  1. Interesting info on Nathan. He really seems to be a special kid and David Hinjosa of the DMNews noticed him. Also some neat comments from his dad Steve Tune. http://hs.beloblog.com/archives/2006/08/no...g_a_tune_1.html August 18, 2006 North Texas carrying a Tune It was good to read today about Celina’s ex-QB Nathan Tune earning a scholarship at North Texas. The true freshman went there as a walk on and shined in North Texas’ first scrimmage. Tune is about as good an athlete as I’ve ever seen come out of Celina in my six years here. He did an outstanding job helping lead Celina to the 28-12 victory against Omaha Paul Pewitt in last year’s Class 2A Division II championship by rushing for three second half touchdowns, including a 56-yarder in the fourth quarter. He outshined Ennis’ Clark Harrell for the North in the Texas High School Coaches All-Star game last month. Posted by David Hinojosa at 1:59 PM (E-mail this entry) | | Comments (1) Comments Thanks David for the kind comments re: Nathan! You, we all saw what he can do in the THSCA All-Star game. Had his HS circumstances been different, he probably would have had big stats and been considered one of the top QBs in the State (at least in DFW area) out of the 2005 Class. Mind you, Celina is a special place and we would not trade our 7 years here for anything. Very special community without question!! However, press and spotlight for Nathan was not meant to be. I call him "Cinderella Man" since he was underutilized in a power running offense and in 2A which gets little to no respect from D-1 schools. I can say that the good Lord must have bigger plans for him as he was put to test on several occasions over the past 8 months going back to the State Game. He broke his throwing arm elbow in the district tract meet last April (running high hurdles/a coach walked in front of him while doing his run up) which delayed his weight lifting/throwing 2 plus months. He then survived a accident (rollover) in his truck (2 weeks before All-Star game) where his girlfriend made him put his seatbelt on seconds before the accident (speed was not a factor). He shouldn't have been able to play in the All-Star game due to life crippling injuries or even loss of life. I told him the "Big Man upstairs must have big plans for him and soon" to get his attention and let him escape with only scrapes from crawling out of the window while upside down. His girlfriend and another friend also escaped unharmed. How awesome to have a miracle performed on/for you at such an early age! I have a feeling Nathan is going to do some special things for UNT. He is a great story right under your nose and just up the road!! As for Celina, you guys need to give them more coverage. I feel confident in saying that there is no place in the State of Texas that supports their youth more than Celina (no matter the activity). Every kid in the community is supported by the entire community. It is truly unique. Posted by: Steve Tune | August 20, 2006 11:26 AM
  2. Wow big, big win for Jonny and company! Biggest I can recall in some time!
  3. Yes we will.
  4. Yes it will. I am working on updating the Mean Green Recruiting database right now. Right now we have mostly Dickey-era prospects but I expect that Dodge will consider some of them and add a whole bunch of new ones to the list. This will not be a pay site, however we will ask you to provide information to us before you get access so we know you can be trusted. I am also looking at adding a premium recruiting board on here so people can discuss recruits and information. Be on the lookout for updates very soon.
  5. http://www.dallasblog.com/david-mcnabbs-high-school-spor/ Posted on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 12:52PM by dave mcnabb | Post a Comment | Email | Print <H2 class=title>Haltom's George leaves for UNT/Sooners get another WR/McKinney meets Thursday </H2>Haltom coach Clayton George has left to become Todd Dodge's first staff member at North Texas. George was a receiver at North Texas from 1990-93 while Dodge was a UNT assistant and worked with Dodge from 1996 through 2004 at Carrollton Newman Smith and Southlake Carroll. He became Hillcrest coach in 2005 and was Haltom's coach in '06. George has started contacting recruits for North Texas. Dodge is unable to recruit while the Southlake Carroll Dragons prepare for the Class 5A Division I state final against Austin Westlake at 7 p.m. Saturday in San Antonio's Alamodome.

