Wasn't jumping on anyone. Just a difference of opinion. I've always been a big fan of Tomlin though so I guess I am biased.

Cooley - have you seen this kid play? He may not be the perfect size but his attitude and aggression are hard to miss. We can put more size on him w/a redshirt year, but you can't teach aggression. I think he will play safety for us - that's where I would put him.

This is a player that I really really like. He plays much bigger than his size and is very intense/physical. Very nice pickup for the Mean Green!!!

Cool!

Looking at the Troy's, MTSU's and now powerhouse IAA Western Kentucky I beg the question, will anyone ever be able to repeat the 4 straight conference championship run? Bottomline, the Sun Belt is getting better. It has some good young coaches (Stockstill, Shannon, Dodge) some coaches with skins on the wall (Blakeny and Schnelly). I don't see it happening again. I think a 2-year outright run will prove difficult.

In my opinion you can never have enough quality quarterback prospects. It breeds competition and makes them all push hard to be their very best. I hope we never again get ourselves into a situation like we were when Byerly flunked out. We had to rely on a freshman (Meager) who wasn't ready. You ought to have 3-4 quality quarterback prospects every single year especially in an offense like Dodge's.

Big News From The Letterman's Fish Fry
Harry replied to Green Means Go!'s topic in Mean Green Football
31,000 is a good number. It will increase the value of the ticket and ensure a full house. Once we get to where we are consistently filling up the stadium then we can take advantage and add on capacity. I think we should follow SMU's lead on this. -
Nice find Bobby! Really good news. Hope all is well my friend.

Drc 1st Fb Commitment Hillcrest Athlete Will Play For Mg

"North Texas is close to home, so my family can come and see my games." I think that will be a recurring theme in our recruiting from now on...as well it should be. -
http://thefacts.com/story.lasso?ewcd=99bf5552e762634f Wildcat star bound for Northeast prep school By Joel Luna The Facts Published June 20, 2006 ANGLETON — With an array of alluring choices set before him, the All-Brazoria County most valuable player in basketball opted for Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H. Tristan Thompson had many offers, including Kansas University, University of Houston, Wichita State, Colorado University, New Mexico State, George Washington, Texas Tech and at least 50 others who took an interest in the 6-foot-4 shooting guard for the Wildcats. An explosive senior season elevated his status from a pretty good ball player to a McDonald’s All-American Top 200 in the nation. “There was a chance with Kansas, but they were talking about redshirting me so we broke talks off,” Thompson said. “Though I decided not to go there this year, they said they’d like to recruit me for the 2007 season. I need to play right away, and I know that if I would have gone to a major university they were going to redshirt me. Either that, or I was going to get little playing time, and I realized that it would help me to develop my overall game for another year. I didn’t want to sit on a bench for a whole year and just waste it away.” Brewster Academy carries an enrollment of 370 students, and athletically, the small preparatory school has climbed to the ranks of the best in the nation. In the last three years, Brewster has sent 23 players to Division I programs, including the University of North Carolina, University of Connecticut, University of Louisville, Duke University and Providence College. The 17-year-old Thompson had never heard of Brewster Academy until after his last season at Angleton. “I didn’t know anything about them, but now I know they play against top teams from across the nation,” Thompson said. “It’s a real small town, but it just seemed like a great place for me. I hope to continue to develop my point guard skills as well as getting stronger and keep working on my defense.” Thompson finished a two-year varsity career at Angleton in which the Wildcats were 62-10. He accumulated 1,769 career points and helped direct the Wildcats to their first-ever region and state tournament appearances. Angleton lost to eventual state champ Dallas South Oak Cliff in the state semifinal despite Thompson popping in 37 points. Out of the 391 free throw attempts he took during the year, he connected on 340 of them, which gave him an 87 percent ratio. In addition to having the No. 1 free throw percentage in Texas, he was No. 6 in the nation. For his fervor and production on the court, Thompson collected honors and accolades as he piled up the points. Thompson earned most valuable player awards at the Pride of Texas Tournament and the Lee College Tournament, and earned all-tournament recognition at the Florida Beach Blowout. Additionally, he was the District 24-4A most valuable player, earned first-team all-region, first-team all-state and landed on the all-state tournament team. He has continued playing with appearances at the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-star game, Texas High School Coaches Association all-star contest, the Texas versus Oklahoma all-stars and the Adidas all-stars. “One of the main things that was attractive about Tristan was that he is very versatile by playing a multitude of positions,” Brewster Academy coach Jason Smith said. “His coach at Angleton gave him lots of freedom to play inside, the point which put them in position to win. Another thing was how he got to the free throw line so often. With us, I see him playing the one, two or three position. We play in the best league in New England and we will face over 100 kids that will get to Division I programs.” During his senior year, Thompson averaged 26.7 points per contest on only 13.6 shots a game. On top of the team-high points in the state semifinal, Thompson also scored 44 against Channelview in a region quarterfinal contest. But none of the scoring seemed as important as the assist he had with less than five seconds on the game clock to teammate Jarred Morgan, who was under the bucket for a reverse layup and a 88-86 win. “He had to weigh his options to go to a Division I program, but physically, it will benefit him to go to a prep school,” Angleton coach Tommy Penders said. “At the end of his junior year, he was a sound offensive player but only 16 years old. “By his senior year, he matured physically because he was already a confident player,” Penders said. “In practice this year, he worked harder and played harder. Tristan is a guy who can carry a load because he can handle the pressure.” In the final 10 prep poll, Brewster Academy finished No. 8 in the nation. Brewster competes in the New England Prep School Association Conference Class A division. It is where Thompson is hoping to make a mark miles away from home. Wow Brewster has some talent. Look where these guys are signing to play in college. http://www.brewsteracademy.org/athletics/t...etball_boys.php

Little known factoid about Tristan, Mother was a hall of fame basketball player at Texas A&M, Kingsville. So good bloodlines!

I know Howerton has put on weight but I just hate seeing him get pushed around by smaller players. I hope he is hitting the weight room hard this offseason. Also would love to see him develop a baby hook or some time of offensive threat that opposing teams would have to respect somewhat. I haven't given up on the kid - he has heart and effort and I respect and appreciate that.
-
I personally didn't see enough potential in him last year but I'm hoping I am wrong. Seem like with Odowufu sitting out there will be a lot of pressure on Howerton to step up and perform this year to rest Quincy and Keith. Any opinions on Howerton? Could he turn a corner this year or is he a bench warmer?
-
Wow great class! What does the starting lineup look like this year? Ben Bell is point, shooting guard is Colin Dennis. Harold Stewart is the athletic swing and down Low you got big Keith and Quincy. Adam McCoy the 6th man that hits the threes? Whadya think? I like the depth especially at point. Sounds pretty athletic to me. Fast forward to 2008-09 and you have Ryan McCoy and White tandem at point, Dennis back at sg w/Adam McCoy, Stewart back at swing With Tristan, Odofuwu and Howerton down low. The biggest thing about this class is how it solidifies us at the point guard position for several years especially if White is as adevrtised. The only area of weakness is in the paint especially after next season. If Johnny can land a couple of big bodies down low watch out this could be a dynasty!

Adman has a point.

How do you pronounce Odufuwa? Also keep in mind, Odufuwa doesn't count towards this years class he will actually be class of 2008-09 since he has to sit out a year. He will then have 3 years of eligibility left which is pretty sweet.

Sounds like a good player! I believe he was the #29 forward in the country according to Rivals the year he graduated. http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-bask...a_george00.html
