If he wanted to be a WR he'd do it at one of his P4 WR offers.14 points

He was productive at the FCS level. I was hoping for McIvor for the same reasons I like this guy. Experienced guy who was successful at a D1 school and is on his final year so we don't have to worry about him leaving before bowl season. In his 2 seasons at Albany, he totaled 60 passing TDs to 17 interceptions and added 8 more TDs on the ground. I love this pickup.13 points

I have no idea how he'll do, but that commitment tweet makes a very good first impression on me. Here's hoping he can help lead the Mean Green to a great season next year!12 points

A third string quarterback from Miami that’s on his sixth year of college football. I’ll save the judgment until we see him in spring ball.12 points
-
He led the FCS is passing in 2023 and has similar traits to Chandler Morris. I'm sure Cam Ward swayed him to go play for Morris.11 points

Why sign a high school QB when you can get QBs that are already proven at a higher level?10 points
-
This isnt a bonus of the portal, but a necessity. Trading QBs every season isn't an upside, even if it is...uh...puffinbarger? Wtf...10 points

If a quarterback we recruit from high school puts up Chandler 1 or Chandler 2 numbers at UNT, he's also going to be one-and-done.9 points
-
Mods should also change the Bowl poster at the Top of Football page....the one with the PLAYERS no longer willing to play for us.9 points

Stops worrying about everyone else? At least we don't go to other school's fan boards and act like complete d-bags.8 points

I don’t see North Texas ever putting another freshman QB on the field. Except for an Alex Morris-Mason Fine situation, the transfer portal is likely going to be our source of “one-and-done” QBs. And as El Paso Eagle points out, why put a lot of energy in improving a QB that will very likely transfer given the opportunity ? We need a serviceable back up QB but I think the days of mentoring a youngster are over.7 points
-
I'm not a hypocrite. It's possible to hate the Portal but still use it since it is the only avenue available to maintain a moderately competitive football team. Do you expect us to play every season with a Freshman QB or maybe a 1* third year QB that couldn't go anywhere else? I don't like the DMV either, but guess what, I still use them to get a license.7 points

I think UNT has two very talented freshman on the roster currently in Drew and Cash. Bringing in a veteran who has experience shouldn’t be viewed as a bad thing. It allows the two freshman to continue to be developed by Morris and Brophy who continue to prove they are two of the best in the country. They are on a great run with Mahomes, Ward, Mateer, Rogers, Morris. Throwing the two young guys into the fire could do a lot more harm than good. I hope neither hit the portal and continue to grow and progress.7 points

The portal giveth and portal takes away, but it sucks regardless. That being said, I wouldn’t mind the portal if there were limits to how many times you can transfer.7 points

This! I understand the staff wants to continue recruiting high school players, but especially at quarterback, how much time and effort should we put into developing a player for another school?6 points
-
I mean isn’t the plan that Cassidy comes in from SH, installs a system that makes more sense for our personnel, brings a few key players from there as well, and at least makes the defense marginally better? Then you pair that with another prolific QB plugged into our system that can run our offense effectively - which is exactly what this kid looks to be - And profit? If that doesn’t work then Morris is probably looking for another gig at the end of the year.6 points

Who gives a $hit about degrees? Is he a thumper???5 points

I get your point of course . But the current system still sucks. I practically grew up on the SMU campus and played a lot at old Ownby, but I’m a die hard UNT fan. The problem for me now is that the school doesn’t matter anymore . It’s just about who spends the most money. And that’s ok, it’s the American way. I miss the days of Dandy Don playing in University Park and Mean Joe kicking butt in old Fouts…and I think the hot dogs and beer were better then too ! So yeah, I get your point.5 points

I remember saying this before I hit puberty, and much like North Texas over the years, I was not granted that wish. The tweet says he passed on multiple P4 offers, meaning he passed up money to play here. He was at Miami for one season and was backup to a Heisman finalist. I have no doubt he will put up numbers here, and if he doesn't so be it, Jimmerson Jr. will. We still need help, our offensive line benefitted from running backs who extended plays. Overall our YPC was very good but they weren't consistently opening holes, we need big time help there. So far it's a good start GMG5 points

Granted, it's against lesser competition, but I like this kid.4 points

He only has 1 more season of eligibility left so there is no reason to think that he won't make it through bowl season.4 points
-
He will easily. He is an early enrollee so he will have 8 months of Collegiate workouts and eating to get him where he needs to be.4 points

this is a sad fact that North Texas is faced with. it put pressure on the head coach to keep finding that next great QB to rise the program to get to a point were players want to stay. I really think with the Offence system we run is a plug and play. like always it comes down to defense. i get more excited about defense pick ups . Defense wins championships4 points

The way college football is now, it’s a good acquisition. I think we are fortunate to have secured someone with his experience in the current state college football is in. He could quite possibly give UNT a winning season and mentor an up and comer as well as provide some leadership. As far as the portal is concerned, it wouldn’t surprise me if players being paid are required to sign a contract at some point. Why not?4 points

Boo hoo hoo! Yea Chandler was the reason we went 6-6. Ugh I don’t think so. Most important position in football and EM can attract them. Now give me just and average D.3 points

A strong P2 coach complaining about the portal. That is exactly what we need to see change occur.3 points
-
Seems to have all the tools. Time will tell. But, looks like a great signing. To EM's credit, it does seem like he can attract some pretty good QB talent because of his system. Come to UNT, put up big numbers and transfer out for $$$. Hate the portal and would love to be able to keep our players. But, have to give credit where credit is due when it comes to recruiting QB's here.3 points

This is great pick up for EM and a great opportunity for this kid. EM is the qb whisperer! GMG3 points
