Could it be anyone other than Quinn? The guy was just amazing. My favorite play was on a long touchdown pass at Baylor about 3 years ago. From the vintage era, David Brown, Luis Silva (TE) and for sheer athleticism (not hands) Brod McGrew.

Love your write ups man!

I would guess they will look at Woody at safety and cornerback first. He was being recruited by the SEC as a safety.

Nice report appreciate your insight.

MY RESPONSES IN CAPS. ATTENDANCE 1. Will the FAU home opener exceed 25,000 ? The first Dodge Ball game at Fouts ? IT'S ENTIRELY POSSIBLE AND PLAUSIBLE. IF YOU TAKE THE SPRING GAME AS A BENCHMARK OF THE INTEREST IN DODGE'S PROGRAM REVIVAL WE WOULD HAVE OVER 5 TIMES THE NORMAL 20K+ ATTENDANCE. 2. Could the Mean Green actually have more in attendance that smoo at Ford, making their home stadium more green than red ? NO I THINK SMU IS STARTING TO BUILD INTEREST HOWEVER IF WE PLAY WELL AT OU I THINK IT COULD BE ONE OF OUR BIGGEST NON-CONFERENCE ATTENDED GAMES EVER. I THINK A LOT OF LOCALS WILL ATTEND JUST OUT OF INTEREST. 3. Could/will the Navy game set a single game attendance record at Fouts, exceeding the 29.437 at the '03 Baylor game ? I THINK THAT DEPENDS ON HOW IT IS PROMOTED. IF WE GET THE SERVICE PEOPLE THERE FOR FREE OR AT A DEEP DISCOUNT IT WILL RIVAL THE BAYLOR GAME. 4. Will the first year of Dodge Ball set a North Texas all time season record for attendance/average attendance ? I THINK THIS IS A LONGSHOT BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE A REGIONAL BIG 12 FOE LIKE BAYLOR OR OKIE STATE. IT COULD DEPENDING ON HOW WELL WE PLAY. IF WE ARE IN THE HUNT FOR THE SBC LATE IT COULD BE A GREAT GREAT SEASON. TEAM SURPRISES Seen this quote ? "Dodge has the offense, but doesn't have the players for his offense". 1. Are there more players on the team that have come from and are familiar with a spread type offense than people realize ? I THINK THERE ARE JUST NOT ENOUGH OF THEM. YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER WE HAVE 4-5 TIGHT ENDS THAT STILL AREN'T SURE WHAT POSITION THEY PLAY. LINEMEN ARE USED TO RUN BLOCKING PRIMARILY AND THE ENTIRE OFFENSE WAS VERY FOCUSED ON PLAY ACTION. 2. Will the Dodge system of coaching/teaching move this team into the new offense quicker than expected ? YES! 3. Frequently on other boards, it's predicted that Meager will throw a bunch of picks. If he is the starting QB, will we see a totally different Meager that's a weapon and not viewed as a liability ? I THINK DANNY WILL PLAY WELL. HE HAS BEEN REBORN IN THIS SYSTEM. HIS BIGGEST ISSUE IS CONFIDENCE. DANNY HAS THE CHANCE TO BE A TWO YEAR STARTER FOR THIS PROGRAM UNDER DODGE OR HE WILL BE A TRANSITIONAL QB THAT WILL PASS THE REIGNS ON TO THE ITALIAN STALLION. IT'S UP TO HIM. 4. Will discipline and coaching make this team harder to beat because they no longer shoot themselves in the foot with the usual rash of drive stopping, stupid penalties ? I THINK THAT THIS MAY BE THE BIGGEST AREA OF IMPROVEMENT. WHEN YOU WATCH SOUTHLAKE THEY WOULD OCCAISIONALLY GET PENALTIES FOR OVER AGRESSION AND MAN THE POOR BASTARDS THAT WE CAUGHT WERE TREATED LIKE LEPERS ON THE SIDELINES. 5. Does anyone here really beleive that this team will finish as low as most of the prognostigators predict or will they be the surprise team of the Belt and put Mean back in the Green ? I THINK THIS WILL BE A TOUGH YEAR BECAUSE THEY ARE TRYING TO CHANGE A PHILOSOPHY ENGRAINED FOR CLOSE TO A DECADE. DICKEY LEFT THE FRONT LINES IN A SHAMBLES. I THINK SIGNS OF THE FUTURE WILL START SHOWING IN MIDSEASON AND EVEN THOUGH WE DON'T WIN THE BELT THERE IS MAJOR REASONS FOR OPTIMISM LATE IN THE YEAR. GOLDEN PARACHUTE I've seen a few post indicating, right or wrong, that the WAC would only consider going to 10 if North Texas were to say yes. 1. Is North Texas the only Sun Belt team that could actually have another option by just saying "yes" to another conference ? Not advocating anything, but is this option actually there because of Tech's isolation ? I THINK THAT NORTH TEXAS HAS THE STRONGEST CASE TO BE ADMITTED IN CUSA OF ALL OF THE SUN BELT TEAMS BECAUSE OF LOCATION AND SIZE. I ALSO THINK THAT NORTH TEXAS HAS MORE POLITICAL ENEMIES ESPECIALLY AMONG THE PRIVATE SCHOOLS BECAUSE OF OUR POTENTIAL TO DOMINATE. I THINK SMU IS IN THE DRIVERS SEAT AS FAR AS CUSA LEADERSHIP BECAUSE GERALD TURNER HAS DONE SUCH A GREAT JOB AND THEM HAVING SO MUCH POWER MIGHT NOT BODE WELL FOR US.

