  1. I really DO NOT like the endzone rendering. It looks like a lot of wasted space (roof) that could be used for some great elevated seating. It also replaces a large central videoboard with a wimpy one in the corner? Let's try another design!

  2. And 69th best comment is ignorance al, because it assumes that all teams in the tourney were better without even taking into consideration the low-major teams getting their autobids. I would say more like 35-38th best, which I believe was our NET at the end of that year. Still the highest ever ranked NET team to not make an at-large bid.

  3. D1 football has about 130 teams. D1 men’s basketball has almost 400 teams. 69th in basketball is closer to being a Top 25 team in football. And in reality, that UNT NIT winner could have very well made the same Final Four run that FAU made if we had been allowed into the NCAA tournament.

  4. Many will disagree, but this also why we need to setup a Non-Con Rivalry Game with Tx State, fans obviously love it.

  5. on this topic Im hauling my trailer up there on feb. 1st and cooking before the game up on the concourse. That usually gets a good crowd out. the whole tailgate thing before the game. lets see how it works this year. not sure why there hasn't been any marketing started on this topic so here it is. Don't shoot the messenger

  6. I have two free tickets (third row, center court) to the January 22 men’s game vs. Temple to anyone who hasn’t attended a men’s game this season and is curious about what all the fuss is about. DM me.

  7. I'm not trying to scold anyone here, but what's it gonna take for more people to come out and support our basketball teams? And other sports - softball and women's soccer are always solid, and volleyball just made a promising coaching hire. Our basketball teams are a combined 23-9, which is the best in The American. They're also a combined 17-1 at The Super Pit. But no one is showing up for games. I don't want this to turn into a bitch fest about our marketing. It is probably deserved, but the people on this board likely follow our athletics department on some other social media or email list. Every Monday on Twitter I see a post about what teams are playing at home this week. I know some aren't a big fan of basketball, do you dislike it more than you like the Mean Green? Many are rightfully getting turned off by NIL and the transfer portal. I don't blame you. But the coaching staff for the men are putting together its' school record eighth straight winning season. With Burton, the women won't be far behind. In football, I get it adds up for a family of four - tickets, parking, concessions. But the other five spectator sports offer free parking and normally a hella great ticket deal. Season tickets for basketball start at $99 (like $6.50/home game). If you like soccer, softball, and/or volleyball, an Olympic pass will get you a GA ticket for every home game for $75 (less than $2/ticket!). Again, not trying to call out the board, just want to raise awareness for our other sports, especially if you are feeling sour about football. Come out to The Pit at least one time the remainder of the season! The men and women deserve it. Next women's home game is this Wednesday, 1/15 at 6:30pm against defending conference champ Rice. The men play at home a week after that on the 22nd against Temple - last year's conference runner-up. Or, if you live in the Central Texas or Houston area, look for upcoming games at UTSA next Saturday, 1/18 and at Rice Tuesday, 2/11. GMG!

  8. Re-design the end-zone facility…look really cheap! Let’s wait until we can do it right!

  9. Are you pleading for the student body to show up or alumni? A 6:30 game on a Wednesday is a B for someone that doesn’t live in close proximity. I live in Allen and could never consider that drive. We go to Americans hockey games as they are in our back yard. They aren’t very good but more of a deterrent for us to go to more, is no one is there….on a Tuesday night. If there stands were filled, it would feel more legit and we’d probably go more, even if the quality of play wasn’t there. I suspect the student body wants that same ‘experience’. When I was there so many years ago, we wanted to be where the action was, even if it was dash riprocks. So I see a bit of chicken and egg here. People don’t go because people don’t go. If people would go, more people would go. football games are so much easier to plan for. 1 game a week, generally on a Saturday. You can make a day/event out of it. Weekly, more frequent basketball games, on weeknights, don’t offer the same advantages. All that said, I applaud your plea and hope that the tides change. Would love to hear that the Pit is packed routinely.

  10. wow. not sure I've ever seen little-man syndrome so clearly (and violently) personified. don't worry, lil buddy, we'll get you a step stool (from a private company, not the government though...that'd be a hand-out)

  11. You missed his point entirely. He’s not talking about having another“but Denton hates us” pity fest. if the same people (or just half of them) who can manage to make it to Datcu to watch a sub .500 team would make it literally across the street to the pit to watch a team that has won 🏆, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

  12. If they were smart they'd realize UT and A&M will have the same attendance regardless and fostering the other 11 FBS programs could provide a more lucrative economic impact to those 11 other cities. Same for the FCS programs. Games in Austin and College Station aren't feeding El Paso and Denton. To add, maybe somebody in our AD needs to use that to entice local residents and their businesses to support the program more. How many restaurants would a full Apogee fill before and after games? Same for hotels, AirBnBs, etc...

  13. I am. Haven't seen anything to indicate Mosley is anywhere close on this. The fact that it's separated out into two phases on lightthetower, and the FAQ is basically warning that just because phase 1 is done doesn't mean phase 2 will start immediately after gives me very little confidence in this AD.

  14. Agree, I've never liked the design they've shown for this side. It looks like a portable you add on to schools. Louisiana Tech did it right for $22M.

  16. Where did you get those numbers? He was 190-146 at North Texas with only two losing seasons in 11 years as the head coach. He took us to two NCAA tournaments and was a great representative of our school.

