http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/...g.1114df25.html Wilson commits to UNT 04:39 PM CST on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 By BRETT VITO / Staff Writer Woody Wilson, a 6-1, 185-pound quarterback from Coffeyville Community College confirmed late Monday night that he has orally committed to play for North Texas. Wilson will transfer to UNT at the semester break and will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Mean Green. Wilson threw for 910 yards and rushed for 214 last season, despite playing in just six games before breaking his collarbone early on in a loss to Garden City in the Red Ravens' seventh game of the season. Tight end Brian Carlson has also committed to UNT. The 6-5, 271-pound former Kilgore Junior College standout said he cancelled a visit to New Mexico after committing to UNT. Wilson was recruited as a defensive back by Nebraska, Kansas State and Kansas. For complete coverage of UNT recruiting, see Wednesday's edition of the Denton Record-Chronicle. BRETT VITO can be reached at 940-566-6870. His e-mail address is bvito@dentonrc.com

Live Press Conference at 10am--new MT coach
Harry replied to KAjunRaider's topic in Mean Green Football
http://uscsports.collegesports.com/sports/...ill_rick00.html Here a bio on their new Coach Rick Stockstill. I watched the press conference and was impressed. His enthusiasm is strong and he has a reputation as one of the hardest working recruiters in the business. He's clearly hungry as this is his first head coaching gig. The flip side is that saying all of this stuff at a press conference is easy, in fact it is easy to do that for the first couple of years. Will he be able to maintain that level of enthusiasm over time remains the question. Andy Mac had the best of intentions and was a good recruiter as well. Over time his enthusiasm lessened and the losses took their toll. IMHO very shrewd hire by MTSU and their AD. -

Along with fi rst-team selections for Cobbs and Lineberry, the Mean Green placed wide receiver Johnny Quinn, defensive lineman Jeremiah Chapman, linebacker Phillip Graves and safety Aaron Weathers to the second-team All-Sun Belt. Weathers also garnered Newcomer of the Year honors. Linebacker Maurice Holman and place kicker Nick Bazaldua were named honorable mention. Cobbs, the 2003 national rushing champion and Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year, was named to the fi rst-team for the second time in his career. He ran for 1,154 in 2005 to fi nish as North Texas’ all-time leading rusher with 4,050 career yards. Cobbs posted the school-record for 100-yard rushing games with 21, and fi nishes his career tops in rushing touchdowns, yards and attempts. But Cobbs couldn’t have done it without Lineberry, who paved the way for the second 1,000-yard rusher of his career in 2005. Lineberry graded out as the team’s top offensive lineman in 10 of the team’s 11 games and will return for his final year of eligibility next season. Lineberry also led the team with 133 knockdowns. Weathers, the Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, is already rewriting the record books for the Mean Green secondary. The sophomore recorded 133 tackles in 2005, the second most by a defensive back in the nation this season. His 10.3 tackles per game ranks him second overall in the Sun Belt and 19th in the nation, and is the most ever by a North Texas defensive back. Lineberry was named Newcomer of the Year in 2004. Quinn, who has led the Mean Green in receiving the last three years, has at least one reception in 35 straight games. The streak encompasses every game of the junior’s career and ranks ninth among all Division I-A receivers. Quinn ranked third in the conference in receptions per game with 4.27 and fourth with 53.7 yards a game. Chapman stepped into the starting role this season with much success. The sophomore fi nished fi fth on the team with a career-best 61 tackles and a team-high nine tackles for loss and four sacks, second among Sun Belt defensive ends. Chapman started every game for the Mean Green, playing the fi nal nine with an injured ankle. Graves finished second on the team and among Sun Belt linebackers with a career-best 93 tackles. The junior registered seven tackles for loss and ranked first in the league with three fumble recoveries and second with two forced fumbles. Graves had three quarterback sacks and put up a career-best 16 tackles against UL-Monroe. Holman posted a career high 86 tackles, 67 more than his freshman campaign last year. The sophomore’s 8.6 tackles per game ranks him fourth in the conference and 65th in the nation. Holman provided one of the year’s biggest game-changing plays when he returned an interception 99 yards for the game tying touchdown in the win over Middle Tennessee. Bazaldua, a Lou Groza watch list nominee, was nearly perfect from inside 40 yards. The senior hit 4-of-5 fi eld goals from inside 40, with a blocked attempt against Louisiana State, the nation’s fi fth ranked defense, the lone miss. Aside from that block, Bazaldua’s other misses were from an average of over 46 yards. The senior hit four field goals from beyond 40 yards in 2005, including a season long 50-yarder against LSU. Bazaldua also became North Texas’ and the Sun Belt’s all-time leading scorer this season, putting up 247 points in his career. FIRST TEAM OFFENSE Pos. While I am sorry to hear your story, I would ask that if you are making the claims that you are, you probably ought to provide your name. I just say that because of the fact that you're using anonymity takes away from the validity of your statement. You use the name of George and RV so frankly you should be willing to use your name as well given the severity of the charges you are making. On George - there hasn't been a more loyal supporter of Mean Green Athletics that I know or have known. This is a guy that truly loves the school and has been there through the good times and bad. He's given a LOT of his time and gives us uncountless media coverage when others won't. I didn't hear your comments during the game because I was on the student side for most of the game. I'll be honest, I don't like people criticizing George just the same way as I don't like security guards going after Firefightn Rick. There are certain supporters of our program that deserve the benefit of the doubt. I also think George should be given the benefit of the doubt this year especially since the season was such a disappointment. We were all frustrated with how things turned out. One of the biggest criticisms of this board over the years has been that people are able to hide behind user names and say whatever they want to say without any consequence. I believe that the anonymity (sp?) also allows people to speak freely and opens up a lot of good information so it is a double edged sword in many respects. The coaches and administrators at UNT are public figures and hence should be aware that they are being discussed by the fanbase. In this particular case though, the fact that you remain anonymous, while criticizing one of our best supporters by name doesn't seem fair.