Big X I I Picks - Oklahoma Vunerable Early ?
Harry replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
The problem we will have at OU is not their quarterback, it is their offensive line. I believe the average around 6-5, 310 pounds with one of them at 6-8, 335! Our defensive line will probably average about 6-2, 270...do the math. -
I like this sign bt it still doesn't address the fact that we don't have a physical imposing hitter at the safety spot. I am hoping that Roy Loren fits that bill this season but we need to get some younger guys that will be here for awhile. Perhaps the young man from Vernon will fit that bill.

Drc Vitto's Blog, More On 2007 Loi Cb Roman

North Texas football: Cornerback, special teams player picks Mean Green 05:21 AM CDT on Saturday, June 23, 2007 By Brett Vito/Staff Writer Evyn Roman grew up in the San Francisco area and took a recruiting trip to Hawaii recently. And yet, North Texas turned out to be the place where the College of San Mateo defensive back wanted to continue his football career. Roman visited UNT earlier this week and signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday. The two-time All-NorCal Conference selection is the 21st member of UNT's 2007 recruiting class. The Mean Green has seven other players who have given UNT oral commitments for its 2008 class that will not become binding until national signing day on Feb. 7. "I have taken a lot of trips this offseason to different schools," Roman said. "Once I got to Denton, I realized that it is where I am supposed to be. It's a great college town. I am lucky to be a part of Coach [Todd] Dodge's first recruiting class. He is inspiring. He makes you want to be a better student-athlete and player." Roman, 5-9, 177, is projected to play cornerback and return kickoffs and punts at UNT, where he will have two years of eligibility remaining. He finished with three interceptions as a sophomore, and he also returned a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown. UNT lost its top kick and punt return specialists when wide receivers Johnny Quinn and Zach Muzzy completed their careers last season. Roman also had scholarship offers from Hawaii and South Dakota State. He plans to move to Denton in the next few weeks to begin preparing for his junior season. The addition of Roman represents a departure from the recruiting strategy shown early on in Dodge's tenure at UNT. The Mean Green's new head coach signed just one junior college player for his first recruiting class. Every other member of Dodge's first recruiting class also had Texas ties. "They felt like they needed a guy," Roman said. "It seemed like it was meant to be. I was getting ready to decide between Hawaii and South Dakota State." UNT had sophomores Antoine Bush and Dominique Green at the top of its depth chart at cornerback at the end of spring practice. Baylor transfer Latif Nurudeen appeared as if he would push for a starting job until he was injured late in spring practice. San Mateo coach Larry Owens expects Roman to compete for playing time right away at UNT, despite being undersized. "Evyn is a very talented young man who has great determination and is a hard worker," Owens said. "He will be able to play at the Division I level. He is one of those guys who responds if you put a challenge in front of him." Signing a scholarship with UNT represented a milestone in a comeback from what proved to be a tough year for Roman. The former Kennedy (Fremont, Calif.) High standout played at San Mateo as a freshman before he sat out a season due to a series of illnesses and personal problems. "I got sick with a couple of colds and my parents moved out of the Bay Area," Roman said. "I missed a lot of school because I was sick and was commuting a long distance. My coach and family decided it would be best to take a year off." Roman dropped off the recruiting radar of several California schools before he came back and was named San Mateo's defensive MVP for as a sophomore. The Mean Green's coaches only started recruiting Roman in the last few weeks, but became involved just in time to convince him to transfer to UNT. "Evyn really liked North Texas and the environment," Owens said. "What I took from it was they were in the market for a defensive back and liked what Evyn could do. It all worked out." Probably not - however the configuration of the practice facility allows for you to have a pretty good vantage point from outside the gates.

