  1. Sorry, but I've grown tired of this. Our AD doesn't even try. The university kills events that bring them and the town together, Homecoming Parade for instance, and shoots out form letter replies when asked about it. I got two "eyerolls" for my suggestions for Retro Night. Anybody attend last night's game vs. Rice? What was retro about it? Was that even mentioned? They don't try. That's what pisses me off.

  2. Not sure what we are lol'ing about. He is a productive and versatile player that can spot play in a lot of roles. He will do well at UTEP.

  3. Excuses are getting old. I used to tell my staff, “don’t tell why you cannot do something, tell me how you are going to do it and what I can do to help”. I do not believe anyone is “working it” a little creative thinking and hard work will go a long way!

  6. Adding Texas State feels like such an easy call to me. It would be good for attendance and give our fans another easy road game.

  7. Understood. I'm sure stuff can be done on a smaller scale for us while we build up. Some of this stuff like transparency costs nothing. I've mentioned before having a live count of subscribers posted on the Light the Tower website. Doubt that would be hard to do... just brainstorming. Those in charge should be brainstorming but it seems they're just sitting on their hands.

  8. Pretty sure he wanted to keep him but they couldn’t find a scholarship for now. Was told he could play in bowl game even if he was in portal. If he didn’t find a place he liked he could come back. Took all the one reps during bowl prep then only two carries in bowl game so that pretty much tells you what the future would be. Hard to turn down scholarship even though he wanted to stay.

  9. Sorry, if you don't have an SEC or Big10 patch you're not on any lifeboat.

  10. Agree with this. Denton has never embraced UNT as "it's" school to support with the town.

  11. A troll? I have been a fan, including student and alumni, since 1965. Think you've got me mistaken with someone else. 1. Do that every year. 2. Shirt giveaway for last night's retro night. They called it "Retro Night" and did nothing retro other than give out t's to the first 500 fans. How did they market that? Email to alumni and ticket holders three or four days prior. 3. Do people really look at the schedule and decide that frisbee dogs will make them attend? 4. Denton student day. I am assuming you are referencing the 11am tip-off women's game that, by nature of the tip time, limits attendance to those students. Sorry, I see a lack of creativity and effort because they were doing these same things in the mid 70's when I attended as a kid. I am well aware that we don't choose the announcers. Not my point. Do I think they provided them with incorrect information? Nope, that topic was probably never addressed in the production meeting, but someone from the department should be monitoring the broadcast to correct stupid comments like the one mentioned last night and referenced above. He was complimentary of UNT during the broadcast, but he pulled that "fact" out of his ass and someone should be there to correct them.

  12. In 2 years has this staff addressed any of the concerns we've had since the beginning? This year's team was almost a carbon copy of last year's; fast offense and poor defense, vaunted offense sputters out at key times when defense does play well, poor game management by Morris, same undersized lines, same almost could have won that game scenarios, etc. Going into year 3 how do we know any of that will change? We don't, hence the uncertainty.

  13. You are being redundant. Big12 Money = TV money. Oil money = West Texas money. Yet, you are right. We have neither. They also have a niche. TT is the premiere university in a very vast area. It also helps their cause that most people that have collegiate aspirations chooses TT as their primary university destination by choice within said area. I think more than anything, they are a true "strength by numbers" university/athletic department.

  14. I posted this in the game thread, but it fits better here: Dominating win in front of a tiny sleeping crowd in a canvas of a facility. Love the win. Hate the aesthetics. Easily the worst attended game/atmosphere I have watched on TV save for Grambling at TX Southern the other night. Yay. UNT has to do better at treating every game in "revenue" sports as if it's the Wyoming at North Texas football game. Frankly, it's teetering on downright embarrassment. Fix the attendance. I get that our alum, students, and fans are clearly a part of the problem. We have always been a huge part of the problem. But the athletic department has shown the ability to market and boost attendance when they feel like it(?). They seemingly don't do much do market this success, these athletes or this coaching staff. And the result of that is the nightmare TV environment we witnessed last night.

  16. We knew it. That's why it was all hands on deck hailmary time. The P4 and media companies are coming to screw everyone else.....then they will attempt to screw each other. Every man for himself.

  17. I know what you’re getting at and you’re right about the need for transparency. Just know that it’s much easier for a place like Tech to show what we don’t because they have a ton of money compared to us. They have TV money, they have Big 12 money, they have oil money, they have West Texas money, and they have no competition for eyeballs in Lubbock. We have none of it—basically the exact opposite situation.

  18. The worst thing they did was end the Mean Green Club. Now it's little to no communication or insight on what's happening and pass the collection plate to buy a player for 10 months that will just leave before the Bowl game.

  19. Lorient can do it all on offense. A real treat to watch. Offense is firing on all cylinders. Taking good shots earlier in the shot clock, moving the ball around early, sets are starting earlier. This team has made a huge leap the past few games.