  7. I have already entered the Mean Green Football Banquet in the new slick calendar feature and hope to add many more important ones as we go forward. If you are aware of an important Mean Green or UNT event that we need on there please let me know via PM.
  8. Guys you are going to like this new board! Besides making us a lot less vulnerable to spam attacks, there are some cool features that make visiting more fun. I particularly like the calendar but also the PM stuff is nice. You can edit your posts in realtime with the rich text editor feature now. Anyway thanks very much to Cerebus and John Denver for their help in getting the software loaded and a BIG THANK YOU to the volunteers who helped us pay for the software!!!!! Also also stay tuned as the front page is coming soon and recruiting updates are right around the corner. GMG! PS another nice addition - new emoticons!!!
  9. Yes we are. The good news for Coach Dodge is there is talent. Coach Dickey did not burn a lot of redshirts and did the program right in that particular regard. Santiago will be joining guys like Marquis Sykes, Craig Robertson, Robbie Gordon and others who should raise the level of play.
  10. I hear that Gilmore has gotten things back on track. He will be a nice addition to the defense.
  11. Dodge headed to North Texas after season ends http://www.mckinneymessenger.com/articles/...ws/news%200.txt BY RICKY MOORE, Staff Writer (Created: Wednesday, December 13, 2006 9:03 PM CST) | Text Size | Print Version | E-mail This Story Advertisement DENTON — Just moments after being introduced as the new head football coach at the University of North Texas Tuesday night, Todd Dodge’s thoughts turned back to his players at Carroll. Dodge spotted a group of North Texas football players in the back of the room and spoke to them. “I’ve got a journey with some guys just like you,” he said. “They are a little bit younger than you are now, but in the big picture of things I’m hoping to finish my journey with my team now and then get a chance to meet you.” Dodge added he is looking forward to starting his journey with the players at North Texas. Dodge, 43, will take over as the 16th head football coach at North Texas effective after Dec. 23, North Texas Athletics Director Rick Villarreal announced. Since arriving at Carroll in 2000, Dodge has posted a record of 96-11 and has led the Dragons to three state championships, four consecutive state championship appearances and seven straight playoff appearances. Dodge came to Carroll after head coaching stints at Cameron Yoe, Carrollton Newman Smith and Keller Fossil Ridge. Carroll plays Allen at 1 p.m. Saturday in a Class 5A Division I state semifinal game. The winner of that game will face the winner of the other semifinal between Pearland and Austin Westlake in the state championship game on Dec. 23 at San Antonio’s Alamodome. Tuesday morning, Dodge talked to his players about leaving Carroll for North Texas. He said he wanted current players and coaching staff and the players and coaches that have been at Carroll over the seven years that they should feel ownership in this. “What we have done together has allowed me to have this opportunity,” Dodge told them. “I’m ready to finish the journey that we have started at Carroll.” Dodge said he did a pretty good job of not losing focus during the team meeting and not getting overly emotional. He also said he doesn’t expect the announcement to affect the squad’s play at all on Saturday. In fact according to Dodge, Tuesday’s practice was one of the best and most spirited of the year. “I don’t think this will get in the way one bit,” Dodge said. “We take a lot of pride in saying no excuses. There are not going to be anyone excuses. We are going to be result oriented. We are not going to use any distractions as excuses.” North Texas is familiar territory for Dodge. In 1992-93, he served as offensive coordinator for the Mean Green under Dennis Parker in 1992-93. “My family and I are extremely excited for the opportunity to return to the Mean Green football program, which is very near to our hearts,” Dodge said. “We have fond memories of our time at North Texas, and I truly believe that my two years as the offensive coordinator here really set the groundwork for the successes that I have achieved as a head football coach.” Dodge, who has been honored as the Schutt Sports and USA Today National Coach of the Year, feels like he is representing Texas High School football coaches by taking over the program at North Texas. “It is not very often that a guy like me gets and opportunity like this,” he said. Dodge plans to put together his coaching staff at North Texas as soon as possible and some of those coaches will be culled from the staff at Carroll. “There will be some coming with me,” Dodge said. Speculation is that Haltom head coach Clayton George, who played receiver at North Texas from 1990-93 and former offensive coordinator at Carroll, will likely join the Dodge’s staff possibly at offensive coordinator. Carroll Athletics Director Ronnie Tipps said the search for Dodge’s replacement won’t begin until the football season ends. But he would like the get a new coach in place as soon as possible to get the off-season program going. Dodge said he like a hand in choosing his successor and is looking forward to being a player’s dad next season. Dodge’s son Riley, a junior, is the Dragons starting quarterback.
  12. You claim this guy has been courteous to us yet he starts a thread titled "How bad is it at UNT"... With friends like that who needs enemies??
  13. I mentioned that - I think his name is Travis Pride?? He coached at SLC under Dodge and then was given the Head job at Wichita Falls. Thought to be an outstanding coach at the high school level.
  14. Just the fact that he is visiting here is a feather in our cap. The style of offense that Coach Dodd runs will attract better skill position players than we have had in past seasons.
  15. Lay off Vito. He does a good job and gives us more coverage than anyone else. He's been in the unfortunate position of having to cover a team that has regressed significantly in the past couple of years. Timmy Mac did a good job but there were some others before him that were horrible. That UT grad is one that comes to mind I forget his name...
  16. I am going to tell you guys right now that these will go very very fast.

  18. 10. The 10 Spot would hereby like to congratulate North Texas for hiring Todd Dodge, a wildly successful high school coach at Texas' Southlake Carroll, as its head football coach. That's something we would like to see more often. There are many terrific coaches at the high school level, and running a big-time high school program isn't that different than operating a small Division I operation. Of course, poor Gerry Faust nearly blew up the preps-to-college bridge permanently when he appeared overmatched when Notre Dame hired him straight out of Moeller High in 1981. Yes, running a college program, especially a major-college one, is about more than just Xs and Os -- there's the huge emphasis on recruiting as well as serving as the public face of a university. But you can't tell me that someone like coach J.T. Curtis of John Curtis High outside New Orleans, who has won 21 state titles, couldn't run a college program. I mention Curtis only because I know of him from my days covering prep football in Louisiana, back when I actually interviewed people and wrote normal stories, but there are others like him across the nation. It's just that college athletic directors are so worried about being second-guessed after the Faust fiasco that they don't want to take a chance. Similarly, a big-time high school coach isn't going to leave his relatively exalted spot to be, say, a low-paid running back coach at the college level. Anyway, we're rooting for Dodge to succeed so that more high school coaches get the same opportunity.
  19. Why is Craig so negative? It came across like he was to be the bad cop while Georgio was the good one... Craig is hard to figure out sometimes. For someone who purports to care very little about UNT football he sure gets emotional in his negativity about it.

  22. We are planning to have one either Thursday or Friday night. A lot of thoughts to share. This has been one of the more memorable experiences I have had since following the program.
  23. From the old coach forum - I believe Pride is coaching at Wichita Falls now. http://www.theoldcoach.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=41992 Coach Pride has college coaching experience so this makes perfect sence. You now know who the qb and receiver coaches are. Clayton George OC and receivers Travis Pride QB and receivers: Yes, I know Coach Dodge will coach the QB'S also but just like Coach Briles you have to have someone working w/ them when you are not available just my opinion from the scouting trail
