BOCA RATON Conference USA East Division leader Florida Atlantic (3-3, 2-0 in Conference USA) comes off its bye week Saturay night for a showdown with C-USA West leader North Texas (4-2, 3-0) at FAU Stadium. With a win, FAU will have four wins in a single season for the first time since 2013, when the Owls finished 6-6. Under new head coach Lane Kiffin, the Owls are in a position to compete for a C-USA championship if their offense continues to dominate and their defense forces more turnovers. They feel good about the way they played the last couple of weeks in those games, but this is obviously the best conference team we have played so far,” Kiffin said this week. “Arguably, the best team in the conference by the way they are playing now on both sides of the ball. We will have our hands full with that, but we just have to keep getting better” read more: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/college-football/lane-kiffin-and-fau-host-north-texas-conference-usa-showdown/nBOsIZLQueAAbd6ODDz4mK/

The Florida Atlantic football team began the season against Navy and Wisconsin. They were arguably the toughest opponents on this year’s schedule, but the Owls are now preparing for another difficult challenge. Saturday’s matchup against North Texas marks the first in a challenging three-game stretch that could determine the outcome of the season. After North Texas, the Owls play at Western Kentuckyand Marshall. The Hilltoppers are the defending Conference USA champions, and Marshall in undefeated in league play. “It’s going to be tough,” FAU linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair said. “Every week it’s going to be a fight. It’s kind of up for grabs for everybody. You always want to stay focused on who’s in front of you and trying to get too far down the road.” tead more: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/fau-owls/fl-sp-fau-north-texas-preview-20171020-story.html

FAU homie was pretty...pretty... confident. Hey I like a guy that stands up for and believes in his team. I agree with you that they really haven't played anyone of significance yet at least in conference. Even MUTS fans will tell you they are a shadow of what they were. Key to this game is we need to score early and often. Take them out of their run formula and force that QB to throw the ball.

That’s a very distinct possibility.

Behind the scenes with Mean Green Football’s loudest fan
Harry posted a topic in Mean Green Football
“Fire in the hole!” “Fire in the hole!” “Fire in the hole!” With the third warning, a thunderous noise boomed through the stadium and white smoke hung in the air. Yells of enthusiasm filled the green and white’s territory as the start of a Mean Green football game had been announced by Boomer the cannon. He may not be the only Mean Green fan who has been attending University of North Texas games since the 1970s, but he’s definitely the loudest. He sounds off every time the Mean Green score, at kick-off, half-time, and at the conclusion of each game. The cannon crew, a committee within the student organization Talons, is comprised of 11 handlers, who work together to care for Boomer. The head of the cannon crew, CJ Hart, prides himself in his position and is honored to maintain a UNT tradition of Boomer’s magnitude. “It’s one of the most memorable traditions we have here on campus,” Hart said. “Anyone who goes to a football game will hear the cannon. Even if you’re not in the stands, if you’re around, you’re going to hear Boomer.” Safety is a huge concern for the cannon crew. Each member of the cannon crew goes through safety training and has extensive knowledge of how to handle any situation that could arise from firing the cannon. Each member wears fire-resistant jumpsuits to protect them in the event of a fire, but they decorate their suits to transform them into their own unique spirit uniforms. There are a lot of college campuses in Texas that have cannons or artillery, but UNT’s cannon is the only one operated by a non-military group. The Talons had already been operating a cannon prior to the creation of this mandate, so the organization was grandfathered in and allowed to keep the tradition alive, Hart said. This is a source of pride and anxiety for Talons because if anything were to go wrong, they could lose their privilege of caring for Boomer and the tradition that they have always been responsible for. “We value the cannon so much,” Bobby Powell, co-head of the cannon crew said. read more: https://www.discoverdenton.com/behind-scenes-mean-green-footballs-loudest-fan/-

Call it Separation Saturday. Marshall and North Texas did what they do last week. The Herd kept up its stingy defensive ways, in a 35-3 win over Old Dominion. The Mean Green put up 441 yards of offense in a 29-26 win over UTSA, which leads C-USA in total defense. Clearly the class of the league at the moment, Marshall and North Texas stayed atop our rankings as co-No.2s. 2. Marshall (5-1, 2-0): The Herd is the first team in league history (22 years) to not allow a TD in its first two conference games. Up next: Friday, at Middle Tennessee. 2. North Texas (4-2, 3-0): Led by QB Mason Fine and RB Jeffrey Wilson, the high-powered Mean Green are threatening to pull away in the West. Up next: Saturday, at FAU. read more: https://pilotonline.com/sports/college/old-dominion/football/conference-usa-power-ratings-marshall-north-texas-are-separating-from/article_4a5c4a0f-f776-5233-bf49-c24f4a652bd9.html

Sometimes people with big fingers will accidentally hit the wrong button. It happens. Don’t let it get you down. If you see something that looks unfair just negate it by giving it an upvote. That’s what I do.

I thought they went to the well too often on that as well. His 1st one was good and then they kept going back to it.

This is a great question. I have no idea how to get this info save a FOI request. @Brett Vito might be able to assist in this regard.

BOCA RATON – DeAndre McNeal sees this week’s match-up between FAU and North Texas as more than a battle between two first-place Conference USA teams. It’s also a game for bragging rights between the titans of high school football. “Basically, they say Florida and Texas have the best high school football, so now you’ve got a team from Florida and a team from Texas playing against each other,” McNeal said. “It will be a great experience. I’m excited for it.” North Texas, located in the Dallas suburb of Denton, lists a roster overwhelmingly populated by players from the Lone Star State. An even larger percentage of FAU’s players hail from the Sunshine State. Linebacker Mylam Peters is the lone Floridian to appear on the Mean Green roster. McNeal, a wide receiver, is one of three Texans on FAU’s squad and will likely be the lone Texas native to hit the field for the Owls. read more: http://fauowlaccess.com/floridaatlantic/texas-sized-bragging-rights/7251/2017/10/18/
