  1. Breaking news! Coach in his 5th season and 2 NCAA tournament appearances makes more than coach in his 2nd season and no tournament appearances. Y'all can't actually be surprised Kennedy makes more, right?

  2. He misunderstood. He could get him a 125Kg co-ed at UTSA, which is considered pretty skinny there.

  3. Really? Do you think employees and students at Texas wear burnt orange every day. Do you think employees and students at A&M wear maroon every day. This is a dumb take. Also, the employees didn't schedule the luncheon or decide where it would be held. So don't dump on them because you're mad about what happened. I know plenty of UNT employees who are just as pissed and embarrassed by the whole situation as the people on this board. Did the AD do anything to try and make it work? Who knows if they even looked into options to make it work. Whatever happened, it's not on the employees who work hard to keep the school up and running.

  6. Will Wade seemed to focus on athletes this past season. Not necessarily the best shooters or biggest guys, just great overall athletes. Just like undersized shooters, defensive guys who can't shoot, small guards, and so on, the high majors can't field a roster full of those guys or they'll be exploited. They can take one, maybe two, guys like that if they're just that exceptional at the one thing they're good at. Too many becomes an issue for them. You know who can take on all of those guys? North Texas. I wouldn't mind a roster full of athletic freaks who can't shoot the 3. Or a roster full of defensive minded guys who are a bit smaller. Or a roster of 3 point shooters who can't dunk. Or a mix of misfits who are being ignored because they're 2 inches too short or their arms are too short or whatever. There's a way for us to keep being successful. Just need a coach who knows how to get what he needs and maximize what he gets.

  7. North Texas: We All Remember 2023 We also probably remember 2022 and 2024, but we really remember 2023. North Texas has made the NIT four times. North Texas has also made the NIT four times in a row. Before 2022? No NIT’s. Since 2022? NIT every year. In 2022, the Mean Green fell to Virginia in overtime in the second round. In 2023, the Tylor Perry and Kai Huntsberry team won it all before Grant McCasland left for Texas Tech. In 2024, the Mean Green fell to Seton Hall in the second round. Seton Hall went on to win the title. The result is a 10–2 all-time NIT record, a staggering mark. But what else is lurking in North Texas’s past? They won the CBI in 2018. Something about the postseason gets these guys going. More: UNT has won each of the TIAA (Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association), Lone Star Conference, Gulf Coast Conference, Southland Conference, Sun Belt Conference, and Conference USA. UNT’s also belonged to the American (their current home), the Missouri Valley, and the Big West, where—you guessed it—they used to play UC Irvine. Hank Dickenson shared that fact with us today. You’ll hear it from him himself on Monday’s episode of Free Hoops. Read more: https://thebarkingcrow.com/2025-nit-final-four-preview-part-i-the-programs/

  8. $1 million in football gets you a few decent transfers and fighting to finish .500. $1 million in basketball can get you a legit group of transfers and competing for championships. We don't have the money to really compete in football. Throw most of what we have at basketball. The NCAA tournament exposure and related credits are too valuable to pass up. I know you've been preaching this already. Just can't help myself but reiterate it because it seems so obvious.

  14. My 0.02 but I think it is very weird to try and go hire Kennedy to Denton. Throw his name in the hat, even just hypothetically, II feel much more comfortable with a handful of others in their.

  17. Guard Jason Edwards, the Commodores’ leading scorer last season, has entered the NCAA transfer portal, per On3. The On3 report said Edwards, who just finished his junior season, will test the NBA Draft process as well. Edwards averaged 17.0 points per game during the 2024-25 season, adding 2.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.9 steals. He was the only member of the Commodores to average more than 11 points per contest. The Parkview, Ga., native shot 43.5 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from three-point range, finishing second on the team behind Tyler Nickel in three-point attempts (184) and three-point shots made (65). Edwards scored at least 20 points in 10 of his 33 games, including a season-best 30 in the Commodores’ win over TCU. Assuming Edwards does not return, he will make another stop on a journey that’s already featured many. The 6-1, 175-pound Edwards redshirted during his first season at Miles College in Alabama in 2021-22, spent 2022-23 at Dodge City Community College in Kansas, and played one season for North Texas of the American Athletic Conference before transferring to Vanderbilt. Edwards is actually the fifth Vanderbilt player to reportedly enter the portal, but only the second who had a significant impact for the Commodores last season. read more: https://www.nashvillepost.com/sports/basketball/vanderbilts-jason-edwards-entering-ncaa-transfer-portal-per-report/article_e34c95ff-f0a6-4f46-8283-68a909dc0200.html

  18. 1] Our basketball coach is getting a $1 million+ per year raise. 2]The employees who were honored didn't schedule the event. 3] The luncheon could/should of been rescheduled 4] If I'm our women's coach I am out the door asap 5] for a university with a good business school we don't know much about good business 6] The decision to hold the luncheon was a failure of leadership at the top , and I don't mean our AD.

