So Caitlin Clark should have had to share her State Farm $$$ with some men’s Iowa basketball player?6 points

I've seen some of these recent games where they were obviously faking injuries to slow things way down, like the Illinois-South Carolina bowl game. Some kind of action is necessary, or it's only going to get worse. Either make a rule like this, or give refs discretion to call something like a "flopping" penalty.5 points

That team that beat Purdue in the first round of the NCAA Tournament might get some consideration here.5 points

I Strongly Disagree. We beat Minnesota on the road (who just knocked off #20 Michigan). We beat good ORSt, AppSt. & UNI teams. We beat the current 1st place AAC team (UAB).4 points

NORTHTEXASWELOVE, with all respect, I couldn’t disagree more. The solution is for more fans to come to the game, not to reduce the size of the arena. By that logic, we could build a 2,500 seat “auditorium” and sell out every night. Fill what we’ve got. Don’t look for a reason to stay at home. Find a reason to come to the Coliseum and support the team you want to support anyway. J4 points

I agree with this. Hodge loves the DFW metroplex and would love to stay here I think. Let's make him our Bill Self. If those seats were just a little wider......VERY annoying for someone that is 6'4". I know why most people don't stand up to cheer, they are stuck in their seats.3 points

You're correct. We are OFFICIALLY the Eagles (Mascot) and OFFICIALLY the Mean Green (Moniker). There is a decided emphasis on Mean Green - for obvious reasons, but both are still present in our branding. https://meangreensports.com/sports/2018/7/6/trads-MeanGreen-html3 points

Oregon State giving Gonzaga a game. If they pull it off that would boost us.3 points

I doubt we are much in the discussions. Mostly because we haven't been a standout in FB, and the massive buyout for the AAC is a huge hurdle. Our best scenario is the PAC wanting an eastern block of Tulane, Memphis, UNT, and either TxSt. or UTSA. If that happens and the money is right we should do everything we can to be one of those teams. The other favorable scenario is the new PAC can't get Memphis/Tulane to jump and decides to stay a western based league. We will have 7 years to build the AAC up because we need to show ESPN we are worth a raise when the contracts are up in 2032.3 points

Good. Memphis almost lost their last game, at home to ECU. The game was tied with a minute to play and they only won by 4, same as when playing us. Memphis was due a loss. They and their fans think they are too good for the AAC.3 points

Memphis loses to Temple. Crazy, The top is getting packed and Temple looked good.3 points

Minnesota also beat Michigan on a near half court buzzer beater. Looks like two top 20 teams will go down within minutes.3 points

When Grant was here, they were grooming Hodge to be the eventual HC. Now that Hodge is having success, I hope they are grooming the next possible HC that can keep the defensive system and culture moving forward. We have had an actual identity for the last 6 years that is pretty unique and a perfect fit for a school that is at the lower end of the NIL support. We need to keep that going. If we hire a coach from the outside, we lose that identity as he will install his own system. Groom from within. That is the key to sustained success IMO.3 points

Eagles is our mascot but Mean Green is our nickname. It's similar to Nebraska, which has a mascot of Cornhusker but nickname of Big Red.3 points

As @greenjoestated, let's take care of what we can take care of and make NT a place coaches want to coach.3 points

I can't disagree with anything you're saying if ACC comes poaching and we're sitting here with Rice, Tulsa, and ULM/LAT as our most local conference peers. If that is the case, and it's a somewhat likely scenario, we need to be looking into the PAC as a viable option and not hush-hush turning them down. If anything, we probably should be lifting our skirt a little bit to keep it open as an option.3 points

Ran across these Football video clips from the 1970's Fry era.... https://digital.library.unt.edu/search/?fq=str_title_serial:"Hayden Fry NTSU Coaching Film Collection"2 points

We have people on gmg.com that don't think we're a good (MBB) program until you're T25. CFB brands and rankings shape their view of MBB brands and rankings. I don't think these wins you listed look meaningful to the casual fan. Which is unfortunate.2 points

What sucks about our NCAAT run was that had to be the year Covid limited capacity and pushed all the games to Indianapolis. It was anywhere closeby we would have had a lot of people travelling.2 points

