Division 1 Big Men Transfers With Local Ties
Harry replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Perhaps we should ask Coach Dodge if he would let us borrow Esteban Santiago for a season or two? He would certainly take up some space in the paint -
After the NCAA bid I think you will see better support. I think with the players Johnny is landing fans are optimistic about the future and will attend more games.
-
Nice find Steve!
-
I am thinking 2 but like you not certain. Supposing there are 2 and one goes to Odufuwa, what to do with the other one? How bout another big body?
-
To me these are all good changes for all parties involved. Now lets bring in the beef!
-
Ouch he's a good one. I wonder how his supporting cast looks at NO next season?
-
Spoke with Scott's Dad and it sounds like Scott is soon to be tying the knot. The Hall family sent their best wishes to everyone. It sounds like Scott is doing really well in private business. He also shared with me that Coach Dodge and his staff welcomed Scott back with open arms when he was last in Denton and praised him for his accomplishments.

That's a shame. Doesn't anyone have any loyalty to their hometown school anymore? Could he not make a great college program playing at North Crowley? You have to keep money out of the high school game...

I liked Michael but don't kid yourself, this is good for him and us. He was exposed against Memphis at the point and I honestly don't think he is a good enough shooter to play off guard and too short to play swing. This will open up a spot for a big man. With all of the point guard talent and as good as Collin Dennis is supposed to be Michael would have garnered precious few minutes this coming season.

Has Edwards officially transferred?

http://meangreen.beloblog.com/ George Odufuwa planned to sit down with his high school coach Royce Johnson on Thursday night to talk about where he might transfer, a source with knowledge of the situation said early Thursday. The source went on to say the former Dallas Kimball standout was leaning toward committing to North Texas and planned to make a decision in the next few days.</H3>Johnson, a former Mean Green player, declined to comment other than to say UNT was high on Odufuwa's list. UNT hosted Odufuwa on a visit to campus earlier this week. If the 6-7 power forward follows through and transfers from Arizona State to UNT, the Mean Green would have the big man it has been looking for to cap what would without a doubt be the best recruiting class of Johnny Jones' tenure at UNT that is entering its seventh season. Odufuwa was ranked No. 19 in Texashoops.com's list of the top players in the state in the class of 2006. UNT has already secured a commitment from Brewster Academy guard/small forward Tristan Thompson, who was ranked No. 18 in the same class after his senior year at Angleton. Point guard Josh White is ranked No. 10 in the class of 2007 in Louisiana and Midland College transfer Ryan McCoy was No. 40 in Texas in the class of 2005. Throw in Mesa (Ariz.) Community College shooting guard Adam McCoy, who was one of the top 3-point shooters in the junior college ranks last season, and UNT would have a standout class. Odufuwa would have to sit out a season after transferring, but would immediately fill the void in the Mean Green's frontcourt left by the graduation of Keith Wooden and Quincy Williams after next season. UNT could play Odufuwa at the center spot with Harold Stewart at power forward and have Justin Howerton available to come off the bench. Adding Odufuwa would leave UNT over the scholarship limit, a situation the Mean Green would have to work through in the next few months. Just don't expect that to be a deterrent if UNT can land a fifth player for its recruiting class. Harold Edwards decided to transfer after last season and could be just the first of a few players who depart to find a school where they would get more playing time.

Drcblog Odufuwa's Former Coach Says Nt High On Forwards List
Harry replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I think there are exceptions but for the most part you are right Cooley. Calvin Watson was a good player for us. A good influence on the team too. I thought the point guard from Louisiana would have been a fine player for us until he left for personal problems. Stewart has potential. Edwards was a bust and the jury is still out on Howerton although I'm skeptical. Quincy has been a decent player. Our best players have been jucos and transfers though. I think here you need a mix of both. -

CMJ is right, the timing of the tourney will not help as much in this years class as much as it will next years. -
With the NCAA bid and a nice looking recruiting class, I can't say that I have felt better about Mean Green Hoops since following the program. It appears we are recruiting a higher caliber of player and have some stability with Johnny signing a fairly long term contract. I am actually looking forward to next season and it has been awhile since I could say that. I've always believed that our hoops program had tremendous potential and it appears that we are finally starting to gain some momentum!

http://meangreen.beloblog.com/ George Odufuwa, a 6-7 forward who could be the big man North Texas needs to fill out its best recruiting class in several years, was on campus over the weekend and visited with the Mean Green's coaching staff.</H3>The former Dallas Kimball standout originally signed with Arizona State out of high school. Texashoops.com rated him No. 19 on its list of the top seniors in the state following the 2006 season. Ironically, Odufuwa ranked one spot behind Tristan Thompson on Texashoops.com's list Thompson recently committed to UNT after spending a year in prep school at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. Odufuwa would have to sit out a season if he transferred to UNT, but would then have three years of eligibility remaining. He appears as if he would fill an immediate need for the Mean Green, which will lose Keith Wooden and Quincy Williams from its front line after next season. Odufuwa averaged 18 points and nine rebounds a game as a senior at Kimball, despite battling an Achilles tendon injury for a large portion of the year. Odufuwa played sparingly his freshman season ASU, averaging 0.7 points and 0.8 rebounds a game. UNT has already had success with one transfer from ASU in Wooden, who played a key role for the Mean Green last season after spending his first two seasons playing with the Sun Devils. Discussion of Josh on LSU Site: http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/Message...801443&Pg=1 NOLA Article on Top 10 http://www.nola.com/weblogs/print.ssf?/mtl...rint192173.html Note from Louisville Kentucky Newspaper Courier Journal Columnist Jody Demling: Baton Rouge Christian Life guard Josh White is listed at 5-foot-9 (and that might be getting a boost from a teammate) but he can flat play. White had a HUGE game in a 79-74 overtime win ober Bryan Station with 31 points, five rebounds and five assists. He was 11-for-11 from the free-throw line and 9 of 15 from the field. White hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime after his team had blown a 12-point lead.

http://meangreen.beloblog.com/ UNT signs Josh White - A source close to the North Texas men's basketball program said Tuesday that Josh White, a 5-10 point guard from Baton Rouge, La. has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Mean Green. Rivals.com ranks White No. 10 on its list of the top 10 players in Louisiana. For more on White check the blog later today or tomorrow's edition of the Denton Record-Chronicle. John "Tab" Slaughter played center for State back about 4 years ago. Anyway he is working in sales in my company now and is an awesome guy. Knows Arkstfan, Mitch Maher and many others. He played center against Brandon Kennedy and raved about BK's ability although he said OU's Tommy Harris was the greatest overall athlete he ever played against. He played against us in the game in Jonesboro where George Marshall made that amazing catch with seconds left in the rain. Anyway great guy and small world! Arkstate fans should be real proud of this young man - he is a class act!
