  1. I post this for all the Hodge haters out there. The guy really did care about UNT.

  2. Really just shows a misunderstanding of what a commuter is. Living in an apartment half a mile from campus doesn't make you a commuter even though you're not on campus. 82% of our students living off campus is no different than many other schools.

  3. It sounds like our leadership is just curled up in a fetal position in the corner waiting for everything to go away.

  7. Just some rough numbers...I didn't do a whole lot of research on this just some cursory web searches. The University of Texas enrolls 50,000+ students. They have 7,000 beds on campus in 14 residence halls. They have another 1,900 beds off-campus in university-owned apartments. So, 7,000/50,000 = 14% live on campus in residence halls and 86% live "off-campus." The University of North Texas enrolls around 47,000 students. We have 5,620 beds on campus in 15 residence halls. So, 5,620/47,000 = 12% live on campus in residence halls and 88% live "off-campus." EDIT: Updated information from UNT fact book for the fall of 2024. Total enrollment, 46,180 and 6,425 beds for 6,425/46,180 = 14% live on campus in residence halls. This matches the on-campus housing % for UT. Does anyone consider UT a commuter school? The general story (for us, UT and other universities growing in enrollment) is that demand for on-campus housing far exceeds the supply. If we want to build a new basketball arena, make it a multi-function facility (classrooms and housing - like Ohio State did with its football stadium).

  9. I hated being in a west coast based league in the past. However, after watching our basketball team get stone-walled the past several years while the MWC routinely gets in 4 teams into the tourney....I'd have a hard time not taking them up on the offer, if its serious.

  10. So is the program actually better off today, after Hodge, than what McCasland left 3 years ago? i.e., championships, growth in attendance, roster, marketability (team profile)?

  11. for effs sake we have such a whiny-ass fan base. sometimes all that's needed is copy & paste

  12. I wonder how he will feel when WVU moves a home NIT game to serve the faculty a squirrel-fajita spread?

  13. Good for him. It’s hard to turn down $3million dollars I don’t care who you are. This is reality now at schools like North Texas. Good fans or not, money talks and it speaks loudly. Hopefully we support the new guy better than we supported the last 2 guys. GO MEAN GREEN

  14. we got the three I wanted...time to close that account and go find a 15+ppg scoring guard elsewhere

  15. I've said it here before, if politicians were smart they'd put the clamps on college athletics and equal out media dollars across the board, and set salary caps in an effort to level out the playing field. Looking at Texas alone for example, we could be boosting economy in cities like El Paso, San Marcos, Denton, and Huntsville in addition to the already sports-dependent markets like Austin, College Station, and Lubbock. Instead we'd rather keep the same few markets at the top and let the others struggle. Why you wouldn't want more money circulating is beyond me but I guess anything to keep the top dogs happy.

  18. That's a fantastic post. I especially like the last part about note replacing a foundation, but building from it & honoring it. I think Coach Robinson can do that.

  20. So, because he finished coaching in a tournament where he could add a championship to his resume, it showed a deep abiding love for North Texas?? Man, how lucky for us that he finished the job he was contractually tasked with completing.

  21. Coach Robinson until I hear from him, one of his assistants, or one of his players otherwise.

  22. Coach Hodge is a class act. I wish him nothing but the best. Would be great to get a home & home with WVU.

  23. Quit being such an apologist all the time. He didn't have to kick UNT in the nuts to get his point across. That was just disrespectful and lazy. Say its a tough conference or something else.

  24. Think we’re good on the Cleveland State transfers now. Got the guys we wanted off that roster already.

  25. Yeah, no way we go to the Pac without a cluster of schools around us. Probably the same for UTSA and TXST.

  26. I saw him and maybe assumed since he was from the Cleveland area he felt more tied to the program, but ya, maybe if as a role player. I'm kinda working off the premise, right or wrong, that the upperclassmen like Arnett and Staveskie will regress 2-3ppg moving from Horizon to AAC, while the two freshmen, especially Stevenson, still have room for their games to grow. that could be antiquated thinking in an era of such movement, but I'm happier for the 10ppg soph than the 12ppg senior

