But why for once can't we be proactive and do whatever we can to try and keep as many of these guys around for at least another year. I want to see us get out of the "oh well it was meant to be and there is nothing we can do about it" mindset. Let's PROACTIVELY come up with a proposal to keep the key members of this staff in place. Let's not get caught with our pants down like after year 1 when half of our staff was poached... If you need inspiration, look at what Houston did with Tom Herman. They stepped up their commitment significantly and it bought them another year and their program was able to step up to another level. We have alums with ample cash who could at least make Littrell have to think long and hard about leaving. The administration has to look at it like an investment in the university itself, not just the football program. I know that some will say the job becomes more attractive yada yada...however, when I think of our track record of hiring replacements over the years it makes me shudder. Let's try to think outside of the box on this. GMG

HEAD COACH CANDIDATE?: Though he's only 32, expect the name of Graham Harrell, UNT's offensive coordinator, to come up soon in head-coaching searches, such as the one UTEP will go on soon. "Graham's an unbelievable coach, there's no doubt in my mind he's going to be an unbelievable head coach," Littrell said. "He was born and bred, his entire family, to be a great head coach." read more: http://www.elpasotimes.com/story/sports/college/utep/2017/11/09/north-texas-uteps-shoes-two-years-ago-now-first-place/848399001/

Their struggling offense couldn't score, their team couldn't win, they changed coaches at midseason and there wasn't much indication they could compete at the Conference USA level. That was the state of North Texas football in 2015. They suffered a season-ending loss to UTEP that sent them into a coaching search at 1-11 and hope didn't seem a denizen of that precinct. Fast forward two years and the Miners return to a program turned upside down. The 6-3 Mean Green are first place in C-USA West, prohibitive favorites to win it, a good bet to go into December's league title game at 9-3. Everything that has happened since that loss to UTEP is a blueprint for the Miners, for anyone on the wrong end of the standings, really, as they look to duplicate the miracle in Denton. read more: http://www.elpasotimes.com/story/sports/college/utep/2017/11/09/north-texas-uteps-shoes-two-years-ago-now-first-place/848399001/

Austin Ogunmakin talks about committing to UNT
Harry replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Those typically happen later. The P5's overshow early interest on the big guys who can run to keep their options open. In December reality sets in. I agree we need depth and even immediate impact at the position. -
Jordan Gorham of Seminole, Florida has committed to swim for the University of North Texas next fall. “Excited to announce that I have verbally committed to swim for the university of North Texas! I can’t wait to be a eagle for the next four years! #meangreen” Gorham attends Seminole High School and swims for West Florida Lightning Aquatic. She specializes in distance freestyle and IM, and has qualified for next week’s Florida 3A state championships in both the 200 IM (2:09.91) and 500 free (5:01.60). At the 2016 FHSAA 3A state meet she placed 9th in the 500 and 12th in the 200 free. In club swimming, Gorham tends to begin with 200s and go up from there. She wrapped up last year’s short course season with a top-8 finish in the 1650 free (5th) and B-final performances in the 500 free and 400 IM at the 2017 Florida Swimming Senior Championships in February. She swam a similar program at her LCM championship meets this summer, earning PBs in the 800 free and 200 IM. read more: https://swimswam.com/distance-swimmer-jordan-gorham-commits-north-texas/

Austin Ogunmakin talks about committing to UNT
Harry replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
The Seth Littrell effect: "North Texas is the best fit for me with how its offense is set up," Ogunmakin said. "It's fast paced and they put up a lot of points. That is the kind of offense I want to play in." -
Joe Ozougwu came to North Texas as a developmental project, and he hoped to follow the path blazed by his older brother in Conference USA. The redshirt freshman linebacker had all the physical tools Cheta Ozougwu displayed at Rice before playing four seasons in the NFL. The former Alief Taylor standout just needed some time to tap into them. The younger of the Ozougwu brothers showed he is further along in that process than pretty much anyone realized last week in the Mean Green's win over Louisiana Tech. read more: http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/mean-green/2017/11/09/ozougwu-bursts-onto-scene-unt

Big win!!

Grant: A fantastic job at SMU is a 10-win season. Horn: And they could have a 10-win season. Bass: They could do that in that conference. Like I just mentioned, how they got Courtland Sutton, I'll never know. That's such a big check mark in the Chad Morris column to me. The fact that you got that kind of caliber player and another bigger school sees that and goes wow we can get this type of player with this guy and he's recruiting in the area. Sherrington: Well he also recruited DeShaun Watson. Horn: DeShaun Watson, comes from a program, Clemson, that is not a bad program to be coming from. Sherrington: He would've been better off to come from there. Horn: You think so? Grant: I do think so. Bass: I'm just pumped Seth Littrell isn't on anyone's radar yet as he has my North Texas Mean Green up above .500. read more: https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/collegesports/2017/10/04/will-chad-morris-coach-texas-am-next-season-sure

Give Conference USA credit for thinking outside the arena. Hold the conference tournament at a football stadium? Why not? The C-USA tourney has generated little buzz and attracted few fans in recent years on its own, so the league will play the next two at The Star in Frisco, the Dallas Cowboys’ glitzy practice facility. Shake up the way teams schedule? What’s to lose? C-USA has been a one-bid league, so it hired consultant Mark Adams to devise ways to crack the at-large code with smarter scheduling. Just 23rd in conference RPI last year, C-USA remains challenged by its vast geography and dragged down by its bottom tier of teams. But as another season begins, everyone’s unbeaten and hopeful. Here are some questions heading into the season: Can anyone take down Middle Tennessee? The Blue Raiders blew through the league last year, finishing 17-1 and 31-5 overall, then won a first-round NCAA game for the second straight year. Forwards Reggie Upshaw and JaCorey Williams are gone, but with guard Giddy Potts back and Alabama transfer Nick King arriving, Middle is again the favorite – just not as prohibitive a favorite. “There’s not a gap this year the same way there was last year,” Old Dominion coach Jeff Jones said. “They were head-and-shoulders above everyone.” read more: https://pilotonline.com/sports/college/old-dominion/basketball/questions-as-conference-usa-basketball-tips-off/article_4a738da6-f7cd-5822-9c75-e51741104df9.html
