Name one regular season game more meaningful than this one
Harry replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The guys on that UTSA podcast (Jared I think) stated it better than me — the coaching futures of both Wilson and Littrell seem to be converging in this game today. The winner will become the “darling” of G5 and the loser will be back to the drawing board. But it is also more important for UNT for this reason - we have one last shot today to impact the home attendance for the rest of the year. If we deliver the students will be back. If we lay an egg it’s not over but you seriously damage your attendance prospects. I also think this is a huge impact game for recruiting. UTSA has been killing it.. if we could beat Wilson it would aid our efforts to get the top recruits. I believe if you put all of these factors together it makes this the most important regular season game we have seen. GMG -
Why is it that James Madison seems to get a Gameday appearance on ESPN so much? Is it a 20 spot under the table or is there some other connection like location etc? Seems like they get to be on there a lot.

UTSA are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up loss and UTSA are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games on fieldturf and UTSA are 6-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. Over is 4-0 in North Texas last 4 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game and North Texas are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game and North Texas are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win. I don’t see this as a blowout either way so with North Texas as a home dog coming off a bye, I’ll back the points… Read more at https://sportschatplace.com/cfb-picks/2017/10/14/north-texas-vs-utsa-10/14/17-college-football-pick-odds-and-prediction#BzBMcTSETuAmt2B7.99

North Texas trailed Southern Miss 21-14 with 45 seconds remaining in the first half in Week 5. Following a loss on first down and false start, they faced a 2nd-and-16 from their own 14-yard-line. Instead of packing it in, Mean Green head coach Seth Littrell showed trust in his sophomore quarterback. Mason Fine faked the handoff to running back Jeffery Wilson, took a five-step drop and launched deep to Caleb Chumley for a 43-yard gain that set up a last-second field goal. Yep, Fine's shoulder is just . . . fine. Fine was the lone quarterback signee in Littrell's first class in Denton. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound two-star recruit from Oklahoma committed to the program during a visit in January 2016, seven weeks after Littrell, also a native Oklahoman, was hired. “After Seth saw the film, he said, ‘I’ve got to have this guy," recalled Matt Hennesy, Fine's coach at Locust Grove High School. “I’ve been doing this for 25 years, and Mason is the best high school quarterback I’ve seen.” read more: https://m.herosports.com/college-football/north-texas-football-mason-fine-start-ahah

GoMeanGreen.com Barbershop Podcast #186 pre-UTSA
Harry replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I think what people are missing in my mustwinutsa diatribe, is we need this to continue our momentum. Everyone knows how it felt to compete against Iowa, beat UAB, and then beat a favored USM team on the road. The bye week and the losses from UTSA and La. Tech provided additional momentum. So I would argue with the bye week, UNT garnered a three week positive-momentum wave. Beating UTSA would put us to 4. That's a month of positive UNT football vibes. How often exactly has that occurred in the lifespan of this program. While I agree with @BeyondTheGreen that the season is not lost with a UTSA loss I have this caviat. For us diehards here on the board, the season would not be lost. The fence sitters, who outnumber the diehards by 1000 to 1 will lose interest with a UTSA loss in my opinion. Now we could end up beating UTSA and losing other games which could impact things for sure at a later time. The other big reason I did not get to verbalize in the podcast is recruiting. Beating UTSA would be a huge boost in that particular regard. -
I like whatever the players and coaches like and feel motivated by! GMG

This show we talk about the Mean Green Football team's clutch win against USM and the upcoming big contest against UTSA. UNT alums @Evan, @Harry, and @BeyondTheGreen give their hot sports thoughts on the season thus far and this upcoming monumental game against the Roadrunners in Denton. http://gomeangreenbarbershop.libsyn.com/podcast/gmgpod186-101017-10-06-pm

[NT Daily] Opinion: Some students find the Mean Green Brigade lacking
Harry replied to dmaxel's topic in Mean Green Football
First off welcome to the board. We appreciate having your insight on here. I think the vast majority of fans I know are extremely proud of the Green Brigade and I know I am. When you see them compared to a band like SMU has it become readily apparent we are blessed in this particular regard. Does that mean that we can't voice our opinions on how they could improve? To whom is their performance aimed at exactly? Seems to me that the alums, students and fans might have some honest feedback that would be useful and worth hearing. I agree that it should be done in a positive way. It seems to me that most on here are constructively offering opinions on how to improve the gameday presentation of the Green Brigade. I do not see anyone going after the kids, rather offering suggestions to the leadership in terms of ways to potentially improve things in the future. And quite frankly, I think some of the suggestions offered have been pretty good. -

Lee Jackson plans to do a lot more than just clean out his desk and say his goodbyes during his last full workday Friday as chancellor of the University of North Texas System. He's got a meeting at 7:30 a.m., a charity fundraising luncheon at noon and a visit to University of North Texas at Dallas scheduled for the afternoon. "I told people a long time ago that I was going to work until 5 o'clock because that's consistent with my life," he said. The chancellor of 15 years, the longest tenure in Texas, had a lot to say during a Tuesday interview about how he plans to stay engaged until the end — and beyond. For example, when asked how these last few months have been, knowing that his time as chancellor is coming to an end, his 20-minute-long answer touched on his thoughts on his career, politics and the cost of attending college. Jackson's appointment as chancellor in 2002 raised some eyebrows. It was considered unusual at the time to hire a career politician — he's a former state legislator and Dallas County judge — to a top academic post. But Jackson's tenure reshaped the UNT System. Since he started, the system has added UNT-Dallas, a new campus in economically challenged south Dallas. It has also enrolled thousands more students, spent millions of dollars more on research and raised its six-year-graduation rate to 51 percent. And during Jackson's time, the way state leaders view the job of chancellor has shifted. Now, four of the five chancellors of the state's other big systems are nonacademics — Brian McCall of Texas State, Robert Duncan of Texas Tech and John Sharp of Texas A&M are former state politicians, and Bill McRaven of the University of Texas is a retired Navy admiral. Jackson's replacement will be another "nontraditional" choice: former NASA administrator Lesa Roe. Here are the highlights from the interview, edited and rearranged chronologically for clarity: read more: https://www.texastribune.org/2017/10/05/outgoing-unt-chancellor-federal-inactivity-student-debt-biggest-threat/