http://meangreen.beloblog.com/ After more than six months of debate, North Texas made a decision on the name of its football practice fields. They will be named the Darrell R. Dickey Football Practice Facility. The name was added to the sign next to the fields today. UNT officials were set to name the fields after booster Jim McIngvale, who donated $1 million toward construction of the Mean Green Athletic Center. McIngvale later came back and asked that they be named after Dickey shortly after UNT's head football coach was fired last season. Dickey and McIngvale later requested they be named after Andrew Smith, a former UNT quarterback who died in a car accident. In the end, UNT named the fields after Dickey, a move the school's Board of Regents approved. I will be in the minority on this one, but naming the fields after Dickey was the right move. Dickey led UNT to four straight Sun Belt Conference titles and the Mean Green Athletic Center was built largely because of McIngvale's donation, one he gave the university partly because of his friendship with Dickey. Dickey's teams hit the skids his last two seasons, but what he accomplished in his four-year run in the Sun Belt moved the program forward. Dickey's tenure is worth honoring, and naming the practice fields named after him is the best way to do just that. For more on the new Darrell R. Dickey Football Practice Facility, see tomorrow's edition of the Denton Record-Chronicle.

As a side note to this, I was in Denton today to pick up my daughter who participated in Hedlund's awesome soccer camp and noticed that Dodge was doing ANOTHER camp for QB's and Receivers... I mean this guy is turning our athletic center into a football prospect factory!

Damn I hate Muts. -
There were some comments and articles indicating that Lance had been involved in an altercation at Haltom and I just wanted to clear the air about the incident and let everyone know what a good kid he is. In Lance's junior season he had a new coach at Haltom who installed a "towel" drill which is much like a tug-of-war between two players. This coach told the players "let the best man win" and basically left it wide open and did not provide any rules of engagement. During the incident, Lance accidentally leaned into the other players groin. He immediately apologized. At the time, nothing was said, the player walked off and did not cry or indicate any injury. A couple of days later at school a police officer showed up due to a complaint filed by the other kids parents. Anyway it turns out that these same parents filed a complaint against another player in their son's freshman year! This entire incident was nothing more than an accident in a uncontrolled practice situation where accidents can happen. Anyway, this was a clear case of over zealous parents getting involved in a situation that didn't require their intervention. I have this information from someone I trust greatly who was closely associated with the program there and who is very familiar with Lance and knows what a good person he is. Anyway I just wanted make sure everyone knew the real story. I also have learned that Lance had offers from, Colorado, Ok State, Virginia, Iowa State and Texas Tech. He also had heavy interest from Kansas, A$M and Missouri. He is an OUTSTANDING athlete that is tailormade for Dodge's offense as he has tremendous speed, cutting ability and great hands out of the backfield. He wanted to stay closer to home and has tremendous respect for Coach Dodge and his staff. GMG!

Dickey believed that the tight end was the difference maker because of their versatility and ability to play multiple positions. It's just a completely different philosophy with Dodge.

Looks like Dunbar was another big pickup for Coach Clayton George. George was Head Coach at Haltom when Dunbar was there.
