Brenen Lorient is a perfect example of what FAU had sitting on their bench, only getting "garbage time". Then he decided to leave for more playing time elsewhere... Without him playing full time for us now, this season is lost. Sometimes you don't realize what you have, until you lose it!2 points

We have seen them play in garbage time. Not in minutes where a slight edge in points means W vs L.2 points

Maybe good for some to do some research before firing off hot takes: https://247sports.com/college/west-virginia/board/105475/contents/college-basketball-attendance-report-2024-25-239681802/ Interesting to look at all those power conference school's attendance averages early in the year before they get the in-conference Blue Bloods on the home calendar to bring their averages up. If you dropped UNT into any of the power 5 leagues, we would pull the same numbers. As it is, check the 'Others' for the Top 10 outside the power 5. All familiar bball mid-major powers that have either deep history of winning titles or recent runs of huge success. UNT attendance falls about where you'd expect it to based on our history, conference affiliation and recent success, IMPO. Having said that, we have dropped off since Wren and Mac's early years. The AD needs to do a better job marketing this team. We're getting better TV coverage the last 2 years due to the AAC deal with ESPN and our success meaning we're landing our "better" games on national broadcast channels. That probably has something to do with the drop. However, I'd expect the students to turn out to be on camera, and they are definitely not. Student turnout is on the AD. No question they are not doing enough at the present time. Also a hot sports take is that our Greeks are the most disconnected from the school out of any of the schools we'd like to be compared with. I think a lot of that has to do with the UNT administration. Generally a roller coaster ride over the past 20-30 years of whether we're Greek friendly or not. It's the group you HAVE to go after for help supporting sports. But then we will make an effort to pull them in and they get hassled and made to jump through hoops (pun intended). This is the low-hanging fruit at UNT, but will require the AD to work with several departments to make UNT more Greek friendly. I say this as someone who was not involved in Greek life and generally the tech-bro/frat-bro/sorority dingus turns me off...but you HAVE to court these people for sports attendance. Period.2 points

I'm looking at path to a conference championship. I'd much rather face Tulsa knowing we likely get UAB after that and Memphis in the final game. At the same time, if Temple ends up facing Memphis on the other side of the bracket, I feel they're one of the few teams who can knock them off. Obviously they beat Memphis at home but they also played them tough at Memphis in what was a tie game at the half and a 6 point game with a minute to go in a game Mashburn Jr missed due to injury. I'd rather let Memphis deal with them.1 point

If I'm a fan that doesn't want to be bothered then, ya, you tell yourself "but they aren't getting it done on the road. plain and simple." If I'm a coach, I'm telling my team that those losses were all very close, sometimes only extended closer to 10 (final score) because the other team took advantage of free throws. My 0.02, they've given nearly every team in the conference problems, and they made it all the way to the finals last year, under a first year coach. Wilder things have happened. Looks like they were 3-6 on the road last year in conference play, heading into tournament.1 point

First two homers since the first day of the season. First not hit by Bearclaw. Good to see for Sparks and Conley.1 point

Just one game today.....SIU at 9 am. Two games on Sunday....Bradley and Ga. Tech (9 and 11:30) Go Mean Green! BTW....the way the weather is looking....I kind of doubt the home opener against TTech.....happens on Tuesday night.1 point

I agree with both of these. When tournament time comes, I feel like we will see the Temple we saw flashes of in league play.1 point
-
I feel weird saying this because Temple has lost 3 in a row, but I feel like they are the strongest dark horse to make a deep run in the tournament.1 point
-
I may be alone here but Temple is just not a team I want to play in our first tourney game. They've got the country's second leading scorer in Mashburn and as we saw in Denton, have several guys who can score in a hurry. I'd like to avoid them early in the tournament if possible. That's upset potential right there.1 point

I am encouraged by the five runs... looking at last year's schedule. We played 10 games against Power 5 conference teams. We went 1-9 and got outscored 82-18, getting shutout four times.1 point

Yes a full arena is great, but you're turning away fans from the games that drew over 5500. Tarp off the upper deck of the Pit if it bothers people to see it. Plus that $100mil (that we don't have anyway) for an additional arena, could be used for many better things for athletics and fans.1 point

I am visiting my son in Ft. Lauderdale the last of the month and we are going to the UNT/FAU game the 27th. From pictures I have seen it looks like a gym but I will let you know. Its called "The Burrow " because their mascot is a "Burrowing Owl " as opposed to a generic barn owl, but who gives a hoot?1 point

My take on it is that you might be playing with fire trying to "experiment" like that during a game by putting in unknown factors. Since we already know this team isn't an explosive offense, what about the defense of these unknowns? In a tight game, that could mean the difference. And to the point of regular season and winning isn't as big of a deal because we won't get an at-large anyways, have you seen the standings lately? 1 or 2 games drops us in the standing enough to have to play an extra game during the tournament. If we had like a 5 game lead in standings, I wouldn't care.1 point

You obviously haven't seen many arenas. You'd rather us have the UTSA, Rice, or FAU high school gyms?1 point

Memphis with the easy dub to Tampa, improving to 11-1. I am fine with the 2 seed. Give me a Friday 6pm start over 12pm game!1 point

This won't ever end. We have a small army of people who love the trolls as fun banter (in their eyes), and don't care how much it bogs up the board and annoys the rest of us.1 point

Our wise AD and CRO ran off a huge chunk of fans with their prolific price hikes. Then the CRO ran off to TCU. The AD has done nothing to pick up the pieces (or the phone for that matter).1 point

I'm seriously pissed beyond a funny GIF here. Second to last in the conference in ticket sales. Last in 'Total Support'. Last in Contributions. Laughably last in Collective Funding. Still nowhere near moving dirt on the new AC. Declining basketball attendance despite a 13-4 record. Someone fire this man.1 point

Not quite the same thing IMO. You are talking about a team that went to a Final Four. Of course their bench isn't going to get much time. In other words, their bench is as good as our starters now.0 points

Please people, stop. The thread was about a run our '88 team made to get to the Big Dance, not a run they made in the Dance, so the trolling is based on a false premise. Cougar High probably has a better basketball history than UNT, so what? When a Houston message board creates a thread looking back at some moment in their basketball history, I highly doubt Duke and Kentucky fans jump in to point out how superior their basketball history is.0 points

I hope you are confusing talented with ready or polished or something teachable because if they are not talented enough, the coaches failed miserably in recruiting. All players should be talented enough and recruited to fit the system. They might need to up the effort on defense or something else but talent shouldn’t be in question0 points

Hey, basketball team..... JUST WIN! But it would be nice to see some of the bench guys play. Let's see what we've got.0 points

Not their facilities. I’ve been to plenty. Being a slightly better arena than those listed doesn’t make the Pit any less of a dumpster. You also can’t deny that FAU has created a much better environment than UNT has. I’d take that over the 60 year old people of the Pit sitting on their hands and complaining that people stand too much or yell too much or cuss too much. If the Pit actually had a decent CBB history and a much better environment you could look past the ugliness of the venue itself.-1 points

@untjim1995 -- I'm a big UNT fan and even I gotta say, how about you just sit the next few plays out? It's not a good look...-1 points

We have guys on the bench that can play. We've seen them play, so they already burned any redshirt this season. Mason needs to be on the floor. Vice can have some of Newell's minutes too. Otherwise, I expect them all to portal out for better opportunity.-1 points