  22. 164 currently in the NET rankings. Not just no, but hell no. Any additions the AAC does from this point forward need to at least accomplish one of three things: hugely successful in football, hugely successful in basketball, or a massive brand (eg. Air Force). Texas State doesn't check any of those three boxes.

  23. Take away his 2 FCS Texas (ACU and SFA) wins and in two seasons Morris is now 0-5 against in-state FBS teams. So much for those Texas ties everyone seems to want to put as the number 1 priority in hiring a head football coach. He's 6-10 (.375) against conference opponents...those teams we are suppose to be able to compete against. He was lucky in that 4 of those 6 wins came against Temple and Tulsa who went a combined 13-35 (.270) in the last two seasons. Seriously, given his performance here (and elsewhere for that matter) what exactly gives everyone so much hope that he's the guy to take us to the next level?

  24. So pull, dare I say it, a SMU and just start saying "UNT, Denton's University" locally. Force Denton's hand.

  25. We have the volume, just nobody cultivating those relationships. Seems Denton proper feels little to no ownership in the university even though it's a large driver of the local economy. As @UNTLiferccommented, things like the homecoming parade have disappeared. They've made every move necessary to make the school and the city separate entities.

  26. I didn't notice any fans on the TV broadcast wearing the T-shirt handout. I saw one 12-year-old with a bright green Flying Worm sweatshirt on...it looked great by the way! Nothing else retro noticeable or discussed on the broadcast...other than how the Super Pit got it's name and the Snake Pit got it's name. The AD, most staff, admin, coaches, etc are not NT alum nor attached to it other than for the paycheck and job. Fans are here because of support for the school or team, not the paying job. Fans have been around long enough to see effort or lack of effort.

  27. After the bowl, I’m of the opinion that we should have Texas State on the schedule for an annual home and home series, even if we aren’t in a conference with them. It was a great atmosphere. School is close. Large public Texas institution. Fans are fun and also like to party. What is not to like?

  28. For the life of me, I couldn't tell you. The t-shirts had the flying worm, I guess, but I wasn't one of the lucky few who snagged one. Oh well, fun game to watch...

  29. Loved the focused, fearless attitude of Wright. He played with a chip on his shoulder, and you could tell the Memphis game lit a fire under him. He needs to come out every game looking like that.

  31. That's why I wouldn't get too comfortable in the ACC....not even in the Big 12 the real world ranking is: SEC / Big 10 Big 12 ACC G5 If Clemson and Florida St get what they want and get to the SEC the ACC will go the way of the Pac 12. Even within the P4, it's really the P2. Ohio State and Georgia don't care about Boston College and Cincy, etc. (or SMU and UH...sorry but it's true) There's a top 60 or so now. They want it to be the top 30 or so.

  32. Good dominating win, honestly I expected a little more from Rice, but it was an excellent way to rebound from the Memphis loss. Also UNT went from 70 to 60 in the NET, thats a huge jump at this point in the season, and I can't figure out why a Q3 win at home cause that.

  33. 5th game in a row and 6th for the season where we could not bring in more than 3K. This time for an in-state battle against an 11-4 and 2-0 in conference Rice. Only 2,836 showed up for a team that just took a top-25 Memphis team to the limit on the road on national TV. We are now down an average of 869 or 22.79% compared to the first 9 home games last year. The 7,239 in attendance for last year's SMU game is now in the mix which accounts for the huge deficit we face. When compared to last year's full-year average attendance we are now down 1,181 or 28.6% per game. This is for a team that is 9-0 at home this season! The coaching staff and players are doing their part. Really, really, really disappointed in the inability of the AD to do its job. Sure, the students are still out, but last year we brought in 3,376 for Tulane on 1/6. Where did 540 fans go?

  34. UTEP just signed QB Malachi Nelson, former USC/Boise St QB. A 5-star out of HS, this is the highest rated recruit in the history of the Miner program, at the most magnetic position in the sport. It might have swayed Porter to go to El Paso.

  45. I personally hope they reduce the number of bowls available next year and fix the stupid transfer calendar. There were only a couple of bowl games this year that saw both teams come in with near full strength rosters. Then you have the playoffs happening around these games at home sites. Almost no bowl game matchup had any kind of normal pregame hype to get excited about. Its another chance to see your team play, but at a premium price, likely involves some sort of travel (to not always vacation destinations) and half your starters might be missing. It's a complete wreck. As far as our game goes, we were lucky to not have to travel too far, but unlucky to be missing our QB and knowing we were going to see a walk-on in his place. Turns out that walk-on played a heckuva game, but going in you expect a mismatch and blowout loss. Not a good recipe to sell tickets.

  46. As expected. People want to join a movement. If there's no signs of progress, you're going to have a hard time cultivating new donors. Meanwhile, Transparency.

  47. Someone else said it best. If you are outside the P4, it's just a patch on the jersey when it comes to talent level. The main differences are the media allocations and exposure, but if we don't get our sh*t together quickly, I don't see AAC getting near the deal they got last time.
