I see a pretty generic list of top HCs from mid majors, but nothing that confirms who the WVU AD is actually looking at. Just my 0.02, but I don't read anything on here that tells me Hodge is a top candidate for this job. Just who the media is eyeballing. Definitely on people's radar, but he still needs some big post season wins.9 points

How about this one...a family that just got done shelling out hundreds of dollars to watch our team in the AAC Tournament is now being asked to turn around a shell out at least a hundred bucks less than a week later just to get in the door.6 points

Ben McCollum was Head Coach at Northwest Missouri State during Wren's entire tenure there and has Drake in the NCAA tournament and a 30-win season. Seems like a no brainer to me.5 points
-
Problem is, the WVU AD is very much acquainted with Ross Hodge. He would know who he's getting. I agree that Wren would really have to sell his donors/fans on Hodge without much postseason success. That could change in a week though.5 points

pro tip: if you're going to try to be funny and do bits, specificity and accuracy are very important...otherwise you just look dumb, especially if you can't even be bothered to go to ESPN to make sure you're even in the same ballpark of spelling our own player's name, MOULAYE, correctly.5 points

Ugh. We need to spread rumors about Ross to kill this idea. Like how he once confided in me that he hates "Take Me Home, Country Roads."4 points

The alternative is that we never do anything of note and no one ever asks anything of you.4 points

Won't they be too busy helping with the "investigation" of the NCAA?? 😆4 points

LMAO!!!! Love the P4 elites eating their own. NCAA created this mess but the P4's are having a civil war. I think they are correct though, UNC and UT have no reason to be in the tournament. Especially UT who only won 1/3 of their conference games.4 points

Why is it a big mistake? You can live like a king in WV for like 50k a year… Ross would be like Elon Musk making what he would for that gig!3 points

If Ross makes the same mistake Wren did (going to WV) then I will be disappointed in his judgement.3 points

Just my 0.02 here: I don't doubt that they will talk to each other on the phone. Just very skeptical that this will have any serious momentum or that he will be a "top" candidate as this thread title suggests. HC hires are a bit more involved than the buddy-buddy hires you see at the assistant positions. WVU is going to want to impress its bases - fans and donors - and Hodge doesn't have any splashy impressive wins that the other HC options do. Like you're suggesting, Wren would be smart to wait out this NIT and see how far Hodge and Co get. That would give the hire some much needed traction. If we are a one-and-done (hope not), then they'll likely look elsewhere.3 points

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights said it is investigating the University of North Texas and nearly four dozen other schools for engaging in “race-exclusionary practices in their graduate programs.” The department said Friday it believes the 45 universities are violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by being involved with a relatively small project that aims to promote racial diversity at business schools. The investigation is part of the Trump administration’s efforts to rid institutions of “diversity, equity and inclusion” programs. Not sure we could pry McCollum away from Drake (if Hodge left, since I'm assuming why McCollum was brought up)). He'd have way bigger suitors than us. Indiana has shown interest in addition to WVU. Hell, I'm not sure he'll even leave Drake yet. He's apparently from the area.2 points

I don't think Ross is ready. And I think it would be a poor hire in the league WVU plays in. But, time will tell. It always does.2 points

It's certainly possible. There has been talk about Jasper having 1 more year of eligibility due to the new JUCO eligibility rules, and obviously Brenen's & Grant's eligibility are not up... Having those 3 back would be huge. But, even if not, and we lose all of those guys, Coach Hodge has now proven he can dip into the portal and grab guys who can mesh and win immediately. He set that standard himself. He'll need to live up to that expectation moving forward.2 points

Sure the money is great, but look at all the stuff Wren has had to put up with there. There will be openings at better places without all the drama.2 points

I would be disappointed, but in no way would I blame him for taking the position if they offered him. It would be an upgrade in almost every way.2 points

For all the complaining about our offense by basically...90% of the people on the board, our offensive efficiency is actually in the top 25% of all of college basketball (77 of 364). https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/stat/offensive-efficiency2 points

Pac-12 expansion options: Texas State, not UNLV, should be the top target because membership is about the future, not the present The conference could pursue a second Texas school to pair with the Bobcats and reduce travel demands. UTSA and North Texas come immediately to mind, particularly given the AAC’s media rights deal allocates smaller shares to its newer members than to the likes of Memphis and Tulane. https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2025/mar/08/pac-12-expansion-options-texas-state-not-unlv-shou/2 points

Are we not going to lose 6 of our top 8 again this year? I am not disappointed with the result this year overall I suppose. I am, however, disappointed in the team’s massive scoring droughts at times. I would put that on the head coach. And it kept the team from getting to the next level. And that level is the same as last year, despite the higher win total. I am just saying that runner up in the regular season and a semifinal exit isn’t going to get it done medium to long term. Unless your expectations are low, I think the program overall has reached a point where fans should expect Tourney appearances every 3-4 years or so, and then regularly.2 points

I think Wren could point to Grant at Texas Tech and sell the donors on Hodge following a similar trajectory.2 points
-
I wondered the same thing after his 27 or so point game, but just because he isn't scoring 27 doesn't mean he isn't contributing. It is his senior year and he has been great for us!!! Can't wait to see him tonight and hope it isn't for the last time! Let's show him some well earned respect. GMG2 points

It would be bad for us, but good for him! I think he did a great job for what he was given. I think he likes it here, but money talks. WVU has a fan base that really shows up when they are winning and he knows Wren Baker as an AD. I think it is too early to make that jump, but what do I know.2 points

NIT games begin tonight, Tuesday, March 18. We would play the winner of Ark St vs Saint Louis, 8pm ESPN-U. Also, Wichita St @ Okla St, 8pm, ESPN-2. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/scoreboard/_/seasontype/3/group/982 points

I forgot about OU, hate the media and selection committee have such hard ons for the SEC. Pathetic.2 points

It’s funny-ish. But weaponizing state institutions over basketball is stupid and a massive waste of resources and taxpayer dollars.2 points

You can add Oklahoma to your list. The Sooners (20-13 6-12) had the same SEC record and just 1 more win overall compared to the Horns (19-15 6-12).2 points

Yes, their board goes off course about half way thru the tread, debating if their alternate uniforms with "Dins" on the front is acceptable. Several don't like the 'Dins nickname and debate about using it ensues.2 points

From our senior class, I believe the only ones that may be eligible for another season are Floyd, Jossell and Massie. Walker, Wright, and Sissoko just completed their fifth year playing and, as noted above, Stone is set to become a grad assistant. Now, I don't know if Floyd, Jossell and Massie will take an extra year, or even if they qualify for one, but it would by nice to have them back. Lorient, Newell and Allo (walk-on) are listed as juniors. Cotton is listed as a sophomore. Vice and Howell are R-Fr. Mason and Smith Jr. are true freshmen.2 points

Ross is not ever going to play any high school players as the level we recruit to is not game ready for a league as tough as the AAC. I personally see no reason to recruit high school players with this NIL and portal crap and that goes for football as well.2 points
