I would like to thank everyone for this forum to talk about UNT sports! I am a UNT alumni and got interested in UNT athletics when my youngest son started playing sports. Neither of my sons will watch games on TV so we started making it out to games. Basketball games are way more accessible than football so it has turned out to be an excellent family activity. They are both kinda shy, but when they bring their friends or cousins to the game they get loud! I am addicted now and have found there is no one out there that I can talk Mean Green Basketball with! No one cares! Baylor, Tech, A&M, UT or even TCU on the other hand? I don't really care about them. 😂 So I sincerely that you all!!! GMG

If WVU is paying him like three times what we did, I doubt the luncheon fiasco had a whole lot to do with this.

The simple reason is incompetence combined with indifference and apathy along with a little bit of disdain.

A very North Texas thing to do 😆. Time for UNT to realize it is a basketball school. Build a legit basketball arena and become an elite mid major.

I know we're all upset about losing Hodge. Baring any unexpected promotions, it's effectively the end of the gritty defensive era we've grown to love over almost a decade. A few years ago, I'd read posts on the football forum saying that if we could become P5 launch pad for up and coming headcoaches, we'd be in a great position for continued success. If only we could have a couple head coaches be very successful and get plucked away, we could become known as a place coaches come to make a name for themselves and North Texas would become a desirable job as a place to jumpstart careers instead of burying them. With the news that Hodge is leaving to WVU, we've now had back-to-back head coaches hired away by Big 12 schools in the span of 3 years. When's the last time that's happened here? I can promise you, agents of coaches at various low and mid-majors are contacting their clients and pointing to the school in Denton, America as the place to be. The same goes for assistant coaches at high-majors/P5 who want to become a head coach. Want that big-time job? Come to UNT. The portal helps us even more now that most coaches know they're mostly starting over next season. Might as well start over at the BIG 12 head coach mill. We all know coaches come and go. We all prefer they be hired away rather than fired. Today is bittersweet but the future still looks bright. There will be no shortage of qualified applicants looking to wear green in the AAC as the leader of the Mean Green next season.

Plan ahead. They did it exactly like you have described because they are academia and have never run a real business. Kind of like career politicians trying to meet a budget.

Bless his heart. His knowledge and skill in media sports will be felt for generations. He was a wonderful man and was absolutely sweet and kind to everyone he met. He loved North Texas so very much. Those of us who had him in our lives, if even for a short time were blessed to have done so. Prayers for him and his family. Rick

You cannot tell me that this fiasco with the luncheon did not impact Ross deserting us for WVA! Head should absolutely roll on this. This ABSOLUTELY impacted our ability to renew Ross. Only at UNT. Only at UNT would this travesty happen.

You tell these coaches to bring in a winning culture and to build the fanbase....and then you do amateur things like this.

Being a basketball school is more than W's and L's. Its about student cheeks in the seats,support from administration, and NIL dollars, not cents, from alumni. Until we ring all the bells we are a basketball school want-a-be.

Could have had a huge crowd for a NATIONALLY televised game on ESPN. Not ESPN+ or ESPNU or ESPN2 but the actual ESPN leading straight into Sportscenter. I have never been so disappointed in my school.

People laugh about the basketball school stuff but what could we pay our basketball coaches if we lowered the underperforming football salary pool? For those against lowering the football salary pool in favor of basketball, consider this: how upset would you be if Eric Morris was hired away today and how does that compare to the potential of losing Hodge?

This is one of those times when the entire University should have come together to ensure that these games stayed in Denton. There is no excuse for moving these games.

This is on the President and BOR. 1. Why schedule a staff appreciation in the SP? Was Jerry World unavailable? 2. At most, you need half the floor. Wall off one half and cover the other. 3. Dinner, if it must be there, is over at 1:30pm. That leaves you 2 1/2 to 3 hours to clear half the floor and reset it. Easily done. 4. I applaud UNT for having this event for staff, but let’s not be so myopic that the university doesn’t understand the ability to host a quarterfinal that will put eyes on our university, something all the staff combined can’t do. 5. Put forth the effort. Show that it matters. All hands on deck to make it happen. 6. Think about the revenue being left on the table for the school and city. Let’s see Denton step up and help make this happen. If it’s a manpower issue, send city workers to help. Prove there is a university/city partnership and make it happen. 7. If they want it to happen, it will. If it doesn’t happen, I want to hear an explanation from our new president. Not some prepared statement b.s., but a stand at a podium, from the horse’s mouth, allowing questions at the end comment.

