This is what I call a “growth game.” This is the kind of game Hodge can use the film from to show the team the razor thin margin between winning and losing against the best teams in our league. If we are who we hope we are, our team walks away from this knowing we CAN beat anyone come conference tourney time, we just have to execute.13 points

This is ridiculous. Chandler Rogers had two carries for Southern Miss in 2019, spent two seasons at ULM, one year at North Texas then a year at Cal. How is he still eligible? This is taking away opportunities from other deserving players. If the NCAA loses every lawsuit, why doesn’t some overlooked high school recruit sue over the NCAA’s failure to enforce eligibility rules? Let’s clear out these guys who are sticking around college football forever. Chandler Rogers has had his college career. Move on and give a real college student an opportunity.8 points

I can’t believe we held them to 21 rebounds. Our guards hit their shots this games a win.7 points

Wright and Jossell going 0-fer from the field, Haggerty's made moon-ball from near-logo. You just won't see these things in round 2. Not away from Memphis, either.6 points

Man , most games will be a dog fight to the end in the AAC, and I like our chances except for no big time go to guy. I am blown away by how well respected our team is now . Pretty cool.6 points

This probably is not politically correct but back in the day my response to this post would be " some people would bitch if they were hung with a new rope." Now I can't say this in the world today, so I am not, but if I could this is what I would say.6 points

And fans saying stuff like this can lose me with trying to imply that the people supporting this program for 5, 10, 20, 50+ years with UNT degrees on the wall are the problem. It’s literally OUR program, not the coaches or mercenary players that will never graduate from the institution’s program. We can literally say anything and be critical about whatever we want to. We’ll all be here after they’re all long gone. Fans didn’t create this idiotic system we’re all collectively subjected to.5 points

The stats tell that part of story quite well. I'm not so sure about Mestemaker "proving" anything though. It's possible he earns the starting spot next year. He has moxie. But if he does, man I'm really pissed off if I'm one of the bigger NIL donors watching my money go to Pofferberger who'd be riding pine while this guy who's just happy to be on scholarship now is starting.5 points

"You guys actually outplayed us. Well disciplined team. Ran the clock down and executed. Good coaching," per Memphis diehard GMG5 points

On the road with no scoring from our leading scorer. I love these guys effort. This is fixable when we see them in conference Tourny!!5 points

Extremely proud of the effort of our team today. We are very close to being the best team in the conference and Memphis knows it!4 points

plus let's not forget a Haggerty prayer from 30' going in. we're likely not into the foul game in the last minute or so without that bucket4 points

Perhaps, but I am going into 2025 with my cup half full instead of half empty. Besides, all the bitching has accomplished nothing and reinforces that repeating the same behavior expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.4 points

I like the grit of our team . I don’t know what the result will be today but I hope to see the rematch on a neutral court.4 points

Cal QB Chandler Rogers has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, @PeteNakos_ reports. The former USM, ULM and North Texas transfer has passed for 5,902 yards, 44 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in his career. https://x.com/TransferPortal_/status/18763354359597345243 points

I generally share this sentiment but it was actually new news this time. And you haven't moved on from UNT rejecting your admissions application 35 years ago, yet they still let you post.3 points

Texas State won the bowl game but the coverage that Mestemaker has brought in for UNT makes it feel like we won lol. Obviously a loss is still a loss but his performance really softened the blow3 points

His bowl performance proved to me that we would have been better off sitting Chandler a week or two. As for the starter next year, i don't know.3 points

I'm really struggling to understand the people on here... These aren't exact quotes, but very close, and if I needed to, I could go find each and every one. I just want to get the timeline of events, along with their perceived reactions from many on gmg.com straight: 1. (Around mid-October) "Chandler Morris is going to be the best QB we've ever had!!" 2a. (C Morris announces portal entry) "Oh no! We lost another great QB to NIL$$! We hate the system!" 2b. "Chandler was trending downward since the Tulane game and was basically a shell of himself. We won't miss him." 2c. "Haha, enjoy riding pine and losing at Virginia!" 3. "OH! We got our new QB in Reese Poffenbarger! Did you see what he did at Albany!?!?!? He's going to be great! Forget Chandler Morris!" 4a. "Mestemaker had an amazing game! He's going to be a great QB for us!!! Eric Morris is a QB Whisperer. ...Who's Reese Poffenbarger?" 4b. "We would have won the bowl game if Chandler had played!" 5. "Chandler is not our "problem" anymore!!1!" Please help me. Who is Chandler Morris?3 points

My non UNT co worker that has no interest in football just sent me this reel. It’s a very cool story! I hope he sticks around and pushes Poffenbager. Iron sharpens iron.3 points

Exactly, isn't that the point of the forum? To express all parts of the equation? Mechanical and otherwise. Sometimes it can just be an outlet valve for those who feel the same way. Second part I agree with. I am not one of those complaining about the moves of the AD. IMO, jury is still out on Morris, but most of the jurors are swaying the wrong way as of today. Next year is make or break for me. Getting to a conference championship is minimum.3 points

lol I remember a couple of years ago at the Frisco Bowl against Boise State. UNT fans were getting mad at me and my friends for standing up during big plays, cheering too loud and some of the UNT fans wouldn’t even high five us. Instead, those fans were just sitting there with their blankets looking like they were watching an episode of the Young and Restless. I love my alma mater but the UNT culture needs a big kick in a$$. North Dakota State plays Montana State tomorrow for the FCS championship in Frisco and I wish we had the fraction of both those fan bases.3 points

And when EM foolishly goes for it on 4th down and fails, we can all yell…Womp Womp!!!2 points

Sure. And that’s part of my point. I think our fanbase has standards that forced the Littrell dismissal. My original point was in response to the “If UNT is ever going to get out of the shadow of itself, we have to stop making ourselves feel better after losses and focus instead on how to win.” I just don’t think that’s what us holding us back, as evidenced by the hypothetical backlash you mentioned that was waiting had they kept Littrell after that 7-win season.2 points

I know I probably come across as being a big fan of EM, but I’m actually one of the jurors swaying the wrong way. I was okay with him being hired, but many of the in-game decisions have soured me to some degree. I currently support him (ie: hope he is successful here), but the rope is a lot shorter.2 points

We got him. Yanta, Blair, and Nnanna should be a really experienced interior offensive line with a ton of career starts amongst them. Nelson and Obidegwu at the tackles and you’re looking at an offensive line with over 110 career starts collectively at the division 1 level, by my count.2 points

You can analyze every game to see where you can improve, and that happens on here and of course in the coaching room. As does with all other teams. I think the frustration point is that the "figuring out how to get real victories" hasn't happened. That's the whole point of the moral victory conversation. I love the story about Drew doing what he did. It was amazing and got us great national coverage, but just like the year we did the return heard round the world against Arkansas, what happened after that? It's one of those things that when you have been a fan for 20 years, you stop looking at these little things that happen that don't mean a ton in the grand scheme of things. If this was my first 5 years following this program, I might be over the moon about the DC hire and what MIGHT happen based on what I see on paper, but I have been burned too many times that way with this program. Not to mention, it happened a year too late. I really don't like being so negative about my team, but I hate the feeling of letdown way more.2 points

I'm sure $mut wanted the exposure. Just like planting their coach in the stands watching and happens? to get a live in-game interview while our Bowl is going on. Low class.2 points