  23. if you enjoy seeing mid-major teams and underdog programs have success, the NIT has played out in your favor. No, there were not many power conference teams represented to begin with, but each of the teams had to win three games to reach the semifinals and the four mid-major schools left standing did just that. The NIT's updated bracket has something the NCAA Tournament could never fathom

  24. That may be what we will have to look forward to. At least we have a shot at playing more than one or two postseason games.

  25. Some interesting names. Obviously would love to have Kennedy but Bob Huggins is an interesting name. He is old but has been very successful.

  26. I would hope that Jared asks Ross: "who would you recommend" before he leaves us. But perhaps Ross wants all the assistants for himself at WVU? Maybe he says "go get your own".....

  29. It's 100%... Ok, ok...99% about paying players.
    1 point
  30. It's not always about "paying" players. I don't know what our NIL payout is, but I would guess not all are here for the $$. Ross recruited guys from JUCOs and smaller programs. Sometimes just to move up to our level and have a chance to go to an NIT or NCAA may be what lures them. Like Lorient, he may have been offered just more playing time.. since he was an under-used bench player on FAU...?

  31. UNT is favored to win the NIT this year. That's a good feeling, but also, not. I would never overlook UC Irvine. I was really upset all year because they were getting way more attention that we were all season. 30-6 deserved that I guess.

  34. He was fired from Texas Tech due to a controversial Bible reference. He made the Sweet 16 his first and only full season there. UT Pan Am was 30+ years ago. He was very successful everywhere else. I know he's old. I'm only suggesting him because he's a proven winner who could be here for a few years and groom another young coach. This is an important hire and that Sweet 16 Tech run was just 3 years ago. He's still very much in the game. Had he not been fired for the Bible verse controversy, he'd probably still be winning at Tech and we'd likely still have McCasland.

  35. I'm just a Josh Howard/Mavericks fan.😆 Win or lose, we might get national attention and he beat Rice! So many teams did, though.

  36. Honestly if we want to stay in the current regime’s coaching tree, I’d prefer us interview Grant’s top assistants. I’m just not as terrified of a different approach. Parts of this last week have sucked (luncheon/NIT fiasco & losing Ross) but I‘m not all doom and gloom. Wren and Jared are both basketball guys. I’m also not as pessimistic as some related to Jared’s ability to hire a new coach.

  37. I doubt that any UNT coaches hires are "extremely supplemented by donor dollars." In fact I would be surprised if donors made any meaningful contribution to coaches salaries. This is North Texas in case we need a reminder.

  38. Ok y'all, I'm curious about your thoughts. I know he's an older coach but he is still currently in the game and still seems to want to coach. He's a Texas guy with success at all levels. His winning percentage as HC is .680 and is currently an assistant at Ole Miss. Worth mentioning he was just at ECU last year so he's familiar with current AAC opponents. Would you be OK with Mark Adams leading your Mean Green?

  39. Happy we beat OSU for Sissoko. He was clearly upset he had fouled out and I would have hated for his career to end like that.

  42. It likely depends on how the refs call fouls. If he has 3 fouls late in the first half, we'll be in trouble.

  43. Their big guy takes up a lot of space and gets his share of blocks. Pretty agile with the ball too. He will be a factor. Che is a 6'2" guard that has a nice stroke from the 3-pt line, but he has a bad wing....some sort of issue on his right shoulder. He was still bumping, dribbling and shooting, but when he didn't have the ball is arm was just hanging down and he kept holding it. UAB looked tired and made some uncharacteristic mistakes down the stretch that allowed UCI to hang in there and get the win. I think our defense will be able to frustrate the Anteaters.

  46. It's hard for me to get to fired up for next week. Kinda feels like when your girlfriend dumped you for a better-looking guy. If we win, all of the praise will go to Hodge and not the program and University in general. I will still be watching but not with the same passion. I still root for the name on the front but can't help but feel a little mad that they couldn't have waited until after the last game to make the announcement. Hodge is technically West Virginia's coach now. With all of the player movement in the portal, that is the way things are going to be in college sports. It's a business. Coaches and players are going to do what they think is best for them. Why should they have any loyalty to the schools? We as fans live and die with our school. I'm not going to start being a West Virginia or Texas Tech fan now just because our coach went there.

  47. I honestly can't understand anyone being anything but excited for Ross. Guy has done everything for UNT since he has been here and though there might be a couple, most on this board, would leave their current jobs to go to a different job that was paying life changing money.

  48. hoping this dude jumps back in the portal...averaging 14 and 7 on 60% shooting at a bad SIU program. also leads the team in blocks, third in steals so he works both ends.