Corky Nelson was in 1AA about ‘83. Hayden’s were in ‘76 ( biggest guarantee NT ever got. Darrell Royal said if we were good enough to play we were good enough to split the gate. Also nice that President of UT was Loraine Rogers an NT alum). Earl Campbell beat us in ‘76 not UT (Miss. State clipped our best defensive player out of bounds and put him out for UT game). Jordan Case was QB for second Fry game against UT( about ‘79). We ran a reverse with a pass at the end of the play. The UT DB was soo confused that he tripped over his own feet trying to get back and a floater of a pass got caught at the one. Both UT games with Fry were thrillers. People who think we should have stayed in Missouri Valley did not know that the expansion committee in that league met secretly and added Indiana State and Illinois State when Fry wanted to add Southern Miss. We had the votes to get into SWC but TCU & SMU LOBBIED to keep us out. I was in NT President’s box for Corky’s game. UT Presidents box was right next to us. The UT President was profusely sweating when we were nine points up going into fourth quarter. Only time I ever saw UT students allowed around the end zone and on the field. The refs could not tell where the end line of the end zone was and called a TD even though they could not tell if receiver was in or out. Maybe the best job of scouting and coaching I have ever seen and we had 1AA limits on number of players which really hurt us in fourth quarter when defense was really tired.2 points

I don't think so. That would be considered N-I-L money from private entities. You know, what the actual rule was made for. This ruling sounds like it's coming down due to institutions taking on the NIL funding in-house and dispersing checks like SMU back in the day. It has morphed into true pay-for-play. And in that case, yeah, Title IX would/should apply.2 points
-
Really though, this will probably affect the P4s and wealthier G5s than those with limited money like us. Some of these schools are paying $4 million plus for a QB. Find me a women's sport that with receive any pay close to that.2 points

"Also, the Bobcats are good enough – they have gone bowling each of the past two seasons." Man if this is the criteria, we should be considered a powerhouse program after going bowling 7 out of the last 9 seasons lol2 points

Wait ! This isn’t the “great robbery in Austin” game. That was a Corkey Nelson coached game. This is much earlier than that. Right ?2 points

UTA has a lot of similarities to our situation. They are a large, public University, same enrollment as us, non-power athletic conference, affected by DFW attractions (like us) for basketball attendance. I started at UTA, and I hated it, mainly because of their lack of athletic facilities, campus culture, and non emphasis on athletics. I don't want us to become the same! Why, besides age and size, do you think the Pit sucks? It has great sight lines, fans can be close to the action, even court-side. Big, nice open concourses for food. I have never seen one opponent fan criticize it other than not being full. That, as others have mentioned, is fixable with the right AD and some better marketing people/ideas.2 points

Sorry if this was posted but this board gets busy and I haven’t seen the thread. i sure hope this happens! Would make things so much better to have just the one window!2 points

All three ranked teams that were in action tonight lost, and all three were on the road. It helps us in some small ways that two of the three winners were teams NT has beaten. But, I think the bigger lesson here is just how damn hard it is to win on the road.2 points
-
Being almost as old as dirt, no this team is not the best in NT history. NT didn't win the MVC, but those Joe Hamilton, Leroy Winfield led teams were way ahead of where NT currently is. A battle between the current teams and the high offense Blakeley teams would be interesting. My thoughts are that NT current teams play great basketball, but are far behind some past teams in the talent levels. That is a huge factor that demonstrates how good this coaching staff is.2 points

The Super Pit is still a great facility. Minnesota's gym that we won at earlier this season is 101 years old, lol. UTA said all the things you mentioned when they and their 1200 fans left Texas Hall. They built the $80mil University Park Center and moved in the same time we built Apogee/DATCU stadium. They now draw 1200 fans.2 points

Not good. Maybe we should start poking around at that. Otherwise, we'll get left with our pants down and our ____ in our hand.2 points

Yes, and there were whispers that the season before - the one that didn't get to go to a postseason - had a Mean Green team that was even better.2 points

Well, we did do that awesome Nightmare on Elm Street event prior to the season off the Square - which was awesome. But after that, we haven’t had very consistent or effective promotion. Maniacs to this point have not really made their presence felt. Hope that changes in the Spring semester.2 points
-
The AD pushing the Maniacs to get the students involved was a good idea, but seems to have fizzled this year. We (fans and students) need the AD to push more to both groups. I haven't seen much pushing...other than a last minute tweet for a retro night one day before the game. Lame.2 points

To my thinking, we are still the Eagles and we are also the Mean Green. Might as well take the eagle off the helmet and off the field if we aren't the Eagles.2 points

It's kind of funny. Back then the student side was packed and nobody from Denton showed up on the press row side. Now it's just the opposite. I remember the Dorm associations and greeks going to the games. Good times.2 points
