The schools should sue the players that opted out. The bigger and faster we can make a mess out of this, the better. And now, with this, the next school should just show up and essentially not play, i.e. walk out on the field and fumble on the first play of each possession and then let the other team score. Make ESPN have to show that for 2 hours.6 points

really poor second half energy...been watching the definition of playing not to lose. credit to UTSA for upping the tempo and getting us out of sorts, but this is just as much our lack of execution and energy thus far. we've a lot of close game experience, so hopefully we figure it out to end this game4 points

Man, wright and lorient are the 2 biggest factors in how far this team goes, imo. When wright is on, we are a top 25 team.4 points

I agree with this. Hodge loves the DFW metroplex and would love to stay here I think. Let's make him our Bill Self. If those seats were just a little wider......VERY annoying for someone that is 6'4". I know why most people don't stand up to cheer, they are stuck in their seats.4 points

I think today's teams (UNT) will have a difficult time legitimately being labeled "Best Ever" due to annual turnover. Teams in the past were together 2-4 years with very rare transfers. 2 year guys were always Juco transfers as teams were mostly built through HS recruiting. In general, the benches were deeper because guys couldn't transfer (without sitting out). Fans got a chance to embrace the players/team more resulting in larger crowds.3 points

UTA has a lot of similarities to our situation. They are a large, public University, same enrollment as us, non-power athletic conference, affected by DFW attractions (like us) for basketball attendance. I started at UTA, and I hated it, mainly because of their lack of athletic facilities, campus culture, and non emphasis on athletics. I don't want us to become the same! Why, besides age and size, do you think the Pit sucks? It has great sight lines, fans can be close to the action, even court-side. Big, nice open concourses for food. I have never seen one opponent fan criticize it other than not being full. That, as others have mentioned, is fixable with the right AD and some better marketing people/ideas.3 points

Unacceptable number of turnovers in the 2nd half. Zero energy and coasting off first half performance.2 points

Love these announcers. Talking about our transfers, “you don’t want to bring in a sophomore that didn’t play at their last stop” cough *Lorient* cough at least they did their homework.2 points

Let’s be honest Title 9 is the dumbest ruling ever and always has been. I am all for women’s sports, I am all for schools offering scholarships for those sports if they choose to. Requiring every school to have an equal number of scholarships when football takes 85 is so beyond crazy, and this is crazier. Something meant to benefit female athletes has clearly been detrimental for men’s sports. We are not the only school who doesn’t have men’s soccer or baseball because of it, although someone has posted here before that’s not what’s stopping a baseball program from starting. We have 100x a chance of placing a player in the pros (or USMNT) in soccer and baseball yet we don’t have those programs. Truly makes no sense.2 points

😂 All those schools you mentioned have significantly more football accomplishments than UNT and frequent (sometimes deep) entries into NCAA tournament. It is just a bad comparison. You can expect to microwave fan support on a level with those schools from one NIT title which at best (perception wise) makes you no better than 30-20th basketball team that year with your stars and coach leaving the team before the next season. I make 4 out of 6 Saturday Football games a season. I like being outside in good weather. I don’t live in Denton and the last thing I want to do after work is drive for an hour in rush hour traffic to get to a volleyball or basketball game. I suspect the average alumni that doesn’t live in Denton or border city feels the same way. I made a home game the year they won the NIT and preceding season. The SuperPit needs work, concessions food wasn’t good with long lines to get it. I guarantee the fan experiences at the home basketball arenas of the teams you mentioned aren’t like that.2 points

I think we’re a good team that’s trending up. An at large bid is unlikely…we’d have to win all/most of our games, strong showing in the Conference Tourney, and have no surprise teams taking any auto bids. NIT is still a GREAT tournament. It doesn’t get the media hype, but it’s good basketball.2 points

It is about to the point to where you either need to find a way to fix it which will probably take some type of government intervention or just get rid of the sport. It's getting pathetic that every player is out trying to find a way to circumventive system and every team is doing what they want to contact players. I cannot think of another example where a system is as broken as college sports. Add in the fact that title 9 is now saying they will have to share the revenue with women's sports and this is only going to get worse.2 points

