked athletics department, the legal protections of a registered trademark, and a Twitter account allowed to surpass the traditional 140-character limit. We may still get a Mean Green grudge match out of this, as Baker told the Lansing State Journal in Michigan that North Texas would consider scheduling a game against Michigan State. read more: https://www.dmagazine.com/frontburner/2017/10/north-texas-mean-green-michigan-state/

They are our next opponent on the schedule if you haven't noticed. I think that makes it topical.

To no one’s surprise, Frank Wilson is laser focused on this week’s opponent. For him, it’s all about Southern Miss, morning, noon and long night after night. Like every football, basketball or badminton coach who has ever held a whistle, Wilson steadfastly refuses to look ahead to future foes. “But you’re entitled to,” he told reporters this week. Thanks, coach, we will. In analyzing UTSA’s remaining schedule, it’s hard to see many losses. Or any at all. It wouldn’t be a shock to see the Roadrunners run the table and finish 11-0. At 3-0 and one of just 17 undefeated teams remaining in the Football Bowl Subdivision, UTSA likely will be favored in every game the rest of the season. For a startup program in only its seventh year of existence, that’s no small feat. Going 11-0 is not just a pipe dream. UTSA has a favorable schedule the rest of the way and superior talent. You can forward it to the 17 minute mark and it takes about 3 minutes to listen to.