Dickey owes us an apology and an explaination
Harry replied to Mean Green Sig's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, as we all know, DD isn't going anywhere and so cries for his dismissal are wasted breath in my book. You do have every right to voice your displeasure. We had 4 pretty good years with conference championships and bowl trips. And please spare me the rhetoric about the quality of the conference - it's the conference we are in and our goal should be to win it. For that success DD deserves credit. We didn't see the non-conference success we had hoped for either. This year was an extreme disappointment for a lot of reasons and DD has said this himself. Everyone had high hopes and expectations. As it turns out we were outmanned in most of these ball games when it counted. I said earlier in the season that I would wait to evaluate things after the season was over. Well, lipstick on a pig still leaves you with a pig and this season sucked to high heaven no doubt. To me - the Silver lining is that there are some players to build this thing around. So all is not lost. However, there need to be some changes. Something that we are doing is flawed, something isn't working. You don't win the Sun Belt four times in a row and end up with a smaller offensive and defensive line than every Sun Belt team you play. There needs to be some quality control here. Something is not right with the process. I don't think this is time for mean green mutiny. Let's see what happens, before we start threatening Jihad's and such. I think 2006 is a real critical year for this program. I also think that Dickey deserves a chance to get things back on track. -
Rick - you da Man! Actually, my Dad won the golf prize (we have the same name). But, I am planning on joining him and can't wait. This was a really neat event and I want to thank everyone involved. GMG!

Guys, UNT Director of Football Operations Mike Barela asked me to share this important NCAA Recruiting Regulation information with the Fans at GMG.com. This topic has come into discussion in relation with the Eagle Angels and their efforts. Please understand, the Eagle Angels are a big asset for us and have been critical in our recruiting efforts. Coach Barela has said I could provide his information if anyone had any specific questions. Final points, please follow these important NCAA guidelines and support the efforts of the Eagle Angels whenever you can! GMG! Please direct questions or comments to: Mike Barela Director of Football Operations University of North Texas 940-369-7638 - office 940-565-3470 - fax ############################################# NCAA REGULATIONS NCAA RULE 13.01.5 In Division 1, REPRESENTATIVES of athletics interest are PROHIBITED from making in-person, on-or-off campus recruiting contact with a prospect and his parents / guardian on or off campus. KEY POINT: A “representative” of NT athletic interests is: An individual who is known (or should have been known) by a member of NT’s executive or athletic administration to: A) Have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization promoting NT athletics. Have made financial contributions to the Athletic Dept. or to an athletic booster organization of NT. C) Have been involved otherwise in promoting the institution’s athletic program. D) Bought or received tickets to a NT athletics event. Once an individual is identified as an “ATHLETIC REPRESENTATIVE”, the person retains that identity forever. INTERPRETATIONS: 1. A representative of a Div. 1 institution is prohibited from making in-person, on-or-off campus recruiting contact with a prospect and his parents / guardian on or off campus. LIMITED EXCEPTION: You may have contact with a prospect – provided the prospect has already signed a National Letter of Intent and NT is aware you are making these contacts. Example – summer employment. 2. A Div. 1 representative is prohibited from writing or telephoning a prospect and his parents or legal guardians. LIMITED EXCEPTION: You may have a phone conversation with a prospect only if the prospect initiates the call. This must not be prearranged by a NT staff member and you are not permitted to have a recruiting conversation. 3. A representative is prohibited from contacting a prospect’s coach, principal, or counselor in an attempt to evaluate the prospect. LIMITED EXCEPTION: NCAA rules do not preclude you from viewing a prospect’s contest on your initiative, but you may not contact the prospect, their parents / relatives, or legal guardians. WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A PROSPECT? Do feel free to attend a high school or junior college event. You simply cannot have any contact with the prospective student-athlete or his relatives. Should you find yourself seated next to a prospect, or parents of a prospect, DO NOT initiate a conversation. If a conversation is initiated with you, respond in a civil manner, but DO NOT discuss NT athletics. If they do, remind them that NCAA rules prohibits you from discussing athletics with them. DO continue to establish family relationships with friends and neighbors. Contacts with sons of these families are permitted as long as they are not made for recruiting and are not prompted by NT coaches. These guidelines are established and enforced by the NCAA and adhered to by the North Texas Athletic Dept. Side Note: The Eagle Angels Organization fall under Athletic Administration for the NT athletic dept. The Eagle Angels are informed of the NCAA rules on a yearly basis. Because of this particular rule, this is why you see the “Angel barrier” between fans and prospects. Football Operations believes this is the most appropriate way to handle this rule. Eagle Angels are also informed on how to handle the various situations that may arise during a game. Please keep in mind, these are still 18 to 22 year old North Texas students and they may not respond to “pressure / stressful” situations in a mature adult manner that many expect. They are still learning how to deal with this - as did most of us at these ages. The importance of recruiting and the compliance of NCAA rules are continuously stressed to these ladies and they take it very seriously. Eagle Angels pride themselves on being courteous and professional. Unfortunately, at times, the heat of the situation may overcome what they work for. The Eagle Angel Organization is of great importance to the football program. They do not get paid and do this purely for the benefit of the program. Their help is appreciated by the coaching staff and a big reason as to why we have the success we have had the past couple of years.

DMN blurb JAMO 50-50 change to play Saturday
Harry replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Hot Sports Opinion but wouldn't he and we be better served to let J-Mo sit out the rest of the season and rest that hammy? Let Patrick have his day in the sun these final games... just a thought. Hamstrings are a nasty injury so hard to heal...
