Glad he is staying for the Bowl. This is how it should be done....finish out the "whole" season before walking out on your team and school.6 points

I don’t want to sound like a hater on this dude, because he’s obviously a good player, but if he’s getting $8 million then there’s clearly a problem with NIL6 points

Some of you think these professional athletes have to go to classes?3 points

On the surface, how did he do more than Chandler Morris? Tulane was a good team, but how is this amount justified versus many others that had equally or even better numbers with a stronger strength of schedule. Maybe I am missing something here.3 points

Well, if he only makes one big play to help us win a bowl game, or conference championship game, or any game on our schedule that classifies as a "big time" game, then he has (IMHO) "taken us to the promise land". OR to use the newest football term "tush pushed" us into the promise land.....😎 And another thing. Please tell me the name of ANY RB in college history that personally took their team to the promise land. If you'll remember, we once had not one, but two, national rushing champions on our team. Neither of them took us to "the promise land". Unless you consider the NO bowl "the promise land". It distresses me to see the level of marginalization that is being directed at one of the most fiercely competitive, overachieving, players that ever put on a NT uniform. After reading all this, why should the other players on the team bust their collective asses for "good ol' North Texas"?3 points

Hurt my feelings? Here you go trying to marginalize again. I have absolutely no personal connection to Shane Porter, other than his representing my (our) school with extraordinary effort. I'm sorry you can't seem to see that.......or value his effort on behalf of our alma mater. You forgot a guy by the name of Abner Haynes. And right after him was Bobby Smith (#25 on your program) who was drafted by Buffalo. But one of my favorites of that era (60's) was the rushing leader for the 65 & 66 team, an ex-marine named Willie Cherry (#33 on your program). His numbers were pretty pathetic (397 and 218 respectively), by just about any era's standards, but his effort to get those numbers was pretty impressive. He was undersized, but he bit and clawed and gouged for every yard he got. In a lot of ways, Shane Porter reminds me of that guy.2 points

I’ve been saying this for years. SometImes momma’s ability to say “my baby plays at (insert school)” trumps what is best for the kid’s long-term success.2 points

Hopefully he learned from his mistakes this past year. We could have used him this season.2 points

Makes it sound like we are just the minor leagues for these guys. No NT HOF for youuuuuu!2 points

I think the fact that he's playing in the bowl game shows 1) he just wants to play and 2) it just shows more of the drive and commitment that's gotten him to where he his. I'm not gonna' fault him for leaving if they aren't rewarding him with a scholarship and especially if it looks like he isn't going to be in the main rotation next year. That feels like "thanks for bailing us out, now go sit down."2 points
-
I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. The kid was 4th string on a .500 team. So you feel we shouldn't try to upgrade the roster, including running back? Why are you so defensive about this particular player? As though the majority of the kids on the team don't bust their ass? "most fiercely competitive, overachieving, players that ever put on a NT uniform". Really? If he felt that way and/or the coaches, he may not have hit the portal. Kudos to him though, he followed his parents and a sibling to KState; where he mostly played on special. We had a need at RB and he moved over. Good story. I stand by my opinion that we need to always try to upgrade the roster at all positions. As for as other NT RB's that brought notoriety to the program with their impact: Patrick Cobb, Lance Dunbar, JaQuan Wilburn, Jeffrey Wilson, DeAundre Torrey, Kevin Galbreath, Antoine Jimmerson, Eric Pegram, Malcolm Jones, Bernard Jackson and Adeyi to name a few.2 points

Man, it's a weird weird world where actually going up to the NFL is a massive pay cut. Everything is stupid now.2 points

Updated for adding Sam Houston’s leading receiver Simeon Evans, offensive lineman Ugonna Nnanna who started about 9 games in his career at Virginia, and offensive lineman Jaymon Lamb who started at tackle for SFA this season.2 points

I don't care about blame. There's enough to go around. I'm fine with college football players being paid and them getting more transfer opportunities, but the way both of those things are currently implemented has been a Hindenburg-level disaster for college football. Uncontrolled and unaccountable money from boosters and a transfer portal during the season are terrible ideas.2 points
-
Apples to oranges. Any pro athlete can't jump from team to team under contract unless it's bought out in some way. They want to be paid like pro athletes but not treated like pro athletes when it's an inconvenience or detrimental. By all means, pay them, but bring all the other baggage as well.2 points

When the Pit is packed, really good environment. When its not... woof. The downfall of the Pit is not the amount of seats, it's its cavernous size. Although I think a new arena in the 6-7k seat mark is the sweet spot and would do wonders for game environment even when attendance is low.2 points

No, I’m saying it is becoming increasingly smart to recruit high school players in terms of maintaining your roster. The high school signees are the ones who are much more likely to stay despite having enough success here to be able to command P4 offers through the portal. For example, Brian Nelson is a 6’ cornerback who had 4 picks this year. Braydon Nelson started 9 games as a true freshman including about half at left tackle. They would both have a host of P4 offers if they hit the portal, but they have chosen to stay. For guys who we bring in through the portal, if they have seasons where they could command as many P4 offers as the Nelsons could right now, they are basically locks to enter the portal. But the guys who have been here since they graduated high school have shown far more loyalty in terms of staying out of the portal when they have the stock to get P4 offers through it.2 points

Only 2 of our 22 starters from our last game against Temple are in the portal. The high school guys who Morris have signed have pretty much all stayed, except for the guys who weren’t getting any playing time. Out of the 2023 and 2024 high school signees signed by Morris, Tyler Mercer is the only one to start and hit the portal. The other 2023 and 2024 HS Signees who have played extensively, Braydon Nelson, Brian Nelson, Evan Jackson, Landon Sides, Miles Coleman, Wyatt Young, Jaedon Langley, Taylor Starling, Quinton Hammonds have all played extensively or started as underclassmen the last two seasons and all seem pretty committed to the program. It seems your chances of keeping a starter is far higher if that guy is someone your HC signed out of high school. It’s a stronger relationship.2 points

Porter was absolutely clutch this year doing a job he wasn't brought in to do. I feel he'll be back but is testing the waters. Looks like a guy who really just wants playing time considering he already spent 3 years getting minimal action at the P4 level. If he returns, where do y'all think he is on the depth chart week 1 of 2025 after other guys get healtht?2 points
-
It's a shame they couldn't offer Porter a scholarship. Yet we take a chance on these project RBs that can't even crack the depth chart. Best of luck to him and Ragsdale.2 points

Yup. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. For now I have everyone’s eligibility listed in this depth chart based on if the rules continue to count JUCO seasons towards the traditional 5 seasons to play 4.1 point

I think technically Breylon Charles goes from being a Junior this season to now being a sophomore next season eligibility wise. Also O-lineman Julio Madero and D-lineman Demetrie Morgan who we just signed would be freshmen eligibility wise next season.1 point

It’s a little surprising that he was retained and promoted, but I’m sure there’s a reason. He’s supposed to be a good recruiter. He developed Jaylen Smith into an all conference player, he oversaw the emergence of Chavez Brown, too. Would he also serving as an in house mentor? With so much riding on this season for EM, I’m willing to give them a chance. We need some impact transfers, though.1 point
