This is going to be a crazy year with so many high profile jobs opening up. Makes me nervous as hell. I had forgot that Fisher won a national championship in 2013. There aren't many out there with that type of hardware. In fact there are only 4 active now that Stoops retired: Alabama's Nick Saban, Clemson's Dabo Swinney, Florida State's Jimbo Fisher and Ohio State's Urban Meyer. I will say this, I'm thinking Kevin Sumlin will land on his feet.

Texas A&M is expected to inquire about the interest level of Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher once its separation from current coach Kevin Sumlin is official at the end of the season, according to two people familiar with the situation. Those people spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because Texas A&M has not made an announcement on Sumlin’s future and due to the sensitivity of the matter. Though Fisher has never given serious consideration to leaving Florida State previously, rebuffing interest from LSU the last two years, one person close to Fisher pointed to his longstanding relationship with Texas A&M athletics director Scott Woodward and the current disappointing season at Florida State as reasons why Texas A&M’s pursuit might be more realistic. Woodward arrived as an administrator at LSU in 2000, the same year Fisher was hired there as offensive coordinator under Nick Saban. They have remained in touch and friendly over the years, according to a person familiar with Fisher’s thinking. Pursuing Fisher would make sense for Texas A&M, which has shown a willingness to spend big money to reach the elite level of college football. Beyond Fisher, who won a national title in 2013, there are few, if any, candidates for the job who would be a guaranteed upgrade over Sumlin. I think they will need to go juco to get a wheeler replacement and maybe a defensive end or linebacker. Maybe a juco Olineman as well. I bet we have a few mid term juco transfers announced in Dec.

The sound of constant jumping from the apartment directly above her had become a grim routine for sophomore Carley Carroll, long before the disastrous events of the University of North Texas homecoming game weekend. “Every weekend a different party,” the student told CBS-11. And during some of those parties, Carroll would watch her ceiling go up and down like a trampoline. Sometimes she would even call police in Denton, Tex., to complain — half-worried that it might collapse. And yet, Carroll said, “It’s one of those things you don’t think is actually going to happen.” Then, on Saturday, the North Texas Mean Green walloped the University of Texas at El Paso 45-10 in the big game, and Carroll’s upstairs neighbors threw a party to remember. Police estimated that 100 people crammed into the third-story apartment above her that night — which like every unit in the complex was occupied by college students. read more: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2017/11/13/a-college-party-was-so-massive-it-crashed-straight-through-the-apartment-floor/?utm_term=.1a94042d1f05

After a narrow escape in its season opener against Eastern Illinois, Nebraska (1-0) will return to action tonight, Nov. 12, against North Texas (1-0) at Pinnacle Bank Arena. With plenty of new faces on this year’s team for Nebraska, it was one of the older ones that baled them out Saturday night. Junior point guard Glynn Watson Jr. scored 21 points to lead the Huskers to a 72-68 win over Eastern Illinois. His free throws with 11.8 seconds left in the game sealed the contest. read more: http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/huskers-look-to-find-a-way-to-be-better-against/article_2cbb7a2a-29f8-5b27-b8e1-9033e2f1bae7.html

North Texas returns three starters from a team that went 8-22 last season while losing 16 of its last 18 games. McCasland has one of the youngest rosters in Division I, with nine freshmen or sophomores and just two seniors. Despite the resume, Nebraska can't yet show up and expect to win. The Huskers found that out Monday, in the process continuing a theme from their two exhibition games and a closed scrimmage: They made enough plays down the stretch to get the job done. "I'm proud of our team because we found a way to win," senior guard Evan Taylor said. "It wasn't easy, and we knew we were going to have to grind, but we found a way to win." read more: http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/huskers-look-to-find-a-way-to-be-better-against/article_2cbb7a2a-29f8-5b27-b8e1-9033e2f1bae7.html

WHO TO WATCH UNT Smart. One of the top 100 junior college players in the nation last season, Smart averaged 18.8 points per game at New Mexico Junior College before transferring to North Texas and scoring 23 on 8-of-10 shooting in his debut. NEBRASKA (1-0) Players to watch G Glynn Watson; 6-0; Jr.; 21.0; 1. C Jordy Tshimanga; 6-11; So.; 2.0; 11.0 WHO TO WATCH Nebraska Watson. Up to his old tricks against Eastern Illinois, hitting clutch shots and big free throws down the stretch to keep the Huskers above water. And Husker coach Tim Miles thinks he can be even better. read more:http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/fast-break-points-north-texas-at-nebraska/article_d3f1f8c8-c0ce-58d1-b54a-6cf75d4b7907.html