I think the advantage we have, if there is any advantage at all, is access to a mass population and the opportunity to play at home? And that’s what we have to offer high school kids, mostly. Which is why I have always felt we have a really good chance to build a dominant softball team due to access to phenomenal local talent, and the limited local softball schools we compete against for recruits(2)? But of course, in this era of professional college sports the HS kid is getting crapped on, especially in basketball. But any advantage we may gain we piss away every time we hire yet another apathetic employee making the decisions for the entire university. So now I’ve chosen to spend my free time and hard earned money…. ….in my front yard, working on the Dirty Blond and travel. Rick

Between our two basketball teams, we’ve played in, and hosted basketball tournaments as late as March 30th in (correct me if I’m wrong) six of the last eight seasons. How about we plan ahead for next March, NOW, and avoid ever allowing such an embarrassing cluster phuck from happening again? Rick

I have learned the details behind Luncheon-Gate and am deeply saddened at the state of our alma mater. Mosley's original sin was he should have contacted the President and the BOR the second after SMUt lost their game to OSU. They could have changed the deal had he done that. Secondly, Dr. Keller did his best impression of Simon Peter when he denied Jesus after he had been arrested. Keller had a chance to be a UNT hero but instead he took the easy way out and turned his back on us. This would have been the highest attended game in the possibly the history of UNT. Students were back, the weather was nice, OSU is in a power conference close by that would travel in large numbers. This has to be one of the worst possible decisions in the history of UNT lore, right up there with painting the SuperPit seats orange and leaving the Missouri Valley conference.

Can you really blame him, only person in the AD area with any brass balls is Coach Burton for calling out the garbage on not being able to host. At least if Hodge goes to WVU, Baker is not a complete simp to the administration unlike our current leader

I can’t think of a bigger missed opportunity in the 30 years that I have been associated with this school.

Not a fan of Mosely. Stupid mistake and now nothing but lame excuses trying to defend there lack of action. The. " Luncheon" has morphed into a National Embrassment in college athletics. The Leadership of UNT have set back any positives they have gained in since Mosely came on board. This stupid mistake will have a impact on NT Atheltics for the future in all sports. Just my opinion.

I have been very critical of Mosley this week, but he has proven to be WAY better at hiring basketball coaches than he has been at reserving university venues.

I am more mad that our university denied our student body, alumni, and community the opportunity to host a Big 12 opponent on national television with no other college basketball games on. It is absolutely absurd and people need to be held accountable. Coach Hodge was probably out the door anyways. But our leadership screwed this one up royally and denied ourselves a perfect opportunity to highlight the best athletic run we've had in decades on a national stage.

I cannot believe UNT administration actually botched a chance to have home court advantage for this regional NIT round venue. With all of the professed blood, sweat and tears this university says it commits to advancing Mean Green athletics into Texas relevance it went and BOTCHED IT YET AGAIN. The UNT/ OSU matchup would have indeed brought a crowd and also captured the limelight from Dallas. Coaches, players, fans we are PROUD OF YOU. UNT ADMINISTRATORS , ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL.

He took me under his wing when I was 18 allowing me into his class as a freshman and putting me on the radio with him when I was 19. At one point, we had a radio talk show together on KDNT. Thank you Bill for your mentoring of me and for teaching me skills I use in my career today .

This is the most North Texas thing ever. Have the team play a great game in front of probably the 2nd best crowd of the year with a walk off shot at the buzzer causing the place to erupt - only to find out we don’t get to host the Big12 opponent who our fans care about and have proven to show out for. Ross has to be beside himself and I don’t blame him. What a kick in the nuts. This has potentially huge ramifications. Going on the road to Stillwater - I swear if we drop that game… For OSU winning an NIT isn't program changing. For us, winning 2 in 3 years is massive program momentum, further cementing us as a Top Shelf mid-major.

Look at Mosley hiding in the tunnel at the end of the game like Nico Harrison! I don’t care who is responsible for scheduling the Pit. It is Mosley’s job to represent the needs of the athletic department to the university. That is what the money is for! We missed an opportunity to host OK State in a postseason basketball game. How many new North Texas basketball fans could that have created? Ross Hodge & the players earned this opportunity. I have always defended Mosley on here, but this is gross negligence.

I think the criticism is mostly directed towards the 19-20 year old men on the dance squad. 😂