  17. So this is what a national search instead of promoting from within gets you? Dang. Any other tips in case anybody important up in Denton is reading?

  18. I get the UH hate, but this seems fairly topical no? I too would be interested in what the typical AAC budget will look like once revenue sharing starts.

  19. It definitely starts with the students. There are too many alumni I've talked to my age or older who have still never been to a basketball game at The Pit. It is much easier to get them back if they've already experienced a game in the Mac/Hodge era. Otherwise it'll probably never happen. What is confusing though is how 7000+ people showed up last January to watch us beat SMU, the players invited the students to come party with them on the court, and students decided not to come back.

  21. It's been said 3 or 4 times but just for good measure, this is incredibly ignorant. About 20 teams in the tournament get in off auto-bids of winning their smaller conference. I have no issue with it but in no way does that equate to being the 69th best team. UNT finished that year 38th in NET ranking (what the committee is supposed to use when determining at-large candidates), higher than powers like North Carolina, Michigan, Florida, Villanova, and more. We had a higher NET ranking than 31 teams that made the tournament that year. It was a midmajor getting snubbed is all

  23. Attendance is the same as when J.J. was here and we ran an up pace offense so I would disagree.

  24. I know we're all sick of moral victories, but this is probably the best news UNT Athletics has had when it's come to TV ratings before, and the team represented us well. Plus, Mestemaker's performance has overshadowed TXST's win.

  25. It’s been my impression that people that refer to the University of North Texas as UNT are not athletics fans. Your mileage may differ.

  27. On another note wasn't construction supposed to start at the end of this last FB season? Also from the site: So are these renderings not the final design? Under the cost section How is there not a set cost already? I'm really not trying to bash the department, but this just seems very typical of the things we complain about. No clear and defined data or communication of that data, lack of organization and planning. I can't be the only one who thinks this right?

  28. Yes to the bold. To the rest, we beat a major program at home this season. UNT doesn't get that opportunity very often. UNT went on the road and beat another major program this season. UNT scheduled a mid-major in App St to come to town and we beat them. We have 11-4. 165-84 over the last 8+ years. Winning has happened. The basketball culture is ingrained. We have shook trees. As for signature wins, we have beaten countless major programs over the years. We have hit home and road buzzer beaters. We have created rivalries through success, not geography. The win and they will come is here and now. Yet, our alum and locals don't come. Our administration doesn't market them as they deserve to be marketed.

  30. Stop accepting mediocrity. Almost winning a game is still a loss. Give people a reason to care. Want more butts in seats? Make the gameday experience unique.

  32. Think this is a result of not getting many offers or the new staff making it a point to recruit him back to Denton?
    3 points
  33. According to Burton, and I'm sure it's the same with some men's teams, some of the intra-TX teams that you'd think would bring more fans will only come play us if we give them a check. I think investing more in our schedule would be worth it for the larger crowds (plus extra tickets/concessions sold). Stop scheduling Mississippi Valley State. Get a UTA, Texas State, SHSU, LA Tech, UTEP, or SFA in here. Renewing rivalries with WKU and MTSU would also be fun. Agreed, I feel like there was more in the concourse a few seasons ago? But now it is mostly bare and dead. I would like to see somewhere on the concourse a spirit shop you walk through, like the Hangar at the AAC in Dallas. Perhaps it could be the on-campus NIL Store to provide an easy opportunity for our athletes to make more NIL earnings.

  34. Congress getting involved means it will be even more f**ked up than it is now. Anything the nitwits in DC touch turns to shit and costs to much $$$

  35. Exactly. Seems like every couple years another successful FCS school makes the leap to FBS yet fans on this board keep trying to push the idea it would be worth dropping to FCS if we could compete for championships. Silliness.

  37. 28+ thousand attended. I know TSU out numbered NT fans but was pleasantly surprised by all the green I saw around me. One day we will win a bowl game.

  38. Yeah, the average attendance at games for UNT just screams unending and undying support…
    2 points
  39. Our lack of attendance is a result of many factors. I think it’ll pick up slightly when students come back but the promotion for games + home opponents have taken a significant dip from last season. I personally thought last year our crowds were FINE. (not great but moving in the right direction). We drew over 5000+ three separate games last season and 4000+ a few more. Last year I remember seeing signs stuck in the ground around campus promoting the basketball games and the university mass texting all students informing them about games with ticket info. These are little things but they worked.

  40. This is a major reason why we ran off our old AD and brought Nuñez in.
    2 points
  41. Be careful…people on here don’t want you to say that Denton doesn’t love and support their Mean Green… Never mind about the attendance stuff for the last 70 years.

  42. Nah. More DEI policies. Further, we should start having leg amputations to get rid of all these tall people. I think heightotism is real. We need to be all the same height. I mean... why not.
    2 points
  43. 1) nobody has mentioned your name or school in this post yet here you are. 2) the thread is about basketball attendance (and other non-football sports). I know it's not the NCAA tournament but I'd imagine winning the NIT and a 31 win season just 2 years ago would count as "some sort of national attention." You look at the winners of the past 12 years and see Baylor, Minnesota, Stanford, TCU, George Washington, Texas, Penn State, Memphis, Xavier, and Seton Hall in the champion column. How nobody in Denton recognizes the achievement of North Texas also being on that list baffles me.