  30. our mediocre, no championship-winning coach just got hired UP in the college sports world and most of you don't know what to do because 98% of your fandom is seemingly centered around water cooler talks with your Horn/Aggie/Raider/Bear/Mustang/Frog co-workers, and the feelings of inadequacy you feel toward your rather mid Alma Mater's sports history always well to the surface and cloud perspective and as such you've never learned to just enjoy the successful basketball we've had since 2017... so finally, that era is over. I was initially a bit ambivalent on the Robinson hire, but the more I've dug the more I like the pick and think at worst he is a good continuity hire to continue our upward trajectory as a basketball program as likely would've been the case had Hodge stayed another season, we're going to be looking at a brand new roster for the '25-26 season yet again. just the nature of the beast. wanna complain about it? fine, I guess...but last I checked ESPN+ isn't putting a gun to your head to watch these games. so, what do we have so far? 3 CSU transfers: - Je'Shawn Stevenson - G - 6'2" 200 - Soph - starting guard/6th man potential - Dylan Arnett - F - 6'9" 240 - Sr - likely starter at the 4/5 - Reece Robinson - F - 6'8" 225 -Soph - 15-20 minutes/game reserve Possible Retunees, Known Commodities: - Brennan Lorient - F - 6'9" 215 - Sr - imma set it at 25/75 at best that B-Lo is back...he's done enough to get paid more than UNT can offer - Jasper Floyd - G - 6'3" 195 - Sr - 50/50? I like him and want him back, but I would think WVU fans would be under-whlemed dropping a ship on him next year - Grant Newell - F - 6'9" 220 - Sr - he's maddening, sure...but he fills a role here and given the Chicago connect, I bet he's back Possible Returnees, Unknowns: - Tyran Mason - G - 6'6" 195 - RS-Fr - hope he stays, I guess? - Brock Vice - F - 6'10" 240 - Soph - gotta think he either stays or Hodge had a plan for him and brings him to WVU...I see little middle ground here - Alex Cotton -G - 6'5" 200 - So/Jr(?) - two years here and no PT likely means a transfer down...best of luck in the SoCon - Baron Smith - F - 6'9" 220 - Fr - just on the eyeball test at shoot-around in Phili, we could do worse for a prospect...wouldn't be disappointed if he stayed Incoming Recruits: - DJ Thomas - F - 6'7" 210- Fr - I've seen their game described differently, but I'd be happy if either he or Mason stuck for next year...they're probably filling a similar roll - Cahmai Crosby - 6'3" 180 - Soph - solid JUCO numbers...looks like a role player...happy if he's a contributor next season, but won't lose sleep if he never steps foot on campus Recruitment Needs: - #1 lead scoring guard - we need 15ppg ideally from a winning D1 program walking through the door - starting center - I would love someone who makes either Arnett or Newell our reserve 4/5...both if B-Lo happens to stay - starting PG - I mean, in an ideal world Floyd stays, but is our swing guard and we add a dynamic PG - 6'5"-ish wings - can never have too many

  31. I think Coach Robinson can do it, too. And, credit where credit is due, Mosley deserves recognition for identifying this notion and incorporating it as a criteria in his hiring process. We've maintained a defense-first program for nearly a decade under two coaches. It has truly become a defining characteristic for us, one that people across the nation have begun to associate with our team. That identity could have been swiftly destroyed if Mosley had hired an offensive-minded coach with less emphasis on defense. However, by bringing in Robinson, we have the chance to genuinely build on that foundation and identity as a program, and that's a key way to develop an iconic program. Toughest team wins. Keep building on it, Coach Robinson!

  32. If Texas A&M (which has as much or more $ than any college in the country) can lose their coach, then any school can lose their coach. Losing coaches is part of being a big-time basketball program. Just wait until Grant McCasland gets offered a top tier SEC or Big 10 job. It is going to happen and when it does, he will be riding the next dirt storm out of Lubbock. The coaches and players will come and go, but can the program sustain winning?

  36. But none of that has much to do about monetary hierarchy. Uk, ark, and atm can money whip. The narrative you're creating is trying to group us up with them. They drive Bugattis. We drive a Honda civic.

  40. can i say both? the poor kid's head is probably spinning right now as it came on pretty quick and his post HS plans got flipped around. his mom has made it known, pretty adamantly, that his future is TBD. and the tone of when she most recently said it tells me TBD likely does not include UNT.

  41. Depends on your expectations. He was maddening for all the missed layups and shots from close range, absolutely. But he was a high motor defender with length. I'd definitely bring him back if possible. I bet every single player in our starting 5 with eligibility gets offers from P5 schools.

  42. Dream 13 Starters: PG. Rowan Brumbaugh - transfer Tulane (facilitator with the ability to score the rock) SG. Jaron Pierre - transfer Jax State (pure scoring guard with some size) SF. Tyran Mason/DJ Thomas - Dello role, high-level athlete more interested in defending than scoring PF. Brennan Lorient - biggest recruiting job for the new gaffer C. Dylan Arnett - experienced hard working post Key Bench - Je'Shawn Stevenson - scoring guard - Jasper Floyd - reserve PG, defensive stalwart - Brock Vice - 6'10" with legit perimeter game...man I hope he stays - Grant Newell - rugged, experienced stretch 4/5 Developmental Bench - Reece Robinson - probably has a big role next year - Baron Smith - if all the above happens, all your bigs are seniors so maybe there's a role in 2 years - Cahmai Crosby - his profile makes sense...hard being too excited about him right now - high-upside scoring guard freshman from Denton-area high school
