God willing, we will be traveling there often. Five hours to Wichita is infinitely more pleasurable of a drive than four hours to Austin/TXSt or five to SAT. We anticipate our first grandson's birth in Wichita in May. He shall be called Denton. Wichita is a great town and the town supports Wichita State. GMG15 points

Actually, I didn't ask that question. Others did. I simply offered one potential reason (the optics one) why, if Texas State is bound to happen, it hasn't already. Sometimes these things move with lightening speed and other times at a snail's pace. I'm sure the new PAC wants to make sure it considers all options and, as you say, currently has (some) time on its side, but the clock is ticking. Hopefully, our leadership is engaged and working either to put an attractive package of schools together for the new PAC to consider or making the case unilaterally for North Texas as a member. If nothing else, the exercise forces you to take a closer look at your strengths and weaknesses.7 points

Wichita State fan forum...some comments about our upcoming game tomorrow evening.... https://shockernet.net/forum/wichita-state-athletics/wichita-state-men-s-basketball/1470855-north-texas-15-4-at-wichita-state-11-9-game-discussion-jan-29-wed#post1470981 I'll be interested as to what the spread is. Honestly, I kind of hope they win. I've never had any issues with North Texas and they're definitely a team that can get into the tournament and I'd honestly like to see that. **** Memphis, but I respect North Texas. North Texas is probably my second favorite AAC team. They defend well and play hard - much like WSU of old. They have an outside shot at getting an at-large if they can manage to essentially win out (the AAC really sucks this year). Ross Hodge is also a better coach and recruiter than Paul Mills - all while making a few hundred thousand dollars less per season. Knowing a little about North Texas I feel like we have a much better shot at upsetting a team like Memphis who plays out of control with no discipline. A well coached team with talent should own us at this point. Originally posted by JVShocker View Post Over under on actual attendance? Anyone? I would think maybe a little better since this is a good team. Maybe 5k.7 points

I hope we destroy them but I hope they get their program turned around. This would be a fun restored rivalry. And the closest drive to any relevant basketball program in the league.6 points

fine. we'll include ICE for First Responders night. see how many people show up for those nerds.6 points

RV got lazy after 10 yrs, Wren was good then got big eyes to move up and got lazy, Mosely has started out apathetic and has shown nothing that will actually grow the Program with fans, considering the $$$ being shelled out in the AD area, the ROI is pathetic5 points

I think Mosley is a great "player's coach" or "coach's AD" in that he supports his coaches really well and they enjoy working for him. He isn't the "rah-rah" type to stir up the alumni, students or local community, which is okay except that is what we need right now. It's nothing personal against him, but if he isn't wired that way then he isn't what we need leading the department at this time.4 points

RV was very good at the gladhanding portion of the job, and advanced facilities in a way very few other people may have been able to do. Main problem was, outside of Johnny Jones, the man was incapable of picking a good football or basketball coach.4 points

3rd time in a row we go to their place, it will be nice to finally get them at home at the end of the season.4 points

Great idea. I am thrilled they are removing people that have criminal records, in or lead gangs and who entered our country illegally. I bet it isn’t an easy job and they deserve recognition as well.4 points

It’s the type of student. Education and liberal arts. I don’t think it’s a mystery. now, changing that? No easy answer.4 points

This times 1000! Why in god's name are some on here going after poor Jarrod? He has always been very gracious to me and my girlfriend. He seems to really sincerely care about UNT.4 points

President Pohl was the one that presented the idea of the former NT Eagle Point golf course being used for Athletics (stadium, etc.). The lease was recently not renewed by the group running the course and Dr. Pohl saw an opportunity to get more land for the core campus (Fouts) and help Athletics with some acreage for new facilities....just before RV was set to renovate a warehouse as a new Athletic Center and another makeover for Fouts.3 points

Just doing things "part time" Hayden accomplished a lot. He created the Mean Green Club so that donating to the athletic department could start happening. Something that never happened in the history of our school, He got us noticed by local media. He got our merchandise out there better than anyone before. I remember purchasing a Mean Green shirt at the J.C, Pennys at NE mall. Before that, you almost never saw any North Texas Merchandise outside the campus stores. I personally participated in one outreach event where a trailer bed was pulled up to the Sanger town square and set up. A pep band set up and played, Cheerleaders went around and asked Merchants to let them leave season ticket information/applications. They then put on an impromptu pep rally. Their message to the community was "we want to be your college athletic program". They did the same in some other small communities. His promotions guy, Bill Vogel owned a custom Mean Green van. Every time he went out in the community, even for a simple shopping trip, he went in his rolling advertisement for the program.3 points

