  1. Orange seats would go a long way toward brightening up the place.

  2. stoked to be in the barn for this one. looking back, I think my last game in person was the 12/6/17 OT win v. Indiana State...I remember AJ Lawson hitting a clutch shot to send it to OT and closing them out in the extra 5. prior to that it was a Benford game (so a loss) at Rutgers in 2016.

  4. A topic almost as popular as uniform and helmet talk in the off-season, but it seems like we will be with the Super Pit for the foreseeable future. Given the time it's taken to get the Athletic Center expansion off the ground, I can't image raising the money necessary to build a new basketball arena any time soon. To be honest, with a decent crowd, it presents pretty well on TV for its age. There are certainly worse venues out there. Let's say it's our home for at least 10 more years (probably more in reality), what can/should be done to dress up the place? Not really considering cost, feasibility or priority, but here's some initial thoughts. This is mainly from the perspective of a TV viewer. 1. Lighting. I think we made some lighting improvements a few years ago, but even with the improved production quality of ESPN, there are camera angles where the court and players don't show up well. 2. Removable curtains or something to block off all or portions of the upper deck seating. Artificially reduce capacity to force seating to be in the lower bowl. Can be removed if necessary for larger crowds. More crowd noise? Doesn't look empty on TV but could also look bad if the curtains are cheap or it looks like we're hiding something. 3. Dead space behind the baskets. It looks like we are adding some baseline seating on court, but is there any way to add more back there (student or standing room only)? Players need to get through the tunnels, so may not be possible. Maybe just paint the ugly cement floor if nothing else can be done or add some hardwood to extend the floor all the way to the edge of the stands. 4. Raise the floor? Is that even possible? Maybe not all the way, but bring it up closer to the first row of seating? On many courts, the first row (not court-level) is almost directly behind the scorer's table and team benches.

  5. you wanna see a locker room go to shit real quick, bring in 13 D1 senior transfers all with the promise of playing time. we have a good model going...a balance of mostly upper-classmen transfers and a small handful of upside freshmen.

  12. 1. Actually develop a marketing plan to get butts in seats. Then, act out that plan with tenacity. 2. Baseline seating. 3. Average 5k+

  13. There are never many people in the upper; shutting it won’t make much difference. And the upper never shows on tv. I like the cheaper seats, extra space and higher perspective. They should make a pedestrian bridge from the lot up to the entrance level.

  14. Yep. The McCasland at Tech success certainly won't help. We have a wonderful system in place. Hodge learned from Mac. Hopefully, someone is learning from Hodge and can take over some day. If we pull in somebody new from the outside, he will want to implement his own system with his own set of beliefs on how to build a program. Why upset the apple cart ? It's very risky and can ruin the momentum that has been building here over the last 7 of 8 years. Coaching trees are incredibly successful in the NFL. That may be the perfect way to run a consistently successful mid-major program.

  18. I dislike having ten member teams, seems like nothing but an easy way, not to make a decision on identifying the very best. I am sure it is a common fan feeling, but it seems that NT always seems to be under-represented on these selections.

  19. Does the athletic department collect and/or report student attendance at the games? I'm wondering if there was a dropoff there, and if so, how much? I think one reason for a drop in attendance is that we lost so many players off of last years team, including some long time players like Rubin Jones and Aaron Scott. One of the nice things about college sports is watching players grow and progress from one season to the next, and the transfer portal is really putting a crimp in that.

  20. It does suck that the lone home loss in a remarkable 15-1 campaign was to 1 of like 3 teams in the league you simply couldn’t afford to drop one to. A more “reasonable” home loss to middle of AAC team or above and we’re still squarely in the bubble conversation. Memphis, UNT and UAB are all NCAA Tournament caliber teams.

  21. 80 bucks for 7 games, 160 for parking in the blue lot for 7 games = 240 bucks for 7 glorious days of tailgating and football....not a bad deal at all

  24. At this point this year is a wash for attendance. I don't care how bad the schedule fell, an attendance drop of 700 per game for a conference championship contender is unacceptable. I had been led to believe a huge push was going to be made to make Wichita State this year's SMU game.

  25. Based on the crowd noise on the Deuce, I would have thought we had more in the Super Pit, but with 3,924 in attendance, we missed what would have been our fourth greater than 4K game in a row. Honestly, out of the three games of Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State, I would have picked Wichita State as the bigger draw, but what do I know? We continue to creep up on the season average which now stands at 3,422. Unfortunately that's still down an average of 710 or 17.18% per game. One more home game this season versus Charlotte. Would be nice to crack the 4K number one more time. The game got sloppy at times, but I guess we can do ugly better than others can do ugly and we were able to squeeze out the win. Let's finish strong and roll through the conference tournament.

  26. Liven up the concourse and exterior. Make it obvious on gamedays there's an event going on. FAU has a student tailgate before several games. Look at the vendors the AAC has on Victory Plaza before Mavs games and make some calls. Our merch booth is a joke. I'd like to see a walk-through spirit store like the Hangar at the AAC. Maybe with NIL in-house now, you can make The Pit's spirit store be more NIL-heavy offering jerseys/shirts supporting players from all sports. I'm not an engineer, but could we take out a couple of upper level sections to create a concourse bar area that also has a view of the game? We also need updated stat boards.

  34. Couldn't agree more. Savage had lost her stuff and De Long was too slow to make the change in the circle. The girls were up 7-2 and had earned the win. De Long gave it to Charlotte. We should be 2-0 in conference play. Our team isn't ranked and doesn't have the OOC resume to earn an at large bid to a regional. This is a good team, but they can't afford to have our coach lose games for them. Savage may have given up the runs, but De Long allowed her to do it.

  35. Tell me you know nothing about Auburn's roster without telling me you know nothing about their roster. Their main rotation is mostly transfers. Broome (tranfer Morehead State), Jones (transfer FIU), Baker-Maharaj (transfer SDSU), Kelly (transfer Georgia Tech), are 4 of their 5 leading scorers. Caldwell is their only starter who Auburn recruited out of HS and Pettiford, true freshman off the bench, is their 4th leading scorer. Their success is built off the transfer portal.

  36. I would recruit a team of all college transfer Juniors, similar to what we, and others, are doing now... (EDIT*** Just realized this article is from Jan. 2024, lol, but still applies to this season too...) COLLEGE BASKETBALL Has the era of freshmen dominating college basketball passed? "KenPom tracks every Division 1 program by average age, and a look at the ten oldest teams in college basketball helps prove this point. Nine of the ten oldest teams are in the Top 75 at KenPom, six of them are in the Top 40, and objectively eight of the ten have outperformed preseason expectations." https://collegesportswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/college-basketball/2024/01/12/college-basketball-old-teams-north-carolina-texas-washington/78286602007/

  39. Win Game 1.......5-4. Lose Game 2.........8-7. The Game 2 loss is strictly on Coach Delong. Skyler was gifted a 7-2 lead. And in the fifth inning....Rodney leaves her in so long.....that she lets the game get tied. Finally he brings in Kayleigh Smith and she pitches well the rest of the way. I think she gave up the 8th run...but am pretty sure that gal was the responsibility of Skyler. Any adversity seems to just mess Skyler up. In that 5th....we had one out....and then Cierra Simon made a great play for out 2. But they reviewed it....and showed that the runner was safe. That seemed to mess her up enough....to where she just started throwing BP. Bad, bad loss.

  41. Because they effectively raised their brand by dropping the 2nd L, just like TSUSM did this by dropping SM. It's an illusion of quality and power for the current members, some of who are "flagship" universities, or have aspirations to be playing with the likes.
