This was my 81st men's basketball game since my freshman year in 2014. Best game I've seen in person, and I was in Ruston for the big comeback against LA Tech. Overcome an 18-point lead against a bitter rival on national TV with a decent crowd. Imagine a full Pit.13 points

What a finish. The way go get around the ESPN and ESPN2 and all the alphabet soup is to come to the games. There’s nothing like all the fans standing and yelling “DEFENSE” or NORTH, TEXAS, NORTH, TEXAS, in unison.11 points

I was on a flight that happened to have the U available (thanks JetBlue) I’m pretty sure I was close to having an air marshal have to speak to me in the first half.11 points

This win is a testament and credit to Coach Hodge and his staff for putting this team together. They put this team together in large part to beat a known commodity in UAB. Our team built with clutch players/ winners and added size with Newell and Lorient.7 points

It was a really gutty win. Flipped the script on them after halftime. After playing one of the worst halves we had under Ross as coach, we took over the game in the 2nd. Intensity ratcheted WAY up, we closed the rebounding gap, and got way more aggressive taking the ball to the basket, forcing the fouls. Impressive job by the guys from the FT line tonight. Fans in attendance got another thrilling win. Wright came up so clutch again.5 points

Who would have guessed when you have to buy players that they would not give a damn about the school. Again I know many of you will jump in how this all starts because the schools were so greedy but if you're not realizing the players have caught up on the greed then you have your head buried in the sand. With all the lawsuits going on I really wish groups of students would start suing to stop mandated athletic fees. Students should not have to compensate professional sports.4 points

Wow...what a way to send 2024 to the history books! If they didn't before, UAB must really hate us now. We looked like it was all over but the crying in the first half and then stormed back in the second half with Wright knocking down the buzzer beater for the win. Really proud of this team showing something for the way they fought back. 1-0 to start the conference campaign. On the attendance front, not so good. Our 4th sub-3000 home game in a row and 5th for the season. 425 (if we had hit our first 8 average) missed a hell of a game. Maybe they were watching on the U. We are now down 12.6% through the first 8 games and down 28.6% compared to last year's full year average. We have some work to do just to get back to respectability.4 points

DENTON — Atin Wright hit a game-winning 3-pointer to cap off an 18-point comeback as the UNT men's basketball team opened American play with a 78-75 victory over reigning league tournament champion UAB at the Super Pit on Tuesday. North Texas (10-3, 1-0) trailed by 18 in the final seconds of the first half and went into the break down 17. Early in the second half, the Mean Green locked in defensively and went on an 11-0 run to chip away at the deficit. Senior Latrell Jossell buried 3-pointer after 3-pointer, finishing with a single game season-high six and ending the game with 20 points, his 10th career 20-point game. With 3:57 left in the game UNT captured its first lead since early in the first half as senior Johnathan Massie finished a layup to put North Texas up 71-69. The game went back and forth from there on out but the final shot belonged to Wright who sank his contested 3-pointer as the clock hit zero. Wright finished with a game-high 22 points and was 11-11 from the free throw line. "It really was a tale of two halves," head coach Ross Hodge said. "We've competed with these guys a lot through the years and it's hard to explain just how physical they drive the basketball and how aggressive they are. We locked in defensively and started grabbing rebounds and getting stops." Next up for UNT will be a trip to No. 21 Memphis on Jan. 5. The Mean Green are aiming for their first road win over a top 25 opponent since 1971. And you know they’ll play the game winning shot on the football broadcast! Good stuff.4 points

All good. Interested to see what the participation will look like in that tournament. I don't think we get a shot in that format, but I'd gladly take another banner too. Speaking of which what a banner second half. Awesome win. Super fun environment at the Super Pit, especially during the second half comeback. Atin Wright strikes again. Happy New Year, everyone. San Marcos had 14 in the portal so they won’t be the same either. I am a football fan of North Texas for 60 years. I have served on the alumni association’s BOD for a dozen years with two as President and on the Foundation Board for nine years with a year as Treasurer. You either support your university or not. FB and BB are not mutually exclusive just as I was a friend of Coach Fry as well asCoach Blakely.4 points

Maybe I should have said that I have a hard time believing that BYU and Colorado players weren’t treated to the same bowl experience.3 points

I don’t know that I believe this story. Bowl gifts have nothing to do with NIL and to the best of my knowledge, come from the bowls/bowl sponsors, not from the schools. I have a hard time believing BYU players were treated to a great bowl experience while the Colorado players were not.3 points

Thats the great thing about basketball, you don't have to. You get several good players and make it work in a system. Football is much harder to do this because you need more money and more skilled players. It has been stated many times over, but no one is advocating dropping football, it's just more allocation to basketball than it has now. If that has to come from football, I think it makes sense. It really wouldn't take much at all. Probably what football spends on jock straps.3 points

Massive opportunity and measuring stick game on Sunday. Interested to see how we stack up. Need that 2nd half UAB effort and intensity for 40 minutes @ Memphis if we’re gonna have a chance to knock them off on their home floor.3 points

I know all about the official tailgate. It will be great and I’ve purchased tickets for it, but I plan to have about 4 hours of tailgating done before that even starts. If a day of tailgating doesn’t start with a good breakfast served, you’re losing out.3 points

2,979 announced tonight against UAB. These past two games against UAB and HCU have looked the most full on the sidelines, but it seems like we are reporting closer to the number of tickets scanned than we were at the beginning of the season, when it felt like we were announcing tickets distributed. It appeared there was a bus load of prospective students wearing "UNT 25" shirts in the student section. None of them were standing, but at least it made those sections look decent. Kudos to whoever sold that group. We've got one more home game on the break, then the marketing team needs to kick it into overdrive for the last seven games. By that point, football season will be done.3 points

Well that was an emotional roller coaster. 2 different teams 1st and 2nd half, thought the way the refs called the game basically just flipped halves in our favor for the most part a lot of fouls driving to basket for us in 2nd half. They missed 2 huge calls IMO there was a post play when their player completely hooked Sissoko (Kind of hard to do because he's huge and doesn't move) but they kicked it and hit a 3 I believe. Hodge was PISSED, never seen him that animated with a ref before. The charge call on Massie out of the timeout was questionable the guy was on Massie's side as he drove to the basket. Overall I was surprised they called the 1 foul on Floyd fouling their 3 point shooter but not at the end of the game. I know I know they aren't calling it unless its egregious at the end of the game but it was as bad or worse than the previously called foul on the 3pt shot. Watching UAB players exit the court there was not much togetherness IMO. I feel like if we lost a similar game our guys would be picking each other up, maybe I'm wrong.3 points

6 more seasons of contract $$. Let’s see where college football is then. Army was a good addition for the AAC. We also achieved some solidarity in the Conference as Memphis, Tulane, etc rebuffed PAC overtures.2 points

Football drives the bus, even if we’re only .500. Basketball has more games, however in this great MBB era the past 5 years, football has still been on more ESPN main channels more times. That’s National exposure and $$. Basketball can’t match it.2 points
