I thought the first return was the biggest one. We were playing well and it let them right back in the game and gave them confidence. To have that happen so early in the game is really inexcusable. If you play to one side you have to have a safety on the weak side. It really has been our Achilles heel in a lot of games this season.

Can’t help but think my desperation to win the Texas at San Antonio game in some way led to the disastrous outcome against FAU. In hindsight, and despite the painful 69, I probably would still have taken that deal and considered it a bargain.

That’s sort of how I feel about it as well. If you’re going to lose one like that, better to have it occur on the road against a team from the other division.

Florida Atlantic finished with a Conference USA-record 804 yards in a 69-31 downing of North Texas on Saturday night. The Owls (4-3, 3-0) scored on their first 11 drives, including nine touchdowns.