Would love to see them turn around and sue the NCAA for creating a system that is unsustainable and non-competitive.2 points

It doesn't really matter how much the AAC gets. It matters how much UNT gets. We're only getting fractional shares of the AAC media money which puts us at a competitive disadvantage compared to the legacy AAC members. If the PAC pays more and they have the potential for 4-5x the NCAA tournament credits and the Rose Bowl affiliation and it's just a better overall set of programs, we should be pursuing membership.2 points

Why put players under contract when in the current form, you can just dispose of those who aren't performing every season? Scholarships are currently renewed on a yearly basis. Putting players under contract would mean you'd be looking at deals worth 2+ years. What happens when a guy just isn't working out but you're on the hook for another year so the scholarship can't be used for somebody else? I know you could say with "NIL," you could just give enough to cover tuition and some extra but I doubt the boosters would want to pay that much for an unknown player just because a scholarship is used up on another bad player. Reality is, coaches hate when players leave after a great season but those same coaches are quick to push guys into the portal if they're not working out. I'd be all for contracts at our level, though. Contracts mean you can include buyouts so if you really hit on a prospect, I'd love for UNT and our NIL to get some money back for developing a good player.2 points

I like how sports reference provides the SRS (simple rating system) score and SOS for each of our teams going back to 49-50. Right now the current team has the second highest SRS, behind our NIT championship team. Pretty crazy that the 6 teams of this decade comprise the entire top 6 in our school history. The Blakeley and Spika teams are the next highest, even above the Johnny Jones years. Spika years definitely had impressive results in a good conference. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/north-texas/men/2 points

I get it, if NT wins; it is because the competition is bad. If NT loses, it is because NT is a bad team. Do you not find a little wrong with that analysis? Elaboration on that a bit: Teams NT has lost to: McNeese St. 61-68 away, MS is 12-5 and undefeated at home, lost to #2 Alabama away 73-80. Utah St. 57-61 neutral, USU is 16-2 including a win over #20 San Diego St. High Point 71-76 away, High Point is 10-1 at home, and like NT no one wants to play them; so their home schedule is not the toughest. Memphis 64-68 away, One of NT's best games that has just about been ignored by the general press; Memphis is supposed to walk over the conference not get a last minute home win over a league opponent.2 points

We have people on gmg.com that don't think we're a good (MBB) program until you're T25. CFB brands and rankings shape their view of MBB brands and rankings. I don't think these wins you listed look meaningful to the casual fan. Which is unfortunate.2 points

Corky Nelson was in 1AA about ‘83. Hayden’s were in ‘76 ( biggest guarantee NT ever got. Darrell Royal said if we were good enough to play we were good enough to split the gate. Also nice that President of UT was Loraine Rogers an NT alum). Earl Campbell beat us in ‘76 not UT (Miss. State clipped our best defensive player out of bounds and put him out for UT game). Jordan Case was QB for second Fry game against UT( about ‘79). We ran a reverse with a pass at the end of the play. The UT DB was soo confused that he tripped over his own feet trying to get back and a floater of a pass got caught at the one. Both UT games with Fry were thrillers. People who think we should have stayed in Missouri Valley did not know that the expansion committee in that league met secretly and added Indiana State and Illinois State when Fry wanted to add Southern Miss. We had the votes to get into SWC but TCU & SMU LOBBIED to keep us out. I was in NT President’s box for Corky’s game. UT Presidents box was right next to us. The UT President was profusely sweating when we were nine points up going into fourth quarter. Only time I ever saw UT students allowed around the end zone and on the field. The refs could not tell where the end line of the end zone was and called a TD even though they could not tell if receiver was in or out. Maybe the best job of scouting and coaching I have ever seen and we had 1AA limits on number of players which really hurt us in fourth quarter when defense was really tired.2 points

I wouldn't be opposed to just modernizing it. Add newer and better video and stats boards, new seats, just a facelift.2 points