Hayden Fry was the AD only because that was the only way we could pay his worth He hated the AD job and was going HC only his last year. The two jobs do not lend themselves to a combination. They should both be mutually exclusive. We have passed on some good ADs among them Steve Sloan, Bill Blakeley applied, RV accomplished some things never before dreamed of at North Texas, and Corky Nelson managed to keep football from being dropped.3 points

I think this could be a closer game then people think, WS is desperate for a win in conference play.3 points

We’re “Next 4 out.” Shows how we’re on the outside right now, but we are definitely trending in the right direction3 points

I expect to get a lot of down votes for this, but am I the only one who cannot stand seeing these male Mean Green dancers? For God sakes go be a cheer leader or something else, but leave the Mean Green dancers to the females. Do guys have to invade everything that female do? I cannot watch the Mean Green dancers when one of those guys is out there. I want to cheer for them because they rep the school that I love, but I just can't with those guys out there.3 points

If things continue to go well for both men's and women's basketball, I feel like both head coaches have about a year's worth of tread left before they get scooped up.2 points

I'm all for getting as many mid-major programs in the tournament as possible, but I'm not for punishing a quality program for playing a brutal schedule...there's reason why metrics like NET and tiering wins with the Quad system are in place to try to determine quality deeper than just overall/conference record. those top 10 SEC schools are almost certainly in, save for some end of year collapse, and deservedly so...all ten are currently at .500 in the league, and if they finish that way they'd be right around 20 wins for the year...so even hitting your benchmarks. I'd say at least 3 of those schools have a legit chance at a national title. the SEC bubble teams: - Texas - 14-6, 3-4 SEC, NET 32, 3-5 Quad 1, 2 ranked wins, 5 upcoming ranked games - Georgia - 15-6, 3-5 SEC, NET 35, 2-6 Quad 1, 3 ranked wins, 7 upcoming ranked games - Oklahoma - 15-5, 2-5 SEC, NET 46, 4-4 Quad 1, 2 ranked wins, 9 upcoming ranked games UNT - 15-4, 6-1 AAC, NET 45, 0-3 Quad 1, 0 ranked wins, maybe 1 upcoming ranked game maybe if the bottom falls out at OU they'll get bounced out, but otherwise they're all deserving2 points

It’s been 40 years and we cant get 30,000 people to a football game on Saturday…or 5-10 thousand for a basketball game? I think the latest push of the maniacs is a good initiative that will pay off down the line.2 points

Very much confusing. There has to be a consulting group (?) that would investigate why our students, alums, and locals are not as passionate towards the school and it's athletic teams as we feel they should be. What is missing; what can be done to push them into becoming passionate fans?2 points
-
I suppose you’re correct that’s what it should be about, but TV and venues want eyeballs. Those brands bring them consistently. I understand if someone looks at Rice or Tulane and says that they don’t have many alumni or students, so I’d rather have Iowa or Georgia. What has to be confusing to those people is to see some place with a huge enrollment and a giant alumni base and see that about 2% of that group cares about their teams.2 points

They’re not that dominant anymore. Since Jan 4, they’re only 54-54. Pedestrian conference.2 points

Not that it needs to be posted here but those are the types of photos that can be included in a chapter yearbook type memorabilia or to include in future recruitment flyers. Show future freshmen who are bound to on-campus dorms that you guys do stuff together on campus, @rojomojo.2 points

I am 100 percent with you. Interestingly, Greek life is much more incentivized to go to basketball games rather than the football games. I can assure you that at least 20 Theta Chi's will be at the next game2 points

damn...I hate agreeing with you. we have, what, like 15-20 home games per season? no reason not to have 10-12 themed "_____ Nights" to bring in different student and Denton community groups. here, just from my couch over my morning coffee...feel free AD Students: - Greek Night - Rec Sports Night - honor the intramural basketball champ teams at half-time - International Student Night (assuming there are still international students next year...) - Dorm Night...maybe not a night for each hall, but make it a comp between the dorms and RAs to see who can bring the biggest crowd Community: - Denton High/Denton Ryan/isn't there a 3rd HS now Nights - Denton ISD Night where we bring in all the little kids - First Responders - Police/Fire/Medical professionals - Retro Night, but make it legit...break out those sexy old Blakeley unis, 70s tunes for al TOs, costume contest...maybe 70s era pricing at the concession stands - Green Out / White Out / Black Out just to piss off Adler engage with the leaders of each of these groups months out from their games...promote everything a week or two ahead of time. for the community...maybe free tickets for their themed nights and 50% off the rest of the season...something just to get bodies and hopefully maintain at least some engagement moving forward2 points

UNT, memphis, tulane and utsa to the PAC and pay us all $10,000,000 a year on media rights for 12 years and I say let’s go. Other than something like that we probably ought to stay and hope that memphis and tulane stay as well and they just might.2 points
